Acer Nitro XV282K KVbmiipruzx Review: 4K/120Hz for Consoles, With HDMI Caveats

A capable 4K/144Hz IPS monitor for PC and console gaming, the Acer Nitro XV282K supports 4K/120Hz consoles but has limited HDMI bandwidth and lackluster HDR.

The Acer Nitro XV282K KVbmiipruzx is a 28-inch 4K IPS gaming monitor with a 144Hz maximum refresh rate and HDMI 2.1 inputs that support 4K/120Hz console play. It remains a capable choice for PC and console gaming if the price is right, but its reported 24Gbps HDMI bandwidth, modest IPS contrast and weak HDR make it a poor buy at a premium.

What the Acer Nitro XV282K is

The XV282K KVbmiipruzx is part of Acer’s Nitro XV2 line. It pairs a 3840×2160 IPS-type LCD with a 144Hz maximum refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium and DisplayHDR 400. Acer lists 4K/120Hz support for PS5 and Xbox Series X; independent coverage identifies an Innolux M280DCA-E7B AAS IPS-type panel with a typical 1000:1 contrast ratio. Acer’s US product page gives the headline specifications, while PC Monitors’ review identifies the panel.

That combination makes the monitor relevant to PC gamers who want high-refresh 4K, console players targeting 120Hz, and people who also need a sharp general-purpose screen. Its age means the buying decision should depend on the actual sale price, condition and warranty—not its original positioning. Acer’s product page does not establish a dependable current price or stock status.

HDMI 2.1: 4K/120Hz works, but bandwidth matters

The HDMI 2.1 label does not mean these inputs provide the full 48Gbps bandwidth sometimes associated with HDMI 2.1. DisplayNinja and RTINGS’ comparison identify the Acer’s HDMI bandwidth as 24Gbps. That is enough for the monitor’s advertised 4K/120Hz console use, but it changes the options for PC users seeking the maximum refresh rate. DisplayNinja’s review discusses the bandwidth and signal modes; RTINGS’ comparison also identifies the 24Gbps implementation.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: The monitor accepts a 4K/120Hz signal. That does not mean every game renders at 120 frames per second; the available frame rate depends on the console, game and selected mode.
  • PC over DisplayPort: DisplayPort 1.4 with Display Stream Compression (DSC) is the safer route to 4K/144Hz, assuming the graphics card supports the required output.
  • PC over HDMI: Acer advertises 4K/144Hz, but independent coverage reports that practical HDMI limits can be 120Hz. The result depends on the source, signal format and DSC support. Tom’s Hardware reached 144Hz over DisplayPort with DSC and reported a 120Hz practical HDMI limit in its test setup. Tom’s Hardware’s review explains its connection testing.

Chroma subsampling is another possible trade-off at high-bandwidth modes. DisplayNinja notes that PS5 may use 4:2:0 chroma at 4K/120Hz with this monitor. Subsampling reduces color detail around fine text and colored edges compared with a full-chroma signal; it may be less noticeable in ordinary gameplay than on a desktop. The exact signal depends on the console and display negotiation.

Gaming performance and VRR

Independent reviews describe the XV282K’s motion response as very quick and its input lag as very low, making it well suited to responsive play. Acer’s “1ms” response-time figure is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee that every pixel transition completes in 1ms at every refresh rate or overdrive setting. Response time describes pixel transitions; refresh rate is how often the display can update; input lag is delay before an input appears on screen.

FreeSync Premium provides variable refresh rate (VRR) support to help reduce tearing and stutter when frame rates fluctuate. PC Monitors reported Nvidia G-SYNC Compatible behavior over DisplayPort and HDMI in testing; that is tested compatibility, not a claim that the display contains native G-SYNC hardware. DisplayNinja also reports some overshoot at low frame rates with VRR enabled, which can appear as inverse ghosting or bright/dark trails. Tom’s Hardware found Adaptive-Sync working with HDR up to 144Hz in its test setup.

Enable VRR

  1. For DisplayPort, open the monitor’s on-screen display (OSD), go to Gaming, and set AMD FreeSync Premium to On.
  2. For HDMI, open the OSD, go to System, and set HDMI 2.1 to On.
  3. Enable VRR in the console’s video settings or in the PC’s graphics control panel as appropriate. PC Monitors reports that the monitor uses HDMI 2.1’s integrated VRR over HDMI and Adaptive-Sync/FreeSync Premium over DisplayPort.

4K image quality for games and work

At 28 inches, 3840×2160 produces a dense, sharp image that suits detailed games and crisp text. The trade-off is GPU load: rendering demanding games at 4K and high refresh rates takes substantially more graphics power than playing at 1440p. At 100% interface scaling, desktop controls and text may also feel small, so many users will prefer scaling.

