For a 24/7 YouTube stream over BSNL, use OBS with H.264 video, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval and a bitrate your connection can sustain continuously—not one it only reaches in a speed test. Start conservatively, then test a representative stream and monitor OBS dropped frames and YouTube stream health. Check your own BSNL circle’s current plan, fair-usage allowance and post-FUP speed before committing to nonstop streaming.
Choose OBS settings that fit your measured upload
YouTube’s published H.264 bitrate figures are platform guidance, not a guarantee that a BSNL connection will sustain them. The right setting depends on stable upload at the streaming computer’s location, video motion, and other traffic sharing the connection.

For relatively static or slow-moving programming, 30 fps may be adequate; 60 fps can help preserve motion detail. If your measured upload cannot reliably stay above the selected bitrate with room for ordinary variation and household traffic, reduce resolution, frame rate or bitrate and test again.
Core encoder settings
- Protocol: YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS; it recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport.
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC) and AV1. H.264 is a conservative choice for broad compatibility.
- Rate control: CBR.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Audio: AAC or MP3 are supported. YouTube’s recommended stereo audio settings are AAC, 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps.

Measure the connection before settling on a bitrate
Do not use an advertised BSNL download speed as a proxy for upload capacity. Test upload where the streaming computer will run, at different times if possible, and judge the stable rate rather than a single peak. OBS says dropped frames can mean the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Its troubleshooting guidance gives 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, not a promise of continuous stability. For a long-running stream, leave headroom for variation and other network use.
Begin at a conservative resolution, frame rate and bitrate. Run a private or unlisted preflight with motion and audio like the intended stream, then check OBS statistics and YouTube stream health. YouTube specifically advises testing with representative audio and movement and monitoring stream health and messages during the event. If either system reports trouble, lower the bitrate and repeat the preflight.

Account for BSNL circle, FUP and daily data use
BSNL plan names, allowances and post-FUP speeds vary by circle and plan. A Chennai Circle sheet marked updated 2025-10-01 lists these examples; they are not nationwide terms and may have changed, so verify your own circle’s current plan details with BSNL.

At a steady 1 Mbps, video payload alone is about 10.8 decimal GB per 24 hours (1 megabit per second × 86,400 seconds ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000), before protocol overhead or additional audio. At 5 Mbps, the same calculation is about 54 GB per day. These are unit conversions, not BSNL-published usage figures. Compare projected use with your plan’s FUP and establish what happens after it is reached.

Set up and preflight the 24/7 stream
- Check the plan: Confirm your BSNL circle’s current upload terms, FUP allowance and post-FUP speed with the provider.
- Measure upload at the streaming location: Test at different times and note the stable rate, not just the best result. Account for other household traffic.
- Configure OBS output: Choose H.264, CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. Select a resolution, frame rate and bitrate from YouTube’s H.264 guidance that your measured connection can sustain with headroom.
- Connect the YouTube stream: Use the stream key and ingest settings from YouTube’s live control room. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Run a representative private or unlisted test: Include the kind of motion and audio planned for the actual stream. Watch OBS statistics and YouTube stream health, and review any messages.
- Adjust one variable at a time: If dropped frames or poor stream health appear, lower bitrate first and retest. If problems persist, OBS recommends trying another server and checking whether network software is deprioritizing OBS; its troubleshooting page also discusses IPv4/IPv6 configuration. Revert changes that do not help.
- Start continuous operation only after the preflight holds up: A 24/7 label is not an availability guarantee. Plan for possible line outages, local Wi-Fi problems, router or computer restarts, power interruptions, encoder overload and platform-side interruptions.
