You can turn podcast episodes into an always-on YouTube radio stream by playing an ordered set of recordings through a live-stream encoder connected to YouTube Live. YouTube does not provide a podcast-radio switch: you need a local computer running the playback and encoder, dedicated streaming hardware, or a cloud service. Before you start, enable live streaming on your channel and confirm you have the rights to every recording, track, image, and contribution in the broadcast.
Choose how the stream will stay online
The key decision is what will keep the playlist and connection running continuously. YouTube documents software and hardware encoder workflows, lists Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded video, and lists AJA HELO Plus hardware with PlayToStream scheduling. These are optional routes, not requirements. The cited YouTube documentation does not establish their comparative reliability or current prices.
| Approach | What it does | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Local software encoder | Plays episodes and sends the live feed from your computer to YouTube. | The computer, playback process, internet connection, and encoder must keep operating for the stream to continue. |
| Cloud streaming service | Runs a prerecorded-video stream from a cloud service rather than relying on a local computer. | Check the service’s current plans, supported media, controls, and recovery behavior directly; the YouTube guide does not compare services or verify their current prices. |
| Dedicated hardware | Can encode and, in some cases, schedule prerecorded media. YouTube lists AJA HELO Plus and its PlayToStream feature. | It is specialized equipment, not a prerequisite for a basic podcast stream. Confirm the device’s current features and costs with its maker. |
If you want to do it yourself with a computer, the steps below cover the YouTube encoder workflow. They do not assume a particular encoder’s playlist features or menu labels: YouTube’s guide explains connecting an encoder, while playback controls depend on the software or hardware you choose.
Prepare the channel and episode playlist
Enable YouTube Live early
- In YouTube Studio, check the channel’s live-streaming status. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until the planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup guide.
- If the channel is not enabled, follow YouTube Studio’s prompts to activate live streaming and allow time for activation to complete.
Arrange episodes and visuals
Build an ordered playlist in the playback system you plan to use. Decide whether episodes should play once and stop, repeat in the same order, or return to the beginning after the final episode; confirm that your chosen encoder or service supports the behavior you need. Prepare a viewer-facing visual such as the current episode title and podcast artwork, and check that you have permission to use that artwork in a continuous YouTube broadcast.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the files and their order before going live. A playlist that contains a missing file, an unintended gap, or an episode you did not mean to replay can undermine the radio format even if the YouTube connection is working.
Create the live stream and connect an encoder
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create a live stream or schedule one for later. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe creating or scheduling the stream and connecting an encoder.
- In the stream’s encoder settings, copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key into the matching fields in your chosen encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: do not put it in a public playlist, video, screenshot, or shared document. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before streaming again.
- Set the encoder to play the prepared episode playlist and send its output to YouTube. The exact playback and encoding controls vary by product; follow that product’s current documentation rather than assuming every encoder has the same menu names.
- Use YouTube’s preview to check that the video appears and the audio is audible before starting the broadcast. Listen for silence, clipping, unexpected gaps, or the wrong episode, and verify the visual is legible on the intended viewing device.
- Start streaming from the encoder and confirm that YouTube receives the feed in Live Control Room. Keep the local computer and encoder operating if you chose the local-software route.
Check rights before broadcasting
Owning or distributing a podcast feed does not automatically establish that you can rebroadcast every element of every episode on YouTube. Check the rights for the complete recording, including guest contributions, music, sound effects, cover art, and other inserted material. The livestream terms say providers are responsible for having the rights needed for worldwide use on Google services, including necessary music licensing rights: YouTube livestream terms and conditions.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party copyrighted content. Its guidance says a live stream may be replaced with a placeholder, interrupted, or terminated when a match is detected. If you have a licence for content that is being matched, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID. A claim can also be made after a stream ends if the broadcast is archived. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Keep written records of licences and permissions, including their scope and duration. A permission to publish an episode in a podcast feed may not cover continuous live streaming, YouTube archiving, or use of the episode’s artwork.

Plan the archive and channel presentation
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guide does not promise one complete replay for a continuous stream longer than 12 hours, so do not plan on a longer broadcast producing a single intact archive. Decide whether a continuous radio feed or separate, clearly presented episode uploads better serves listeners who want to replay a specific show.
Label the live stream so viewers can understand that it is a repeating broadcast, and make the episode or playlist information easy to find. Streaming existing episodes continuously does not by itself guarantee monetization. YouTube reviews channels against its monetization policies, which apply to live streams and call for original, authentic content. Permission to use material and eligibility for monetization are separate questions; a channel may have rights yet still not meet monetization requirements. YouTube’s policy page notes that on July 15, 2025, it clarified the rule to cover repetitive or mass-produced content and renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content.” Read YouTube channel monetization policies.

Troubleshoot common interruptions
You cannot start a live stream
Check that the channel is verified, has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days, and has completed first-time activation. Activation may take up to 24 hours. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility information.
YouTube receives no encoder feed
Compare the stream URL and key in the encoder with the values shown for the selected stream in Live Control Room. Make sure the encoder is pointed at the intended scheduled or active stream and is actually sending output. If you suspect the key was exposed, reset it rather than continuing to use it.

The stream is interrupted or replaced
A third-party copyright match can trigger a placeholder, interruption, or termination. Review the matched material and your licence. If the content is licensed, ask the rights owner to allowlist the channel through Content ID, as described in YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
The stream stops when you leave
With a local software encoder, playback and transmission depend on the computer and its processes continuing to run. Check that the computer did not shut down or sleep and that the encoder and playback process remain active. If you do not want a general-purpose computer to operate the stream continuously, consider a cloud service or dedicated hardware instead.
