For most small groups, GPORTAL or Nitrado is the simplest choice; choose GTXGaming for a modded world, Hostinger for VPS-level control, or consider BisectHosting if its locations suit your group. These are use-case recommendations based on providers’ published features and prices observed in August 2026—not a controlled test of speed, uptime, or support. Prices and offers can change.
Quick comparison
Published price examples below are in US dollars and were observed in August 2026. They are not normalized for location, features, or billing commitment, so they should not be read as a like-for-like value ranking.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| GPORTAL | Low-friction, conventional hosting | $15.59 for 30 days and 10 slots in the displayed Central Europe configuration; a three-day option is shown from $6.23. | Game-specific service; page advertises setup in under three minutes. Public page does not clearly list full CPU/RAM specifications. | ValheimPlus support, DDoS protection, ticket support, and 50 GB of backup storage are advertised. Backup storage alone does not establish frequency or restore terms. |
| Nitrado | Flexible rental periods and PC/Xbox groups | $16.19 for 30 days and 10 slots; a three-day option is shown at $4.09. | Slot and runtime configuration; public offer does not provide a detailed hardware comparison. | PC/Xbox crossplay is displayed. Check the current mod workflow and resource options before buying for a substantial modpack. |
| GTXGaming | Modded play and configurable resources | $12.66/month Basic; $21.52/month Recommended; $32.92/month Heavy Modded. | Listed tiers show 10 slots, 10–16 GB DDR5 RAM, and up to 100 GB NVMe storage; Heavy Modded lists high CPU priority. | Advertises BepInEx, ValheimPlus, Nexus Mods, Thunderstore, PC/Xbox crossplay, scheduled off-site backups, and world migration. |
| BisectHosting | Location-focused mainstream alternative | Exact current price is not exposed on the public product page; check the plan selector. | Advertises 21 global locations. Exact plan resources need to be confirmed in the selector or checkout. | Confirm current mod, crossplay, backup, and restore terms for the selected plan before ordering. |
| Hostinger Game Panel VPS | Technical users who want root access and broader control | $13.99/month equivalent on a 24-month term, paid as $335.76 upfront; listed renewal is $28.99/month. | Game Panel 4 offer lists 4 vCPU cores, 16 GB RAM, 200 GB NVMe, 16 TB bandwidth, and root access. | Advertises mod support, one-click installation, weekly backups, DDoS protection, and migration via FTP, SCP, or rsync. VPS administration remains part of the trade-off. |
Prices depend on term, location, currency, tax, and promotion. For GTXGaming, listed tier prices and features are provider claims, not independent performance measurements. Hostinger’s effective monthly figure requires a two-year upfront commitment, unlike a 30-day game-server rental.
Which Valheim host should you choose?
GPORTAL: straightforward game-specific hosting
GPORTAL is a sensible choice if you want a conventional Valheim rental, quick setup, and a game-focused management experience rather than operating a server environment yourself. Its public offer shows a 10-slot, 30-day plan at $15.59, plus longer terms and a three-day option. The displayed price is tied to a selected configuration and may vary by region, tax, currency, or promotion. The page also advertises ValheimPlus support, DDoS protection, 24/7 ticket support, and 50 GB of backup storage. It does not clearly state full CPU and RAM specifications, and the backup-storage figure does not by itself tell you whether backups are automatic, how often they run, or how restoration works.

Nitrado: flexible durations and advertised PC/Xbox crossplay
Nitrado suits groups that want to rent for a short period or need a provider that explicitly displays PC/Xbox crossplay. Its public offer shows a 10-slot plan at $16.19 for 30 days, a $4.09 three-day option, and multiple locations, including New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Frankfurt, London, Singapore, São Paulo, Tokyo, and Sydney. The available configuration flow lets customers adjust slots and runtime. The public offer does not give a detailed hardware comparison; if you plan to use a large modpack, confirm the current installation workflow and available resources before paying. Treat any location latency shown in the interface as a display for that selection, not a universal performance guarantee.
GTXGaming: modded servers and visible resource tiers
GTXGaming is the strongest fit here for players who expect to run mods or want to compare resource tiers. Its US-facing page lists a Basic plan at $12.66/month with 10 GB DDR5 RAM, 10 slots, and 100 GB NVMe storage; Recommended at $21.52/month with 12 GB RAM, 10 slots, and 100 GB NVMe; and Heavy Modded at $32.92/month with 16 GB RAM, 10 slots, and high CPU priority. The provider also lists configurable plans from $12.66/month, ValheimPlus, BepInEx, Nexus Mods, Thunderstore, PC/Xbox crossplay, scheduled off-site backups, world migration, and 11 locations. These are published product specifications and claims, not independent benchmarks or proof that every mod works with every game build.
The page advertises a 24-hour money-back guarantee; confirm the terms that apply to your region and purchase. Higher tiers may be excessive for a small vanilla world, and the listed price can vary with location, currency, tax, billing period, and promotion.

BisectHosting: a location-focused alternative
BisectHosting advertises Valheim hosting across 21 global locations, making it worth considering if its available region is closer to most of your players. The public product page does not expose enough current price or hardware detail to support a precise value comparison. Use the official selector to inspect the current plan and confirm slot count, resources, billing term, renewal price, backups, crossplay, and mod options before purchasing.

