What Aura Sync control actually does
The plugin exposes supported Corsair DIMMs to Armoury Crate as an Aura Sync device. You do not connect the memory to an ASUS 5V ARGB header. The RAM remains installed in its motherboard slots; software provides the control bridge.
- Armoury Crate owns the RAM: Aura Sync applies effects and synchronizes the modules with compatible ASUS lighting.
- iCUE owns the RAM: Corsair’s application controls its memory effects.
- Other Corsair devices: iCUE can continue controlling keyboards, fans, coolers, mice, hubs, and other supported products while Armoury Crate controls the memory.
This is a hand-off, not simultaneous control. When Armoury Crate is actively controlling the DIMMs, iCUE cannot also write their lighting.

Check compatibility before installing
Corsair currently names these compatible families in its integration guidance: Vengeance RGB, Dominator Platinum, and Titanium RGB (Corsair support). That is a compatibility baseline, not a guarantee for every kit in a family.
- Confirm that the DIMMs are an RGB model; non-RGB memory cannot expose lighting controls.
- Use an ASUS motherboard that supports Aura Sync.
- Update Armoury Crate, and update iCUE if it is installed.
- Expect menus and supported devices to vary by motherboard and software release.
Software you need
Armoury Crate-only setup
The minimal path requires current ASUS Armoury Crate, the CORSAIR RGB Memory Plugin for ASUS AURA SYNC from Corsair’s downloads page, and a Windows restart. ASUS’s current procedure is to update Armoury Crate, install the Corsair plugin, and restart (ASUS support).
Setup while keeping iCUE installed
In addition to the plugin and updated Armoury Crate, Corsair’s current hand-off procedure may require the iCUE ASUS plugin, iCUE SDK access, and approval for LightingService.exe. The exact controls can differ between iCUE releases.
Method 1: Use Armoury Crate without iCUE
- Install the latest Armoury Crate from ASUS.
- Install CORSAIR RGB Memory Plugin for ASUS AURA SYNC from Corsair.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Armoury Crate and choose Device.
- Select your ASUS motherboard, open Addressable Headers, and click Rescan.
- Open Aura Sync, then Aura Effects.
- Find the device named Memory, choose an effect, and apply it.
The expected checkpoint is a Memory entry under Aura Sync. If it is absent after the rescan, the integration has not completed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsMethod 2: Keep iCUE installed and hand RAM control to Aura Sync
- Update iCUE and Armoury Crate.
- Install or reinstall the Corsair RGB memory plugin.
- In iCUE, select the memory device and open its Settings.
- Set Device Control Service to On.
- If iCUE asks whether Armoury Crate may access the memory, approve the request.
- If shown in your iCUE build, open Settings → Plugins and install the ASUS Plugin.
- Open Settings → SDK and enable iCUE SDK; allow Lighting Service in SDK/Application Control when prompted.
- In Armoury Crate, go to Device → motherboard → Addressable Headers → Rescan.
- Open Aura Sync → Aura Effects, select Memory, and apply the effect.
These labels can move between releases. Corsair’s detailed instructions are the authority for the iCUE hand-off (Corsair).
What a successful setup looks like
- Armoury Crate lists the RAM as Memory.
- Aura Effects changes or synchronizes the DIMM lighting.
- Other Corsair products can remain managed by iCUE.
- The RAM’s iCUE lighting controls are unavailable while Armoury Crate owns it.
Seeing the module in a device list is not enough: detection and lighting control are separate stages.
Fix missing detection or unresponsive lighting
| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| No Memory device | Verify an RGB model and supported family, update Armoury Crate, reinstall the Corsair plugin, restart, then use Addressable Headers → Rescan. |
| iCUE requests access | Turn on Device Control Service and approve the Armoury Crate request. |
| RAM is visible but does not change | Resolve ownership: allow Armoury Crate’s LightingService.exe, close other RGB programs, and apply the effect to the Memory device. |
| Colors change randomly or revert | Stop competing RGB utilities and leave one application as the RAM controller. |
| RAM stopped appearing after removing iCUE | Reinstall the Corsair memory plugin even if Windows still lists it, restart, and rescan. Corsair specifically notes this post-uninstall step. |
| Normal restart did not refresh detection | Perform a full Windows shutdown, power the PC back on, and rescan. |
If the DIMMs still do not appear, return control to iCUE and contact Corsair support. Older kits, unusual hybrid modules, firmware issues, or unsupported models may not work through third-party lighting control.

| Choose Armoury Crate/Aura Sync when… | Choose iCUE when… |
|---|---|
| Your motherboard and most RGB hardware are ASUS; you want one ASUS-centered profile; or you want the RAM synchronized with motherboard lighting. | Most devices are Corsair; you want Corsair-specific memory effects; you want fewer ASUS services; or Armoury Crate cannot detect your kit reliably. |
Installing Armoury Crate only for RAM lighting adds ASUS software and background services. For a Corsair-heavy build, staying entirely in iCUE can be simpler.
Return control to iCUE
To hand the DIMMs back, block LightingService.exe in iCUE’s SDK/Application Control area, then restart the relevant applications. The exact control may be labelled differently in newer iCUE builds. Once Armoury Crate no longer owns the memory, iCUE can control it again (Corsair’s recovery guidance).
Alternatives to the official integration
OpenRGB and Aurora can offer cross-vendor or advanced profiles, but they are not drop-in replacements for the Corsair/ASUS method. Aurora’s ASUS documentation warns about conflicts when Aura and iCUE attempt to control Corsair RAM and notes that support varies by device (Aurora documentation). Use one active controller for the memory regardless of the software you choose.
Frequently asked questions
Can Corsair Vengeance RGB work with Aura Sync?
Corsair lists Vengeance RGB among the compatible families, subject to exact model, firmware, motherboard, and software support.
Do I need iCUE installed?
No. Armoury Crate plus the Corsair RGB Memory Plugin is the minimal route. iCUE is needed only if you want to keep using it for the RAM or other Corsair hardware.
Recommended Free Tools
Can iCUE control my keyboard and fans while Aura controls RAM?
Yes. The ownership restriction applies to the memory modules; iCUE can continue managing other supported Corsair devices.
Can both applications control the RAM together?
No. Assign the DIMMs to one controller to avoid conflicting effects, resets, or default colors.
Is the old standalone Aura Sync utility the recommended path?
No. ASUS’s current support procedure uses Armoury Crate. Legacy Aura utilities may have different menus and compatibility behavior.
