To set membership levels on an eligible YouTube channel in India, open YouTube Studio on a computer and go to Earn > Memberships > Get started. YouTube allows up to six levels, but its guidance is to start with one to three. Choose India-specific price points and perks you can deliver reliably, then review the current options shown in Studio before publishing.
Check whether your channel can use memberships
The Memberships tab appears only for eligible channels. YouTube’s current monetization guidance lists these thresholds: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the past 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the past 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days. You must also be at least 18, live where memberships are available, accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM), and meet channel and content eligibility rules. YouTube applies feature-specific eligibility and may withhold a feature even when a channel meets the listed thresholds. See YouTube’s channel memberships eligibility guidance.
If your channel has just been accepted into the YouTube Partner Program, membership activation may take up to two days because YouTube may review the feature separately. If you do not see Memberships in Studio, check eligibility and allow time for activation rather than assuming the setup option is available to every YPP channel. YouTube’s setup instructions describe the Studio flow.
Set up memberships in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio with the channel account.
- Open Earn, then select Memberships. If the tab is visible, select Get started.
- For first-time setup, review and accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM), which governs the commerce features.
- Follow the on-screen steps to create levels, choose prices and assign perks. Review each level and its benefits before submitting the setup.
Use the price choices currently presented in your Studio flow. YouTube’s India schedule has been rolling out gradually, so the available options and prices shown to a particular creator may not yet match every existing membership.

How many levels should you create?
YouTube permits up to six levels. Its guidance is: “Consider starting with 1 to 3 pricing levels before increasing to more.” A small number of clear choices is easier to explain and maintain; add another level only when it offers a distinct benefit that you can consistently deliver.
Make each step up meaningful without making the entry level feel empty. Perks stack as members move to higher levels, so spell out what is included at each price and avoid adding a benefit that is merely a renamed version of one already offered below it. Ask your audience what it values, for example with a members-only post or poll.

Choose a price from YouTube’s India schedule
YouTube’s India pricing page labels the following as “New channel membership pricing” and says updates began rolling out gradually in May 2025. These are listed price points, not a recommendation that a particular tier will sell best:

Because the rollout is gradual, existing members may be on legacy prices, and YouTube notes that a member’s price can depend on when they joined. Do not assume every existing channel or member already uses the new schedule. There is no universally best India price or tier structure established by YouTube’s guidance. Treat the available points as choices to match to a specific, sustainable benefit and learn from your own audience response.
Design perks you can keep delivering
YouTube’s documented membership perks include badges and emoji, members-only posts, videos, Shorts and live streams. Decide what a member receives, how often it arrives, and what effort or expense it requires before setting the price. A lower price with a repeatable benefit can be more dependable than a high tier built around an open-ended promise.

- Make the difference concrete: describe the actual access or content each level adds.
- Estimate the workload: account for preparation, moderation, production costs and a realistic publishing schedule.
- Check scalability: prefer benefits you can provide consistently as membership grows.
- Keep content compliant: members-only videos must be fully original and must not include copyright-claimed content. When publishing one, you can choose which membership levels may watch it.
For creators deciding whether to promote members-only content, YouTube’s levels-and-perks help page reports that, on average, 20% of new members join after seeing a members-only content promotion on the YouTube home, watch next, search or channel page. YouTube says creators receive 70% of membership revenue recognized by Google after applicable taxes and fees are deducted; YouTube currently covers transaction costs such as credit-card fees. If your channel is in a multi-channel network (MCN), check its agreement because the network may take an additional share. You can edit perks after launch. Under YouTube’s pricing guidance, you can adjust prices for new members once every 12 months from the last update; existing members remain at their original price under the described policy.
