Spoiler warning: This guide reveals the late-game Owl decision, every ending name, required items and major route outcomes.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has four endings: Shura, Immortal Severance, Purification and Return (Dragon’s Homecoming). The choice at Owl permanently determines whether you can pursue only Shura or keep the other three routes open.

The Owl decision determines your ending group

Near the end of the game, Owl gives Wolf a direct order. This is the permanent branch point.

Obey Owl

Choosing to obey Owl commits the playthrough to Shura. This route ends earlier than the Kuro-aligned routes and contains its own route-specific content. You will no longer be able to complete the optional preparations for Purification or Return during that playthrough.

  • CARVE your own clever path to vengeance in an all-new adventure from developer fromsoftware
  • Explore late 1500S sengoku Japan, a brutal period of constant life and Death conflict, as you come face to face with larger than life foes in a dark and twisted world
  • Take revenge. Restore your honor. Kill ingeniously

Side with Kuro

Rejecting Owl’s order keeps Immortal Severance, Purification and Return (Dragon’s Homecoming) available. All three continue through the shared late-game progression; optional quest work determines which final outcome you can select.

What each ending requires

Ending Main trigger Optional preparation Final item Route shape and alignment
Shura Obey Owl None of the Purification or Return quest chains Not applicable Shorter, Owl-aligned branch with unique route content
Immortal Severance Side with Kuro Standard progression Divine Dragon’s Tears Baseline Kuro-aligned conclusion
Purification Side with Kuro Complete the Emma/Hirata-related optional steps before the late-game lockout Divine Dragon’s Tears plus the Aromatic Flower Alternate Kuro-aligned conclusion requiring deliberate optional investigation
Return (Dragon’s Homecoming) Side with Kuro Complete the Divine Child and related optional steps before the late-game lockout Divine Dragon’s Tears plus Frozen Tears Alternate Kuro-aligned conclusion associated with the Return route

Purification route checklist

Purification is the ending that depends on the Emma/Hirata-related optional investigation. Complete this preparation before advancing through the late-game progression that locks optional work.

  1. At Owl’s decision, reject Owl and remain on Kuro’s side.
  2. Before the late-game lockout, finish the Emma/Hirata-related optional steps required for the Purification route.
  3. Secure the Aromatic Flower produced by that preparation.
  4. Continue through the shared late-game sequence and obtain Divine Dragon’s Tears.
  5. At the final selection, provide Divine Dragon’s Tears together with the Aromatic Flower.

Missable-content warning: If you advance past the relevant late-game lockout before completing the Emma/Hirata preparation, the Purification route may no longer be available in that playthrough.

Return (Dragon’s Homecoming) route checklist

Return uses the Divine Child’s quest line and its related optional steps. As with Purification, do this work before the late-game lockout.

  3. Obtain Frozen Tears from that preparation.
  4. Continue through the shared late-game sequence and obtain Divine Dragon’s Tears.
  5. At the final selection, provide Divine Dragon’s Tears together with Frozen Tears.

Missable-content warning: Passing the lockout before finishing the Divine Child preparation can prevent Return from being selected in that playthrough.

How to choose among the four endings

Choose Shura for the shorter, Owl-aligned branch

Obey Owl if you specifically want Shura’s earlier route and its exclusive route content. This choice closes the three Kuro-aligned endings for the current playthrough.

Can you see all four endings in one playthrough?

The four routes are separated by Owl’s decision and, for the three Kuro-aligned endings, by the optional preparations and final selection. To attempt all four on one playthrough, preserve a save before the final selection if your platform and account setup support reliable save management. Confirm the platform-specific behavior first; do not assume that restoring a backup works identically on every system.

That backup cannot turn a Shura commitment into a Kuro route: the Owl decision must still have been made in Kuro’s favor, and the Purification or Return preparations must have been completed before their lockout points.
