It is a less certain fit if you want frequent hints, a guided route, or controls that feel immediately familiar: one reviewer reports no hint system, and the game’s unusual one-button scheme takes adjustment.
What kind of game is Lorelei and the Laser Eyes?
Developed by Simogo and published by Annapurna Interactive, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is a nonlinear puzzle mystery set in an old hotel somewhere in central Europe. An eccentric man has summoned a woman there to take part in a project. You explore the hotel, examine documents and objects, and solve handcrafted puzzles as its mystery grows increasingly surreal. The premise is intentionally enigmatic; the pleasure comes from working out how details connect, so it is best approached with as few spoilers as possible.

Progress is not simply a matter of completing one puzzle after another in a fixed sequence. Clues and puzzle threads can lead you in different directions, and an answer may become useful much later. Press Start reviewer James O’Connor describes clues paying off hours after they first appear. If one problem has you stuck, you may be able to explore elsewhere and return with a new insight.
Is it worth playing if you like puzzles?
Yes, if you want to do the work of solving. The central appeal is the steady cycle of noticing a detail, forming a theory, testing it, and gradually building a picture of both the hotel and its story. TouchArcade reviewer Mikhail Madnani praises the puzzles and atmosphere, while O’Connor highlights the distinctive visual style and narrative. Simogo also includes optional minigames, stories, and collectibles for players interested in exploring beyond the main puzzle path.

The game’s controls reflect that emphasis on thought over dexterity. Simogo says it designed the game around directional inputs and a single button, writing: “We wanted the complexity of the game to completely revolve around this, and never around dexterity.” That simplicity does not mean the controls will feel conventional: both cited reviewers say the scheme takes getting used to, and Madnani notes some directional interaction choices he disliked.
How hard is it, and what if you get stuck?
Expect to rely on observation, memory, and your own reasoning rather than a steady stream of prompts. Madnani reports that the game has no hint system and recommends keeping a notebook or using a note-taking app. A simple record of symbols, dates, names, and unresolved questions can make it easier to recognize a connection when a clue pays off later. You do not need a special accessory; ordinary notes are enough.
Some objects can be easy to miss, according to O’Connor. If progress stalls, revisit rooms and inspect details you may have passed over, then consider switching to another open puzzle thread rather than assuming you have reached a dead end. This is part of the game’s open-ended design, but it also means players who prefer clear objectives and frequent reassurance may find the experience frustrating.
