1. ScattergoriesOnline.net: best all-around private game
ScattergoriesOnline.net is the strongest option when you want a configurable game that still handles answer review and scoring. It supports play with friends or robot opponents and states that 40 languages are available.
How to start
- Open New Game.
- Select categories and choose Create New Game.
- Set Game letters, Number of players, Number of rounds, Ending a round, and Max time to confirm words.
- Choose whether Who can join means anyone or invitees using a link.
- Share the displayed game link with the other players.
Useful advanced controls
- Game Master Mode lets a registered game master stop rounds and validate answers.
- Scheduled game start, Require Login and Allow custom nickname provide extra control; custom nicknames are limited to private games.
- Use AiChecker explains why an answer may fit, but players still decide how to vote.
Rounds can end when the first player presses STOP or automatically when the timer expires. During review, a word is rejected when a majority marks it invalid. Scoring is straightforward: blank answers and duplicates score 0, while unique answers score 1. Robots draw from previously submitted words that players judged valid, so careful voting improves future robot play. If login fails, the rules page advises disabling ad-blocking software.
2. Really Boring Website: best for live rooms
The Really Boring Website lobby is the clearest choice when everyone should join the same online room instead of sharing one screen. The lobby offers Join or Create a Room, a Room Name field, an Enter control and a public-room section.

Room limits and access
The lobby displays a maximum of 24 players per room. It also shows current player and room counts, but those numbers are live and change over time. The rendered page can show session controls such as Logout and a welcome state, so do not assume the current experience is permanently account-free.
Swellgarfo links to this multiplayer implementation through Play This Game Online. The generator and the room system are separate experiences: use the lobby for synchronized online play, not the generator page.

3. Swellgarfo: best shared-screen generator
Swellgarfo’s Scattergories generator supplies the letter, timer and categories while players write answers elsewhere and score them themselves. It is not an automated multiplayer lobby and does not validate answers or calculate scores.
Customize a round
- Use Re-roll under Letter for another starting letter.
- Use Change under Time to adjust the timer, then select Update.
- Open Categories and use Add A Category; enter text in Enter a new category… and press the adjacent +.
- Use Make Child-Friendly, Remove or Remove All to tailor the list.
- The site chooses a random number of categories from the list; adjust that number with the – and + controls.
Save List creates a hash-based list URL in the form swellgarfo.com/scattergories/#…, which you can send to other players. If every category is removed, the page enters No Categories mode; add a category before restarting.

Its Android listing identifies the app as StopotS – The Categories Game by Gartic, with ads, Android and Windows availability, and more than 10 million downloads. Google Play lists an update dated July 3, 2026. The listing is at Google Play.

- At the start of a round, a random letter appears; fill every category before time expires.
Important reliability caveats
Recent Google Play reviews report crashes, inaccurate scores, STOP errors that say every field must be filled, long waits for random opponents and removal from public rooms. The developer has attributed at least one malfunction to temporary internet fluctuations and says room-access problems were fixed in update notes. The reviews also do not support promising dependable solo play: matchmaking may involve a wait, and one review specifically says the game cannot be played single-player.

Scattergory Categories is a browser generator, not a private multiplayer service. It works well when one person shares the screen and everyone records and judges answers independently.

Its current branding is Scattergory Categories at scattergory.com, not “Scattergories.com.”

6. Netflix Puzzled: Scattergories Daily for solo play
Netflix’s Scattergories Daily, announced May 13, 2026, is a daily puzzle in the Netflix Puzzled app and Tudum. It is not the classic room-based multiplayer format.
How the daily puzzle works
- Each day presents one curated theme.
- Every answer must begin with the day’s letter.
- You have 120 seconds.
- Scattergories Head judges submissions and can respond with customized, humorous comments.
- There is no fixed number of attempts per category.
Netflix says players receive a different puzzle every day for the first two weeks; solving one unlocks another living-room item. Categories refresh daily, with listed later themes including vegetables, cheese, types of fish, restaurants and European cities. The living-room collection is described as a permanent addition after launch.
