You can turn off or loosen individual Epic Games restrictions if you know the account’s six-digit Parental Controls PIN. You cannot delete the PIN once it has been set. If a feature is blocked because the account is a Cabined Account, or because of console or device family settings, changing Epic’s controls alone may not unlock it.
Turn off or change Epic’s restrictions
Use the Epic Account Portal to adjust account-level settings. Make sure you sign in to the Epic account actually linked to the game or console profile.

- Sign in at Epic’s Parental Controls page.
- Select Parental Controls in the left-hand menu.
- Enter the six-digit PIN.
- Turn off or relax each restriction you want to change, then save or confirm if prompted.
Epic’s instructions for changing Parental Controls treat settings individually. Do not assume there is a single switch that disables everything. Some controls use permission levels rather than on/off choices. For Fortnite-only access, the in-game route is player icon in the upper-right corner, menu icon, then Parental Controls; the account portal is the clearer route for account-wide changes. See Epic’s Fortnite setup instructions.
Which settings can you change?
The Parental Controls panel can include restrictions for Store content ratings, acquiring or downloading mature-rated games, Fortnite voice and text chat, purchases through Epic’s payment system, paid random items where available, and whether a PIN is required for Epic friend requests. The exact options depend on the account, age, region, game, and feature availability. Epic’s Parental Controls overview describes the available categories.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
| Setting area | What to review | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Store content | Content-age rating and access to mature-rated games or content | Available choices may be limited by the account’s age. |
| Chat and social features | Fortnite voice chat, text chat, and PIN requirements for adding or accepting Epic friend requests | Communication choices may be age-dependent; some accounts will not see every permission level. |
| Purchases | PIN approval for purchases processed through Epic’s payment system | This does not govern purchases processed by a console or another platform’s store. |
| Paid random items | Whether to allow purchases of paid random items | The setting’s availability varies by region. |
| Other account options | Social, purchase, and account controls shown in the panel | Review the options actually displayed for this account rather than expecting every account to have identical controls. |
Changing a payment restriction can permit purchases through Epic without that PIN approval. Epic’s safety page also says that an account whose player indicates they are under 13 has a $100 daily spending limit for purchases through Epic payment, subject to stated exceptions; this is not a universal limit on purchases made through platform stores. The same page explains that enabling voice chat can involve Epic’s voice-reporting behavior.
Can you remove the Epic Parental Controls PIN?
No. Epic says the PIN cannot be removed once set, and Epic Support cannot remove it for you. The PIN itself does not block features; it protects changes to the restrictions. You can leave it in place and turn off or adjust the settings you no longer want. Epic explains this in its articles on deleting Parental Controls completely and removing or disabling the PIN.

Forgot the PIN?
Use Epic’s official PIN-reset guidance and follow the verification options shown for your account. Epic may change the reset interface, so use the current instructions rather than guessing repeatedly or paying a third-party account-recovery service.
Still blocked? Check whether this is a Cabined Account
A Cabined Account is subject to age and parental-consent requirements; it is not just an Epic Parental Controls setting. Depending on the account, features such as voice or free text chat, real-money purchases, downloading non-Epic games, external account linking, custom display names, and some game-specific social features may be unavailable until a parent or guardian completes consent and account setup, or the player reaches the applicable age threshold. Consent does not necessarily remove every age-based limit.

Epic generally emails a consent link to the parent or guardian, who confirms their relationship and completes adult verification where required. If the email is missing, sign in to the account portal and use Request Parental Permission to resend the request. See Epic’s parental consent information and its Rocket League Cabined Account guidance. Some age-based chat options remain restricted even after consent.

Epic’s settings do not replace parental controls set on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Windows, iOS, Google Play, Steam, or another platform. Those controls can separately block store purchases, multiplayer, communication, apps, or screen time. Epic also notes that disabling voice chat inside an Epic game does not necessarily control voice chat through a console’s own communication system. For details, see Epic’s guide to platform Parental Controls.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Troubleshoot a restriction that remains
- Confirm the account: Check that the browser is signed in to the same Epic account linked to the game or console profile. If needed, compare the account identity or Account ID using Epic’s Epic Games Store Parental Controls setup guide.
- Check the right setting: Chat, purchases, content ratings, and friend requests are separate controls, so changing one may not affect another.
- Look for Cabined Account messaging: A request for parental permission points to consent or age-based limits, not merely the ordinary PIN-protected settings.
- Identify who processes the purchase: Epic’s payment setting applies to Epic’s payment system; a console or other storefront may enforce its own purchase approval.
- Check the platform account: If Epic’s restriction is off but access is still blocked, review the console, device, or store family settings.
