For a static rain scene, start with 1080p30, H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and stereo AAC at 44.1 kHz/128 kbps. YouTube’s current guidance recommends 14 Mbps for 1080p30 H.264; its 5 Mbps figure is the minimum, not the recommended target. Use a lower-resolution profile if your connection cannot sustain the higher bitrate, then test the actual stream and monitor YouTube’s health indicators.
Recommended starting settings for a rain stream
Use this as a starting profile, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming. YouTube’s published encoder guidance recommends 14 Mbps for 1080p30 H.264 and lists 5 Mbps as the minimum. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance listed these figures in 2026. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance includes additional values for other resolutions, frame rates, and codecs.
| Setting | Starting value | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data into and through Google’s servers. |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1080p30 | A rain scene usually has little motion, so 30 fps is generally a sensible choice; 60 fps is not required by the subject. |
| Video codec | H.264 | A codec listed in YouTube’s encoder guidance. |
| Video bitrate | 14 Mbps recommended; 5 Mbps minimum | These are YouTube’s 1080p30 H.264 figures, not estimates of the internet plan you need. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube recommends constant bitrate. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio | AAC stereo, 44.1 kHz, 128 kbps | YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio and specifies these values for stereo audio. |
For a static visual, 60 fps generally adds little editorial value. If upload capacity is limited or variable, choose a lower resolution and the corresponding bitrate recommendation rather than trying to force 1080p30 at a rate the connection cannot sustain. YouTube also lists H.265 (HEVC) and AV1; the table below compares the selected 30-fps values from YouTube’s encoder guidance.
Choose a bitrate your connection can sustain
| Profile | YouTube-recommended bitrate | Connection planning | Local archive |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 H.264 | 14 Mbps recommended; 5 Mbps minimum | Allow headroom above the video bitrate for audio and network variation; verify stability with an upload test. | Use separate local recording if a complete archive matters; streams over 12 hours may not be captured automatically. |
| 1080p30 AV1 or H.265 | 10 Mbps recommended; 4 Mbps minimum | Allow headroom and test the actual upload path. | Same archive limitation applies. |
| 720p30 H.264 | 8 Mbps recommended; 3 Mbps minimum | Allow headroom and test the actual upload path. | Same archive limitation applies. |
| 720p30 AV1 or H.265 | 6 Mbps recommended; 2 Mbps minimum | Allow headroom and test the actual upload path. | Same archive limitation applies. |
Bitrate figures above are YouTube encoder recommendations, not measured minimum household internet speeds. A connection that briefly reaches the target can still fail during a long broadcast. YouTube transcodes incoming streams into output formats for viewers on different devices and networks, so you do not need to encode a separate stream for every viewer quality.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up and test the encoder before going live
- Prepare the scene. Add the rain visual and the intended audio loop. Check the entire loop, including its start and end points, volume, and any transitions; a test with different media will not reveal problems in the actual broadcast.
- Configure the encoder. Select RTMPS, H.264, CBR, the chosen resolution and frame rate, a 2-second keyframe interval, and the matching video bitrate. Set stereo audio to AAC at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps, if those options are available in your encoder.
- Connect to YouTube Live Control Room. Enter the stream key for the broadcast. YouTube normally detects resolution and frame rate automatically. If you need to set them manually, YouTube’s guidance describes using a custom stream key and enabling manual settings.
- Run a representative test before the long stream. YouTube says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Test with the actual rain audio, visual, and transitions. OBS recommends testing settings for a few minutes before relying on the stream.
- Watch stream health and messages. Check YouTube’s Live Control Room indicators while the test runs and review any messages rather than assuming the preset is healthy. YouTube’s Live Streaming API diagnostics include audio bitrate and GOP configuration issues, as well as warnings when it is not receiving enough video for smooth streaming.
Keep a 24/7 broadcast stable
OBS identifies dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as signs of network instability or a connection that cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Its guidance recommends lowering bitrate when necessary and using wired networking because Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable is one way to make a wired connection; it cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. OBS connection troubleshooting explains these network symptoms.
- Test the actual upload path at the selected settings, and leave network headroom instead of treating YouTube’s encoder bitrate as the total internet speed required.
- If frames drop or the connection disconnects intermittently, try a lower bitrate or resolution and test again. A wired connection can remove Wi-Fi as one possible source of instability.
- Check YouTube’s stream health diagnostics for the specific stream. Audio bitrate, GOP, or insufficient incoming video warnings point to different problems; respond to the message rather than changing settings blindly.
- Do not treat any bitrate preset, cable, or short successful test as proof that a 24/7 stream will never be interrupted.
Plan for the archive and DVR limits
YouTube says it can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends recording a local archive as a backup. A single continuous 24/7 broadcast should therefore not be your only copy if you need a complete recording. Plan separate local recording and enough storage for it. YouTube’s archive guidance covers the capture limitation.

If you would rather not keep an encoder computer and home connection running, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video live on YouTube from the cloud. Upload the rain recording, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; it loops the video, with playlists available. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera.
