To fix audio out of sync on a podcast YouTube live stream, first find where the mismatch begins. If audio is ahead of video, delay the affected audio source; if video is ahead, delay the image source. In OBS, use Advanced Audio Properties > Sync Offset (ms) for audio, or apply OBS’s Render Delay filter to the image source. Test the change in a local recording and on the YouTube stream; there is no universal offset that works for every setup.
Audio sync is different from stream delay
Audio/video sync describes whether a voice lines up with the speaker’s mouth or a sound with its visible action. Stream latency is the time between capture by the camera or encoder and display to viewers. YouTube’s low-latency options affect that end-to-end delay and can increase buffering; changing them is not a direct lip-sync correction. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
Find out who is affected and where the fault starts
Check more than one viewer
Watch the stream in YouTube’s Live Control Room and on a separate viewer device. If only one person reports the issue, their device or internet connection may be responsible. If viewers on separate connections report the same mismatch, investigate the encoder. If affected viewers share one network, that network may be involved. These are diagnostic clues, not guarantees.
Compare the encoder preview and a local archive
Look and listen in the encoder preview, then inspect a local recording if one is available. If the mismatch is already there, focus on sources and routing before changing YouTube settings. Check that the intended microphone, mixer or interface output, camera, and any capture-device audio are routed to the correct sources and are not unintentionally included twice. YouTube recommends checking the routed audio and video sources, encoder errors, CPU load, and the local archive; it also advises keeping encoder software current. Follow its live stream troubleshooting guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the encoder output appears healthy but the YouTube stream does not, review stream health and reported errors, then investigate the outbound connection. YouTube recommends checking upload speed and leaving upload-capacity headroom; a network change will not fix an offset that is already present in the local signal.
Measure which signal is early
Make a short test containing a clear visible movement and its sound, such as a hand clap. Compare the sound transient with the moment of visible contact in the encoder preview or recording. Repeat the test to rule out a playback hiccup before adjusting anything. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream; see its encoder settings guidance. A clapperboard or slate is optional: a hand clap is enough, and neither prop repairs timing.

- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Audio ahead of video: the sound happens before the matching movement. Delay the affected audio source.
- Audio behind video: the sound follows the matching movement. If the picture is early, delay the image source rather than delaying audio further.
Correct a stable offset in OBS
If audio is ahead, delay the audio source
In OBS, open Advanced Audio Properties and adjust Sync Offset (ms) for the affected audio source. OBS Project forum guidance identifies this control for adjusting audio timing. Change only the source that needs correction, then record or preview another test. The exact menu labels can change between OBS versions, so check the current interface if they differ from these labels: OBS Project forum guidance on audio delay.
If the picture is early, delay the image source
When the image arrives before the audio, use OBS’s Render Delay filter on the relevant image source. OBS documents it as a way to sync a webcam image with microphone audio. Apply it only to the source that is early and verify the result: OBS Render Delay filter documentation.

Retest instead of copying someone else’s number
There is no universal millisecond value: the right adjustment depends on the actual mismatch and signal path. Change the relevant source in small increments, make another representative recording, and check both the encoder preview or local archive and a separate viewer device. Avoid changing audio and video offsets at the same time, since that makes it harder to tell which change helped.
What to do if audio keeps drifting out of sync
A stable offset and timing that worsens during a stream are different problems. A single constant Sync Offset or Render Delay may align one moment without fixing the cause of drift. First establish whether the local archive also drifts. If it does, inspect source routing, encoder errors, and CPU load. If the local recording stays aligned but viewers see drift, review YouTube stream health and the outbound connection. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance covers those checks, but does not specify one universal fix for live-stream drift.

Check delivery without confusing it with lip sync
If local preview and recording are aligned, review stream health and the errors shown in YouTube’s Live Control Room. YouTube recommends an upload-speed check and contacting the internet provider if the connection is faulty. Its streaming tips advise sufficient upload capacity and headroom.
Latency settings involve a trade-off between audience interaction and buffering. They affect how long delivery takes, not the relative timing of the voice and picture. Do not change latency as a substitute for correcting a source-level offset.
