To unlock his cell, speak to him first, collect Broken Key A, B and C, have Malius repair them into the Door Key, then return to the prison and open the cell.
Is Jevil required to finish Chapter 1?
No. Jevil is an optional secret encounter, separate from the route needed to complete Chapter 1. You can return for him before leaving the chapter if you want the extra battle and its equipment reward.
How to unlock Jevil’s cell

Speak to Jevil beneath Card Castle
In Card Castle, use the elevator and select the floor labeled
??????. Descend to the prison and talk to Jevil through his cell. This conversation is required before Seam will discuss the strange prisoner and give you the first key piece. -
Take Broken Key A from Seam
Return to Seam’s shop in the Field and ask about the strange prisoner. Seam gives you Broken Key A and the clue, “Walk where the stars don’t shine.”

Find Broken Key B in the Forest
Enter the Forest’s Sheary room. A chest is visible toward the southeast, but the entrance is concealed: look for a dark path near the middle of the room’s southern edge and follow it to the chest. An encounter occurs along the route.

Solve the card puzzle for Broken Key C
In the Field, go to the card-suit puzzle northeast of the shortcut door near the entrance to the Great Board. Enter the suits in this order:
- Diamond
- Heart
- Club
- Spade
The sequence matches the shaped doors in Card Castle from bottom to top. Solving the puzzle opens the route to the chest containing Broken Key C.

Have Malius repair the pieces
Bring all three broken pieces to Malius, the smith in the Bake Sale area. He combines them into the Door Key.

Open Jevil’s cell
Return to the hidden prison floor below Card Castle and use the Door Key at Jevil’s cell. The opened passage leads to his arena and starts the optional boss encounter.
Where each key piece is found

Which reward do you get from Jevil?
Your battle approach determines the equipment reward reported for Chapter 1:

Neither approach is universally better; choose the method that fits the equipment you want and how you prefer to play the encounter.

- Seam will not give Broken Key A: return to Card Castle’s
??????elevator floor and speak to Jevil through the cell first. - You can see the Forest chest but cannot reach it: search the southern half of the Sheary room for the dark route near its middle, rather than walking directly toward the chest.
- The Field puzzle is not opening: enter Diamond, Heart, Club, Spade in that exact order.
- You have the pieces but no Door Key: take Broken Key A, B and C to Malius in the Bake Sale area.
