Leave that event’s YouTube server URL and stream key configured, then check the Live Control Room preview for the new picture and sound. Don’t end the event or create a replacement if you need to keep using its current link.
What stays the same—and what changes
The YouTube event is associated with the viewer-facing watch page. Your encoder sends the video feed to YouTube using the event’s server URL and stream key. To keep using the current event link, change the source in the connected encoder while the event remains active; the encoder controls the image and audio it sends. YouTube describes this encoder-and-event setup in its encoder setup guide.
The exact scene, input, or camera controls depend on the software or hardware encoder. YouTube does not prescribe one universal source-switching menu.
Switch the source during your live event
- Open the intended event. In YouTube Studio, open its Live Control Room and verify that it is the event whose URL you want to keep using.
- Keep the existing destination settings. In your encoder, leave the event’s YouTube server URL and stream key in place. The server URL tells the encoder where to send the feed; the key identifies the stream YouTube should receive. See Manage live stream settings.
- Choose the new source in the encoder. Select the scene, camera, capture input, or other source you want to send. If your encoder has a preview or a transition control, use it to check the change before it reaches viewers. The menu names and transition behavior are encoder-specific.
- Check YouTube’s preview. In the Live Control Room, confirm the intended picture, framing, and audio. YouTube recommends checking the preview and stream health when setting up and monitoring an encoder stream. See its encoder settings and testing guidance and live streaming tips.
- Monitor the outgoing feed. Keep an eye on audio, video, and stream health after the switch. A source can appear selected in the encoder while its signal is missing or its audio is routed incorrectly.
Choose a source that fits your setup
- Software scene: Switch scenes in the encoder when the sources are already configured there. This may require no additional hardware.
- Camera: Select the camera input your encoder can receive. Verify the camera signal and audio routing after switching.
- External video or capture input: Use the input supported by your encoder and production setup. A capture card or hardware switcher may be relevant for some setups, but neither is required for every source change.
For any of these, the key requirement is that the encoder continues sending to the same active event. Check the encoder’s own documentation for its specific source-switching controls.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Don’t confuse switching a source with reusing settings
YouTube’s Reuse settings option creates a new stream using copied metadata, settings, and stream key, with an opportunity to edit them. It is for setting up another event, not a command to switch the input of the event already in progress. The cited YouTube guidance does not promise that a new stream will retain the same viewer URL, so treat it as a separate event workflow. See YouTube’s description of stream settings and reuse.
Likewise, ending the current event and creating another one is a different workflow. YouTube describes scheduled streams as events that can be prepared and shared ahead of time, then started by connecting the encoder and going live in Live Control Room; that is not the same as changing the source while the existing event remains active. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

If the picture or connection fails after switching
- Preview is black or frozen: Confirm the intended source is active in the encoder and that it is receiving a signal. Then check the encoder’s preview or input status. Controls vary by encoder.
- Picture appears, but audio is missing or wrong: Check the selected audio source and routing in the encoder, then verify the result in YouTube’s preview.
- Encoder reports a connection error: Check that its server URL and stream key match the current event. YouTube recommends copying the stream key from Live Control Room into a third-party encoder when troubleshooting a start error. See Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.
- The key was reset: Update the key in the encoder before reconnecting. YouTube says channel owners or managers can reset a key; editors and viewers do not have that permission. See Manage live stream settings.
- You are unsure whether the feed is ready: Test the encoder setup ahead of the event, inspect the preview, and monitor stream health and audio/video. YouTube’s live streaming overview covers the general workflow.