The IPS panel’s broad viewing angles are useful when sharing the screen or using it for general work. Its matte anti-glare finish helps in brighter rooms, though it does not eliminate reflections. Color and brightness are suitable for everyday gaming and office use, but the roughly 1000:1 typical contrast is a familiar IPS limitation: blacks can look gray, especially in a dark room. IPS glow, backlight bleed and uniformity can vary between individual units; one review sample cannot guarantee the condition of another.

HDR is a compatibility feature, not a reason to buy

Acer lists DisplayHDR 400 certification and 400-nit peak brightness. Tom’s Hardware measured roughly 300 nits in SDR and slightly above 400 nits in HDR on its sample; these are test results, not guaranteed readings for every unit. RTINGS’ review found the low contrast limiting for HDR and the edge-lit local dimming poor enough to worsen image quality. DisplayNinja likewise considers its HDR weak.

Expect HDR compatibility and some extra peak brightness, not deep blacks, precise highlight control or OLED- and mini-LED-class contrast. If HDR looks worse with local dimming enabled, compare the picture with that feature off rather than assuming it always improves the image.

Stand, ports and extra features

The stand is a strong practical feature. DisplayNinja lists up to 130mm of height adjustment, 90-degree pivot, ±180-degree swivel and tilt from approximately −5° to 35°. The monitor supports a 100×100mm VESA mount. RTINGS also rates its ergonomics highly. A wide swivel range helps with positioning, but does not change the panel’s contrast or viewing characteristics.

DisplayNinja reports two HDMI 2.1 ports, DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 65W Power Delivery, a four-port USB 3.0 hub, headphone output, 2W speakers and a KVM switch. Acer’s current US product listing exposes fewer connection details, so check the exact unit’s manual, rear panel and regional documentation before relying on USB-C charging, KVM or the full accessory feature list.

Set up a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S

  1. Connect the console directly to one of the monitor’s HDMI inputs with a suitable HDMI cable.
  2. In the monitor OSD, go to System and confirm HDMI 2.1 is set to On.
  3. In the console’s video settings, choose a 4K output and enable 120Hz and VRR where available. The console and game must support the selected modes.
  4. If the console offers only 60Hz, check the selected input and cable, the monitor’s HDMI 2.1 setting, and the console’s resolution and refresh settings. Try another suitable cable if needed.

Acer advises owners of HDMI 2.1 monitors to check its support site for applicable firmware. Its console guidance is at Acer’s HDMI 2.1 support article. Regional model suffixes, firmware, warranty and included accessories can differ, so confirm them for the unit being purchased.

Who should buy it—and who should pass

  • PS5 or Xbox Series X owner: A sensible fit if 4K/120Hz is the priority and you are not buying it for standout HDR.
  • PC gamer: A good match for high-refresh 4K if your GPU can drive it. Prefer DisplayPort for 4K/144Hz rather than assuming HDMI will deliver that mode.
  • Laptop user: Potentially useful if the exact unit’s USB-C input and 65W charging meet your needs; verify those details before purchase.
  • Office user: Sharp text, broad viewing angles and an adjustable stand are attractive, but the high refresh rate may be unnecessary if you do not also game.
  • HDR enthusiast or dark-room viewer: Look elsewhere if strong local dimming, high contrast or deep blacks are priorities.
  • Used or refurbished buyer: Inspect the return window and warranty, and check for dead pixels, backlight bleed and uneven brightness. These qualities vary between units.

Price is decisive. PC Monitors reported a roughly $900 USD price at the time of its review, but that historical figure does not establish today’s value. DisplayNinja later noted stronger alternatives in the same general price range. Compare the actual offer—including condition, warranty and return terms—with newer 4K/144Hz monitors before paying a premium. PC Monitors’ review and DisplayNinja’s review provide the historical context.

Alternatives by priority

  • Gigabyte M28U: A close 28-inch 4K/144Hz alternative. In RTINGS’ comparison, the Acer has better ergonomics and slightly lower input lag, while the Gigabyte offers KVM, picture-in-picture/picture-by-picture and better black-frame insertion. See RTINGS’ Acer-versus-Gigabyte comparison.
  • Full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 monitor: Consider one if 48Gbps HDMI and fewer bandwidth-related signal compromises matter more than the Acer’s price or ergonomics.
  • OLED monitor: A better direction for deep blacks and impactful HDR, with different costs and trade-offs, including text characteristics, burn-in considerations and often larger screen sizes.
  • 1440p high-refresh or 4K/60Hz monitor: A better-value class if you do not need 4K/120Hz console support or do not have the GPU to make high-refresh 4K useful.
