Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →You can run a 24/7 lofi YouTube stream on a limited upload connection by choosing a modest resolution and bitrate that your connection can sustain—not by trying to use its full advertised speed. Measure upload performance at different times, start with a conservative 480p30 test, and check YouTube’s stream health before leaving the broadcast unattended. There is no single safe bitrate for every connection.
Measure your upload speed and leave headroom
Test your actual upload speed at different times, including periods when the connection is normally busy. Use a conservative stable result rather than the best peak. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and choosing a quality reliable for your connection (YouTube encoder settings).
Your stream shares upstream capacity with other household or studio traffic. Do not set the encoder to consume all the upload bandwidth a speed test reports: other devices, congestion, and fluctuations can leave too little capacity for a stable broadcast. If the connection is shared, reserve headroom and test while typical devices are online.
Choose a modest starting resolution and bitrate
YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations distinguish between resolution and frame rate. Its recommended rates are platform guidance, not guarantees that a connection with the same nominal upload speed will deliver reliably.

| Video setting | YouTube recommended bitrate | YouTube minimum bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 360p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 0.4 Mbps |
| 480p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 0.4 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
For a mostly static lofi illustration, test 480p30 first: lower resolution may be an acceptable tradeoff when the scene has little motion. That is a practical starting point, not a special YouTube lofi preset. If the image is too soft, try 720p30 only when repeated tests show the connection can sustain it. YouTube’s listed minimum is not a promise of good-looking output or stable delivery.
For audio, YouTube recommends stereo at 128 kbps. Keep the video and audio settings within the encoder’s supported options and judge the result using both the picture and the stream-health indicators.

Configure the encoder and test the live feed
YouTube’s current guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS ingestion, H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; it says not to exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection between your encoder and YouTube. Follow the instructions for your encoder and YouTube’s current live encoder settings for the exact stream-key and ingest setup.
- Set the video output. Choose H.264, CBR, and the resolution and frame rate you intend to use—480p30 is a reasonable first test for a mostly static scene.
- Set the keyframe interval. Use two seconds; do not exceed YouTube’s four-second limit.
- Set audio. Use stereo audio and YouTube’s recommended 128 kbps bitrate.
- Connect securely. Use RTMPS if your encoder and ingest setup support it, and enter the YouTube stream key carefully.
- Run a representative test. Include the actual music, artwork, and any motion or scene changes planned for the 24/7 broadcast. Check the encoder’s dropped-frame information and YouTube’s stream-health display before relying on the setup.
- Adjust one step at a time. If delivery is unstable or frames are dropping, lower the video bitrate first; if necessary, test a lower resolution. Repeat the test before leaving the stream unattended.
OBS notes that rising dropped frames can mean the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the selected bitrate, and lowering video bitrate is one troubleshooting step (OBS connection troubleshooting). A lower encoder setting cannot repair packet loss or an unreliable internet service, so treat a successful test as evidence for that tested setup and conditions—not a guarantee for every hour of the day.

Plan for 24/7 operation and archives
A continuous broadcast needs an operating plan as well as a bitrate. Decide how the encoder will keep running, what you will do after an internet or power interruption, and whether you need a local recording. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; it recommends keeping a local archive if you need a backup (YouTube live-stream archives).
- If a replay matters, do not assume YouTube will save a complete 24/7 broadcast. Consider local recording and plan how to store it.
- You can consider shorter broadcast sessions, but splitting a stream does not guarantee every archive or continuity issue will be avoided.
- Test recovery from a dropped connection before launch. A good test should include the process for noticing the interruption and getting the encoder live again.
Clear music and visual rights before going live
YouTube requires streamers to have the necessary rights for live content, including music rights. It scans live streams for third-party matches; a match can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination. YouTube states that all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content (YouTube live-stream copyright).

Keep records of permissions for the music and visuals, and check whether a rights holder needs to allowlist your channel through Content ID to prevent interruptions. Owning a recording or having a license does not automatically mean every Content ID issue is resolved.

Copyright permission and YouTube Partner Program eligibility are different questions. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams, and repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible even when the creator has permission to use its assets. YouTube clarified on July 15, 2025, that repetitive or mass-produced material falls under its inauthentic-content policy (YouTube channel monetization policies).

Original music and artwork, meaningful variation, and a distinct reason for viewers to return may help a channel offer more than a repeated loop, but no particular format guarantees monetization. Do not assume that owning or licensing the music and visuals makes an endless loop eligible.
Troubleshoot common low-upload problems
| Symptom | Likely issue | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Dropped frames increase during the broadcast | The connection may be unstable or unable to sustain the chosen bitrate. | Lower the video bitrate, test again, and reduce resolution if needed. Check stream health at busy times as well as during a quiet period. |
| Stream health is poor despite a good speed-test peak | The peak may not reflect stable upload capacity; other traffic or fluctuations may be consuming headroom. | Repeat tests at different times, reduce competing upstream traffic during testing, and choose settings based on stable results rather than the single best reading. |
| 480p looks acceptable, but 720p is unstable | The higher-resolution setting requires more bitrate than the connection may reliably provide. | Return to the stable setting. Keep the lower resolution rather than trading a continuous stream for a sharper but unreliable picture. |
| YouTube interrupts the stream after a music match | The stream may contain third-party content that Content ID recognizes, or the rights holder may not have allowlisted the channel. | Review the match, confirm live-stream permissions, and contact the rights holder about any required allowlisting before restarting. |
| A long broadcast has no complete replay | Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. | Use a local recording if an archive matters; do not rely on YouTube to preserve the full 24/7 stream. |