Hostinger Game Panel VPS: more control, more administration
Hostinger’s Game Panel VPS is for people who want a VPS environment rather than a typical slot-based game-server rental. The listed Game Panel 4 offer includes 4 vCPU cores, 16 GB RAM, 200 GB NVMe storage, 16 TB bandwidth, root access, mod support, one-click installation, weekly backups, DDoS protection, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. It also supports hosting multiple games and describes migration using FTP, SCP, or rsync. The provider advertises worldwide datacenters.
The headline rate is $13.99/month equivalent only when paying $335.76 upfront for 24 months; the page lists renewal at $28.99/month. Root access brings flexibility, but a VPS can also mean more responsibility for updates, security, monitoring, and troubleshooting than a managed Valheim service. The published resources do not establish how the server will perform in a particular world or mod configuration.

What matters when choosing a Valheim server?
Choose the location for your players
Pick the datacenter closest to the majority of your group, not the hosting company’s headquarters. A distant server can add input delay or rubber-banding even when the plan advertises powerful hardware. Check that the provider offers a suitable location in its selector before comparing prices.

Match resources to the workload
For two to five players on a vanilla world, prioritize a suitable location, dependable access, backups, and a manageable price. For six to ten players on vanilla, a normal managed plan is often the simpler starting point. Mods, large builds, sustained activity, or extra server software can increase resource needs; CPU performance and priority matter alongside RAM. More RAM alone is not a guarantee of smoother play, and the published plans do not support a reliable player-count-to-RAM formula.

Many providers sell 10-slot examples, but a slot count is not a universal technical limit or a promise about performance. Server modifications and provider configuration can change practical capacity.
Understand what “mod support” means
These claims can describe very different levels of service: mods being allowed, file access, a one-click installer, preconfigured BepInEx, or active provider help with a particular mod. GTXGaming explicitly lists several mod ecosystems, while GPORTAL lists ValheimPlus support. Nitrado’s public offer is not enough to establish an equally convenient mod workflow, so check the current panel before choosing it for a mod-heavy world.
Even when a host supports a framework, an individual mod may conflict with the current Valheim build, server build, client mod list, crossplay, or another mod. Keep a known-good mod profile and back up the world before installing or updating mods.
Check backups and migration before you need them
“Backup storage,” scheduled backups, automatic backups, off-site copies, retention, and one-click restore are not interchangeable promises. Before buying, find out how often backups run, how long they are retained, whether you can restore them yourself, and whether you can download a copy. GTXGaming advertises scheduled off-site backups and world migration; GPORTAL advertises 50 GB of backup storage, which does not establish the same schedule or restore policy. Regardless of provider, periodically download your world files so you have a copy you control.
If you are moving an existing world, preserve both its .db and .fwl files. Confirm that the destination host accepts uploads and that you can later download the files to migrate away. GTXGaming lists world migration; Hostinger describes FTP, SCP, or rsync migration.
Compare billing on equal terms
Check the selected currency, location, slot count, billing period, tax, promotion, renewal rate, cancellation rules, and any setup charge. A short rental can be useful for trying a provider, while a long prepaid term may lower the displayed monthly equivalent but raises the upfront commitment. Do not call one of these offers the cheapest without matching term, location, slots, and features.

| Consideration | Managed game server | VPS or game-panel VPS |
|---|---|---|
| Examples in this guide | GPORTAL, Nitrado, GTXGaming, BisectHosting | Hostinger |
| Setup and routine use | Usually quicker to start, with a game-specific control panel and less operating-system administration. | More setup and administration may fall to you, even when a game panel or one-click installation is offered. |
| Control and resources | Often organized around slots and provider-defined options; hardware detail varies. | Can offer root access and broader control over the operating system and installed services; a VPS is not automatically a dedicated physical machine. |
| Best fit | Groups seeking a Valheim-focused workflow, world management, and less Linux administration. | Technically confident users who want custom configurations or to host several games or services. |
Choose a managed service if you want the provider’s game-specific workflow and minimal maintenance. Consider a VPS if you understand the administration involved and value root access or flexibility enough to accept the upfront term and added responsibility.
Set up or move a world without risking your save
- Choose the datacenter. Select a location close to most players and verify it is available for the plan you intend to buy.
- Pick the service type and plan. Decide whether a managed server or VPS matches your technical comfort, then check the full price and renewal terms.
- Save a copy of the world. Before migration, updates, or mod changes, make a backup and download the
.dband.fwlfiles if the panel permits it. - Upload and configure. Use the provider’s documented method to upload the world, then set the server name, password, and intended crossplay or mod configuration.
- Test with a small group. Confirm that the server starts and players can join before inviting everyone. For a modded server, keep client and server mod versions aligned.
- Verify recovery. Check the backup schedule, retention, restore process, and download option; keep a separate copy of the world.
What to do when an update or mod breaks the server
- Check the provider’s service notices and confirm that the server and clients are on compatible game builds.
- Restore or preserve a backup before making further changes.
- If the server stopped launching after a mod change, temporarily disable the changed mod and test with the last known-good configuration.
- Update clients and server together where required, and keep a copy of the previous mod configuration.
- For crossplay, verify that the exact PC/Xbox setup and mod combination is supported; a general crossplay label does not guarantee every mod works across platforms.
How these recommendations should be read
The rankings reflect advertised product structure, features, and the use cases described above. They are not independent measurements of latency, CPU performance, uptime, or support quality. Provider claims such as DDoS protection, setup time, hardware, backups, and mod support should be checked against the selected plan’s current terms. Prices and features may change after the August 2026 observation date.
