Yes. You can send a pre-recorded video to YouTube as a live stream using encoder software, a scheduled stream in YouTube Studio, and the stream URL and stream key. The file playback and looping controls come from the encoder you choose; YouTube does not prescribe one universal method for loading a video file. If you want YouTube to present an uploaded video as a scheduled viewing event instead, use a Premiere.
How to stream a pre-recorded video as a YouTube Live event
This method creates an encoder-fed live event: your encoder sends the video feed to YouTube, which hosts the event and its live chat. YouTube’s encoder instructions cover connecting the encoder to the stream, while selecting and playing a file depends on the encoder’s own features. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the connection process.
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. The person streaming must be at least 16 years old. Review YouTube’s current live-streaming requirements before scheduling, since eligibility and Studio interfaces can change.
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a live stream. Scheduling makes an upcoming event visible to viewers, who can find it and opt in to notifications. Consult YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance for the current options.
- Connect the encoder. Enter the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio in your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key as a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Use the encoder’s own help for the precise menus and controls.
- Load and play the video in the encoder. Choose the encoder’s documented file or media-source feature, then make sure both picture and audio are reaching the outgoing feed. Controls vary by software; YouTube’s setup instructions do not define a universal file-playback or looping procedure.
- Preview before going live. Check the preview in Live Control Room and monitor the picture and sound before starting the event. YouTube recommends checking the outgoing stream; see its live-streaming tips.
- End the event and protect the replay. Stop the feed from the encoder when the event is over. If you need a copy, keep a local recording and check the archive settings in advance.
Should you use Live or a Premiere?
Choose the format that matches what viewers should experience. YouTube supports both scheduled live streams and Premieres, but a Premiere is a scheduled presentation of an uploaded video rather than a feed sent by an encoder. YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance covers scheduled streams and Premieres.
| Choose | Best fit | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder-fed Live | You need a live-event workflow and want to send a video feed through an encoder. | The encoder sends to the scheduled stream; viewers use the live event and its live chat. |
| Premiere | You want to schedule an uploaded video for a shared viewing event, rather than send an encoder feed. | YouTube presents the uploaded video as a scheduled Premiere. |
Rights, copyright checks, and monetization
Only stream video and audio you have the necessary rights to use. YouTube’s live-stream terms say creators represent that they have the rights needed to exploit live content worldwide, including applicable music licensing rights. Read the livestream terms and conditions and clear rights for every relevant element, including music, footage, and other third-party material.

YouTube scans active streams for third-party content. A match can result in a placeholder image, a warning, a temporary interruption, or termination. If you have permission or a license, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add your channel to its allowlist; permission alone may not prevent an automated interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Monetization is not automatic. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams, and features such as ads or fan funding depend on channel eligibility and the applicable policies. A prerecorded live stream is not guaranteed to earn revenue. Check YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Will YouTube save the live stream?
YouTube can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not rely on YouTube as the only copy when preserving the recording matters. Make a local backup and review YouTube’s archive guidance before the event.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo runs that playback in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams what you upload, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded video playback to YouTube, not a camera-based broadcast. Start your free day with StreamNeo.

No. An encoder-fed stream is a Live event. A Premiere is a separate format for presenting an uploaded video on a schedule.
Can I loop the file using any encoder?
Looping controls depend on the encoder’s features. YouTube does not provide a universal file-loading or looping procedure in its encoder setup instructions.
