The GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU has 8GB of GDDR7 video memory, according to NVIDIA. A laptop listing that shows 16GB nearby is usually referring to system RAM—the memory used by the CPU and shared by the rest of the computer—not GPU VRAM.
How much VRAM does the RTX 5050 Laptop GPU have?
NVIDIA says RTX 5050 laptops include “8GB of GDDR7 video memory (VRAM), running at 24 Gbps.” The statement appeared in NVIDIA’s GeForce News announcement on June 24, 2025. Official laptop product listings also identify the GPU as having 8GB of GDDR7.
For example, MSI’s Cyborg 15 B2RWEKG-292US lists “RTX 5050 Laptop GPU 8G GDDR7” separately from “16GB (8Gx2) DDR5 5600MHz.” The two figures describe different components, not two available VRAM options.
Why do some RTX 5050 laptop listings say 16GB?
Laptop specifications often display system memory, graphics memory and storage close together. HP Victus configurations pair an RTX 5050 (8GB) with 16GB of system RAM, while storage may be listed separately as 512GB or 1TB. Acer Nitro listings likewise show 8GB GDDR7 graphics memory alongside varying RAM and SSD configurations.

- Massive 16GB DDR4 memory and fast 512GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage for accelerated load times and seamless performance.
- 1 - USB Type-C Port USB 3.2 Gen 2 (up to 10 Gbps) DisplayPort over USB Type-C, Thunderbolt 4 & USB Charging (Up to 65W)
- GPU memory or VRAM: 8GB GDDR7 on the RTX 5050 Laptop GPU.
- System RAM: Memory installed for the laptop’s processor and operating system; listings commonly show 16GB.
- Storage: SSD capacity, such as 512GB or 1TB, where specified.
Check the label attached to the number. “16GB DDR5,” “system memory” or “RAM” means system memory; “8GB GDDR7” or “video memory” means GPU memory. A retailer title that only says “16GB” does not establish that the RTX 5050 has 16GB of VRAM.
Is the desktop RTX 5050 different?
Yes. NVIDIA’s 2025 specifications give the desktop GeForce RTX 5050 8GB of GDDR6, while the laptop GPU has 8GB of GDDR7. The capacity is the same, but the memory type differs; do not use a desktop RTX 5050 specification to interpret a laptop listing.

What matters when comparing RTX 5050 gaming laptops?
With VRAM capacity established at 8GB GDDR7, compare the rest of the laptop configuration rather than treating a 16GB system-RAM figure as a GPU upgrade. Laptop GPU power limits and Dynamic Boost options vary by model and can affect performance. For instance, ASUS lists a 55W configuration with Dynamic Boost options for the TUF Gaming A16 (2025).

How to verify a listing before buying
- Find the exact model or SKU. A product family name can cover multiple configurations.
- Read the GPU memory line. Look for RTX 5050 Laptop GPU with 8GB GDDR7, not just a large number in the title.
- Identify what the other capacities refer to. Confirm whether each figure is system RAM or SSD storage.
- Check GPU power and the rest of the configuration. Compare the power profile, CPU, display, RAM, storage and upgrade options on the model-specific manufacturer page.
- Confirm region and warranty. Retailer pages and configurations can differ by market, so match the listing to the model being sold in your region.
