Xbox has brought more games to rival consoles, but the claim that Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 would follow was a report based on an insider prediction—not a Microsoft announcement. Since then, Xbox has confirmed a PlayStation 5 release for a different Halo game, Halo: Campaign Evolved. The Flight Simulator ports and the original Halo MCC prediction remain unconfirmed by the official materials cited here.
What did Xbox actually announce?
On February 21, 2024, Xbox announced four “fan-favorite” games for competing platforms. The move was presented as a way to bring games to more players and grow communities—not as a promise that every Xbox-owned franchise would become multiplatform. Xbox’s announcement specified these platforms:
| Game | Confirmed platforms outside Xbox | Multiplayer details |
|---|---|---|
| Pentiment | PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch | Not stated in the announcement. |
| Hi-Fi Rush | PlayStation 5 | Not stated in the announcement. |
| Grounded | PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch | Cross-play across Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, and PC. |
| Sea of Thieves | PlayStation 5 | Cross-play across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. |
These releases are evidence of selective expansion. They do not establish a standard that every sequel, new release, or series entry will reach every console.
Where did the Halo and Flight Simulator rumor come from?
A report by Thurrott, citing leaker Nate the Hate, said Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 might come to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo’s next console. That was leaker-based reporting, not an official Xbox confirmation. A track record or a broader multiplatform trend can make a rumor worth watching, but neither turns it into a release plan.

Halo: a PS5 game is confirmed, but it is not MCC
Xbox later announced Halo: Campaign Evolved for PlayStation 5. The distinction matters: the game is an Unreal Engine 5 remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, not a PlayStation version of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Xbox’s official overview lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, PS5, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Game Pass. It describes the original campaign with updated visuals, new content, and expanded online co-op. The cited platform list does not include Nintendo Switch 2.
So the status is specific: a Halo remake on PS5 is official; the original MCC port prediction is not confirmed by that announcement. Nor does the PS5 announcement establish a Nintendo release or availability for the entire Halo catalog.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024: official platforms and open questions
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launched on November 19, 2024. Xbox’s preview and launch announcement identify Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, cloud, and Game Pass. The Standard Edition includes 70 aircraft and 150 upgraded airports; higher editions add aircraft and airports. Those official materials do not confirm PS5 or Nintendo Switch 2 versions. A future port is possible, but it should not be treated as announced unless Xbox or the developer names the platform.
Which other Xbox-owned games are already multiplatform?
Xbox’s 2024 statement cited Minecraft, Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Diablo as franchises already available across multiple platforms. The four announced 2024 releases, later Age of Empires and Age of Mythology titles reaching PS5, and Halo: Campaign Evolved show the range of Xbox-owned or published games appearing beyond Xbox. Xbox’s 2025 year-end retrospective documents the strategy’s continued expansion, including Age titles on PS5.

That record is not a confirmed port list for future releases. There is no basis in these announcements to say that Gears of War, Forza, every Halo entry, or all Bethesda games are coming to PlayStation or Nintendo. Treat those as possibilities only when a title-specific announcement or reliable report supports them. A franchise’s ownership does not mean each entry has the same platform plan; older games, remakes, spin-offs, and new sequels can be handled differently.
Why put Xbox games on rival consoles?
Xbox explicitly linked the 2024 move to reaching more players and bringing multiplayer communities together. Beyond that stated rationale, the commercial logic is that releases on additional platforms can widen the audience for game sales and downloadable content, extend the life of multiplayer games, and help recoup large development and acquisition costs. Those are reasonable explanations of the strategy, not a quoted financial breakdown from Microsoft.

Multiplatform releases can also bring players into Xbox accounts, cross-play, cloud gaming, and Game Pass, while Xbox continues to position its hardware and services as parts of the same ecosystem. A rival-console release and an Xbox ecosystem strategy are not mutually exclusive.

No official statement cited here says that every Xbox game will launch on PlayStation and Nintendo. Xbox described the 2024 releases as a limited set of four and continued to emphasize Xbox hardware, PC, cloud gaming, Game Pass, and first-party access. The evidence supports selective platform expansion, not the end of all Xbox-specific releases or advantages. Activision Blizzard properties also have a different history from Xbox Game Studios titles, so their existing availability should not be used to predict every other franchise’s future.

How to judge the next port rumor
Use evidence in descending order of strength:
- Official announcement: Xbox, Bethesda, Activision, or the game’s developer names the platform.
- Official store listing or platform-naming trailer: A PlayStation Store or Nintendo eShop page, or an official trailer that identifies the console, is concrete evidence.
- Multiple reputable reports: Independent reporting that agrees on the game and platform is stronger than a single-source claim, but is still not the same as an announcement.
- Single insider report or social-media speculation: Treat as a rumor, not a release date or buying guarantee.
A database entry, a temporary retailer listing, general talk about reaching more players, or a port of another game from the same publisher is not confirmation. Also check the exact system named: a PS5 release does not imply PS4 or Switch 2 support, and a Nintendo Switch version does not establish a Switch 2 version or identical performance. Cross-play, cross-save, online-subscription requirements, account requirements, and regional availability can differ by game.
Which platform makes sense for you?
Choose Xbox or PC for the Xbox ecosystem
Xbox hardware and Windows PC are the most direct fit if you want access to Xbox’s first-party releases, Game Pass, backward-compatibility features, or cloud options. Game Pass is a changing catalog, and day-one availability applies to selected games and eligible plans; the U.S. Game Pass Ultimate page viewed August 18, 2026 listed $22.99 per month and more than 500 games, with Call of Duty titles excluded from that specific day-one claim. See the official U.S. Ultimate page for current terms. The U.S. PC Game Pass page listed $13.99 per month on the same date and requires Windows 10/11 version 22H2 or higher; check the PC plan page for current catalog and requirements.
Choose PS5 for its own catalog plus confirmed Xbox releases
PS5 owners can play confirmed Xbox-published releases such as Sea of Thieves and the announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, alongside PlayStation games. A PS5 does not provide Game Pass’s Xbox and PC catalog or guarantee access to every Xbox release.
Choose Nintendo for Nintendo games and specific ports
Nintendo hardware is a fit for its own catalog and for confirmed ports such as Pentiment and Grounded. Do not assume that a game on PS5 will also arrive on Switch or Switch 2, or that a version will have equivalent performance, content, or cross-play.
Recommended Free Tools
If a rumored port is the only reason you are considering buying hardware, wait for that game’s official platform listing. For a PS5 or Nintendo owner, buying a confirmed port on the console already owned may be simpler than purchasing an Xbox; for access to the broader Xbox ecosystem, the rumor alone is not a substitute for a confirmed release.
