To uninstall a game installed directly on an Oculus Quest 2 (now branded Meta Quest 2), press the Meta button on the right controller, open App Library, point at the game, choose Options (three dots), select Remove, then confirm Uninstall or Uninstall and remove. Menu wording can vary with Quest software versions.
Quick steps to uninstall a Quest 2 game
- Wake the headset and put it on.
- Press the Meta button on the right Touch controller. Older software or controllers may show the Oculus button instead.
- Open App Library from the universal menu.
- Point the controller ray at the game tile without launching it. This is what “hover over” means.
- Open the tile’s Options or three-dot menu.
- Choose Remove, then select Uninstall or Uninstall and remove, if that option appears.
This sequence follows Meta community support guidance: Meta’s Quest uninstall instructions. Labels and placement may differ slightly between interface versions.
What uninstalling actually does
Uninstalling normally removes the game’s local installation from the headset, so its occupied files become available for other apps. Storage totals can take a moment to refresh; restart the headset and check again if the number does not change immediately. The recovered amount will not necessarily equal the game’s advertised download size because saves, caches and system-managed data vary.
Removing the installation is not normally the same as deleting a purchase. A game bought through your Meta account generally remains available to download again while you retain entitlement. Save behavior is title-specific: some games support cloud backup, while others keep data locally, so do not assume every save or setting is preserved or erased.

Use Hide for a tidier library when storage is not the issue. It is not a substitute for uninstalling.
Why the game still appears after uninstalling
Quest’s App Library can show owned or previously downloaded titles, not only apps currently installed. Meta support has described uninstalled apps as moving to a non-installed area rather than being erased from the account library: Meta’s library-removal discussion. An icon marked Not Installed, or showing a download button, is not evidence that the full game is still consuming headset storage.
Demos and full releases can also appear as separate entries. Check the status of each entry before removing anything else.

If there is no uninstall option
- Point at the tile instead of opening the game.
- Open Options and look for Remove; the uninstall choice may be inside that submenu.
- Check whether the title is already uninstalled and is only being listed in the library.
- Restart the headset, then recheck App Library and available storage.
- Install any pending Quest system update offered in Settings.
- If the control is still missing, contact Meta Quest support rather than factory-resetting the headset.

- Make sure you chose Uninstall, not only Hide.
- Cancel any visible download or queued installation.
- Restart the headset and confirm the title’s status in App Library.
- If shown, use Remove → Uninstall and remove.
- Check that you are not confusing a demo, companion app or separate edition with the original game.
- Contact Meta support if the download returns. A user report describes this behavior, but it is anecdotal rather than a confirmed system-wide defect: r/OculusQuest report.
Can you uninstall from the Meta Horizon mobile app?
The headset’s App Library is the dependable method documented for Quest 2. Meta Horizon phone-app menus can differ by version and account, so if you cannot find an uninstall control on your phone, perform the removal in the headset.

If it is a PC VR game
This guide covers games installed on the Quest 2 itself. A title launched through Link, Air Link or another PC connection may be installed on the computer, so remove it through its PC launcher or Windows app-management settings instead of searching the Quest library.

Uninstalling removes one app. A factory reset erases the headset broadly and is inappropriate for routine cleanup or a single malfunctioning game.

Does uninstalling delete a game I bought?
Normally no. It removes the local installation; your Meta account generally retains the purchase entitlement so you can download the game again.
Can I reinstall it later?
Usually yes, from your Meta Horizon Store library while the account remains entitled to the title.
Does uninstalling delete save data?
It depends on the game and its cloud-backup support. Do not assume all local saves are either preserved or erased.

Is hiding the same as uninstalling?
No. Hiding changes visibility; uninstalling removes the installed files and is the choice for freeing storage.
Can I permanently delete a game from my Meta library?
The standard Quest workflow removes the installation, while owned or previously downloaded titles may remain in a non-installed library area. Meta’s interface does not provide one guaranteed permanent-library-delete path for every title.
