To loop prerecorded video as a 24/7 YouTube livestream, send the repeating video feed to YouTube Live through an encoder or a cloud streaming service. YouTube’s regular Loop control only repeats a video for someone watching; it does not create a live broadcast. For a continuous stream, create or select a live stream in YouTube Studio, give the encoder the stream URL and stream key, then preview and monitor the broadcast.
First, distinguish looping playback from running a livestream
If you want to repeat a video while watching it, YouTube’s desktop player has a Loop option: right-click the video and choose Loop. For a playlist, use the playlist’s repeat control. Those controls affect playback for the viewer; they do not send the video to YouTube Live or make the channel appear live. YouTube’s instructions for looping videos or playlists cover this viewer-side feature.
To broadcast a prerecorded video continuously, an encoder or cloud streaming workflow must send a live feed to YouTube. YouTube describes an encoder as converting video into a digital format for streaming and lists both software and hardware encoder options, as well as Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. A particular paid product is not required by the general encoder workflow. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
Run the stream with an encoder you control
1. Prepare the video and connection
Choose the recording or sequence of recordings you have permission to broadcast, and configure your encoder to repeat the material. Before starting, confirm that your computer and internet connection can remain available for the intended run. The stream’s bitrate must fit your available upload bandwidth; an unstable or interrupted connection can disrupt the broadcast. YouTube’s streaming tips explain why connection capacity and reliability matter.

Keep the broadcast content within YouTube’s policies and use video and audio you are entitled to stream. YouTube recommends checking content and stream quality as part of its live-streaming tips.
2. Create or select a live stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create a live stream or select the stream you intend to use.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe this workflow. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, activation may take up to 24 hours, so set up and test the channel before the broadcast date.

3. Add the stream details to your encoder
In the encoder’s streaming settings, enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key. The key is a credential that lets the encoder send video to your channel: keep it private, do not publish it in a screenshot or stream, and reset it if you think someone else has obtained it. YouTube explains stream settings in Manage live stream settings.
4. Preview, start and verify the broadcast
- Start sending the feed from the encoder and check the preview in Live Control Room.
- Confirm the event appears on the intended channel or watch page; check it on a phone as well as your main device.
- Listen and watch for problems, and keep monitoring audio, video and stream status during the run.
- If keeping a complete copy matters, verify that a local recording is being written and that its file continues to grow.
YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend checking visibility and continuously monitoring quality. Test the whole setup before depending on it for an unattended stream.

If viewers need a complete replay or you need a full record, make and check a local recording rather than relying on YouTube’s archive. Consult YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR guidance.

The encoder cannot connect to YouTube
Check that the stream URL and key match the selected stream in YouTube Studio. Treat the key as a password; if it may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder with the replacement. Also confirm the channel has live streaming enabled; first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
The stream stalls or drops
Check that available upload bandwidth can sustain the configured bitrate and that the connection is stable. YouTube notes that interruptions can break a stream. Test under the expected operating conditions and monitor the event; a local encoder depends on the local machine and network remaining available.
The stream is live but viewers report poor or missing audio/video
Use the Live Control Room preview, inspect the encoder output and monitor the stream continuously. Check from the watch page and a mobile device rather than assuming a local preview proves the public event is working.
The full broadcast is missing from the archive or cannot be rewound
For runs exceeding 12 hours, YouTube may not capture an archive, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. Preserve a local recording if the complete broadcast matters.
