If a YouTube Live playlist will not move to its next video, first check whether the current video is actually stuck or whether playback works but the playlist transition fails. Then compare the same content on another device and connection. These checks help narrow down the problem; YouTube’s general playback guidance does not establish one universal fix for playlist transitions.
First identify what is failing
Watch what happens when the current item reaches the point where you expect the next one to start. Is the video still playing while the next playlist item never loads, is playback buffering or frozen, or has the live stream itself ended? Note which device you are using and whether other videos or playlists advance normally.
- Buffering or freezing: troubleshoot general playback and the network first.
- One playlist fails to advance: test another playlist and another device to see whether the issue is limited to that content or playback path.
- The broadcast has ended: a playlist cannot continue that live broadcast; check whether the channel has another live stream or video available.
YouTube’s support guidance covers playback problems such as buffering and loading, but does not provide a dedicated consumer fix for every playlist-transition failure. YouTube’s troubleshooting guide
Check whether the connection or device is involved
- Replay using another connection. If practical, switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data or try another network, then test the same content again. A change in behavior points toward the connection or the route through which playback is being delivered, but does not by itself identify a specific cause.
- Test another supported device. Open the same video or playlist on a different phone, computer, or TV. If it advances there, focus next on the original device or its YouTube app or browser.
- Check whether other videos advance. If only one playlist fails, record that detail when reporting the problem. If playback problems affect multiple videos, follow the device-specific checks below.
Fixes to try on a computer
- Close and reopen the browser, then retry the playlist.
- Close excess tabs and applications that may be competing for device or network resources.
- Update the browser and restart the computer.
- If videos buffer or load slowly, try a different internet connection and test again.
These are general playback troubleshooting steps, not a guaranteed repair for a playlist transition that fails while the current video plays normally. YouTube Help: troubleshoot streaming and video issues on a computer

Fixes to try in the YouTube mobile app
If playback is buffering or loading, clear the YouTube app cache through your device’s app settings, then reopen YouTube and test again. The exact settings path varies by device and operating system, so use the app or storage settings on your phone or tablet rather than following a one-size-fits-all menu path.
Fixes to try on a TV
- If the YouTube player offers a quality setting, select a different playback quality and retry.
- Quit the YouTube app completely and reopen it.
- Sign out of YouTube and sign back in.
- Restart the TV or streaming device, then check for system software updates.
- Compare playback through another route: play from another device and cast to the TV, or connect a laptop to the TV with HDMI and test the same content.
If one route works and another does not, that narrows the troubleshooting focus to the affected app or device path; it does not prove the underlying cause. YouTube lists these as TV playback checks in its streaming and video troubleshooting guidance.

If the problem is live delay, not a playlist transition
A live broadcast can be delayed by network congestion and other factors, even when your connection seems good. That is different from a playlist failing to load its next item. YouTube’s discussion of broadcast delay in its support material is specifically about Primetime Channels on TV; do not treat it as a general playlist setting or assume that changing a playlist option will remove live delay. If you are building an embedded player
The IFrame Player API is a separate case from playback in YouTube’s regular website or app. For an embed, check that the required playlist parameter contains an array of YouTube video IDs. The API also documents that calling nextVideo() while the last playlist item is playing ends playback if the playlist is not configured to play continuously. The autoplay parameter controls whether playback starts automatically when the embedded player loads; it does not diagnose a consumer-app transition problem.

When the issue continues
After testing another connection and device, and trying the relevant restart or update steps, reproduce the problem and send feedback from the YouTube app’s Help and feedback menu. Include the device type, whether the current item was still playing, whether other videos advanced, and which connection or playback route you tested. Those details distinguish a general playback failure from a playlist-specific transition issue.
