If Minecraft Dungeons II crashes on PC, start by checking that your system meets Minecraft’s published requirements, then update Windows, your graphics driver and the game. Work through the eight fixes below in order; use the Launcher and Gaming Services steps if the Xbox app or Launcher fails before the game opens. The -dx11 option is only a community-reported workaround, not an official or guaranteed fix.
Before you start: check the PC requirements
Minecraft Dungeons II launched on September 29, 2026. Minecraft’s 2026 requirements are the baseline to compare against—not a guarantee that every system meeting them will run without crashes.

Record your Windows version, installed RAM, graphics-card model and VRAM, and DirectX support. If your PC falls below a minimum, driver changes or launch options cannot make unsupported hardware meet that requirement.
Try these 8 fixes in order
1. Install Windows and graphics-driver updates
Run Windows Update and install available updates. Then check for a current graphics driver from the manufacturer of your GPU—NVIDIA, AMD or Intel. Restart Windows after installing. Minecraft’s graphics troubleshooting guidance puts operating-system and graphics-driver updates near the start of crash diagnosis.

2. Update Minecraft Dungeons II
Check the store or launcher where you installed the game—Steam, the Xbox app, Microsoft Store, or another relevant platform—and install any pending game update. Note the installed build before and after updating so you can tell whether the game actually changed. Minecraft’s general support guidance recommends using the latest release.
3. Sign out, close the apps and restart
- Sign out of Minecraft Launcher, the Xbox app and Microsoft Store if you use them.
- Close those apps, then restart Windows.
- Open the store or launcher again and sign in with the account that owns the game or has the relevant Game Pass access.
- Launch the game from that platform.
Minecraft Help says Minecraft Dungeons II requires a Microsoft account for login and license verification. This sign-in check matters even if you bought the game through another storefront.

4. Check free storage and close other programs
Make sure the drive used for the game has free space, then close programs you do not need before launching. Browsers, recording software, overlays, RGB utilities and other high-memory apps are reasonable candidates to close while troubleshooting; their presence alone does not prove they caused a Dungeons II crash. Minecraft’s general crash guidance recommends checking storage and closing other programs.
5. Repair Gaming Services or Minecraft Launcher
Use this branch when the Xbox app or Minecraft Launcher stops, errors or closes before the game window appears. Run Minecraft’s Gaming Services Repair Tool first. If the problem remains, use Windows’ Repair option for the Launcher. If that still does not help, reinstall the Launcher and reset the Microsoft Store cache, following the order in Minecraft Help’s Windows Launcher troubleshooting instructions.

6. Verify or repair the game files
Damaged or incomplete installation files are one possible reason to check the installation. Use the file-repair control for the platform where you installed the game:
- Steam: open the game’s properties and use Steam’s file-verification control.
- Xbox app: open Manage > Files > Verify and Repair.
An Xbox app user reported that Verify and Repair resolved a damaged-settings launch error, but that is an anecdote, not an official promise that this will fix Dungeons II crashes. Back up local saves before reinstalling or deleting game-related files.

7. Test Steam’s DirectX 11 launch option only if needed
A Steam player reported that adding -dx11 to the game’s launch options helped. This is an unconfirmed community workaround, not a documented universal fix. If you test it, add the option in the game’s Steam launch options and try launching again. Remove -dx11 if it has no effect, changes the crash, or causes another error.
8. Reinstall as a last resort
If the game still crashes after the earlier checks, uninstall and reinstall it from the platform store. Treat this as a later troubleshooting step, as Minecraft’s general support guidance does. Before removing the installation or any local files, back up local saves where applicable.

If the crash happens at a particular point
The game never opens
Start with the account check, restart, Launcher or Gaming Services repair, and file verification. These steps target sign-in, store or launcher trouble as well as installation problems.
The game crashes after the opening video
Check the Windows and graphics-driver updates, game update, system requirements and competing programs first. If you use Steam, you can then test -dx11 as a reversible, unconfirmed workaround.
Choosing between Steam and the Xbox app
There is no measured evidence here that either storefront is inherently more stable. Choose troubleshooting steps based on where the game is installed and which account provides access.
