The videos show officers approaching, arresting and searching Mangione; ABC says the release also included a redacted recording of a strip search. The footage is evidence from the arrest, not a verdict on the New York murder charges.
What the newly released footage shows
The Associated Press (AP) reports that the recordings begin as officers arrive at the McDonald’s, where Mangione was seated wearing a ski hat, surgical mask and winter coat. Officers ask his name and identification, ask him to lower his mask, and question him about recent travel to New York. According to AP’s account of the video, he first gives the name Mark Rosario, then gives his real name after officers warn him about false identification.
AP says later footage shows a pat-down, Miranda warnings, handcuffing and transport to a police station. In a subsequent search of Mangione and his backpack, officers find a handgun, silencer, magazine, journal and handwritten notes, AP reports. The presence of an item in a recording does not by itself settle whether it is admissible evidence or what legal significance it has.
AP also describes an officer in the footage saying, “That’s 100% him.” The account does not identify the speaker by name or rank.

What became public—and what was already shown in court
ABC News reports that the October 2 release included arrest footage and a redacted version of the strip-search recording. ABC says the footage had largely been seen only in court before the public release. The court’s May 18, 2026 decision separately records that body-camera footage was introduced as evidence at the December 2025 suppression hearings; that description does not establish that the public release consists of every recording or exactly matches all material presented at those hearings.
Neither AP nor ABC establishes an official complete inventory of released recordings or their total running time.

Why the recordings were unsealed
AP reports that a Manhattan judge unsealed the recordings after CNN petitioned for their release. ABC says news outlets, including ABC News, petitioned the court. The decision to make the recordings public is distinct from the court’s ruling on whether evidence or statements from the arrest could be used in the criminal case.
How the footage connects to the suppression ruling
In a May 18, 2026 Decision and Order, Justice Gregory Carro of the New York Supreme Court, New York County, describes a McDonald’s employee calling 911 after recognizing Mangione from media coverage and Altoona officers responding. The court says Mangione sought to suppress evidence recovered and statements made during and after the arrest. Suppression hearings took place in December 2025, where body-camera footage was introduced.

The court ruled on those admissibility motions, stating: “For the reasons stated below, the motion is granted in part and denied in part.” That partial grant and partial denial concern the suppression motion; unsealing the recordings did not decide the New York charges.

As of AP’s October 2, 2026 report, Mangione faced New York state murder charges and those proceedings had been postponed indefinitely. That is a time-specific description of the case schedule, not a current-status guarantee or a finding of guilt.
