You can use a YouTube Live event to invite viewers to join your email list, but the stream itself will not enroll anyone. Offer a relevant resource or update, direct viewers to a clear signup form, and follow up only as promised and permitted. Make the link easy to find—and check how it works in the stream format and on the devices your audience uses.
Build a signup offer that belongs with the stream
Give viewers a concrete reason to subscribe that relates to what they came to watch. For a gaming stream, that might be a build or settings checklist, notes on a strategy discussed live, a related lesson, or a notification when the replay or next session is available. These are examples, not guaranteed conversion tactics.
On the signup page, explain what the viewer will receive. Be specific about the content and, if you know it, the sending frequency. Do not suggest that watching the stream automatically adds someone to the list; viewers should knowingly submit the form.
Make the signup page clear and direct
Link to the form itself rather than a general homepage that makes viewers search for it. Ask for the information you actually need, explain why you are collecting the email address, and make the signup action unmistakable. A short, readable URL is easier to type if a viewer cannot click the link.

Mailchimp says its signup forms record the submission date and time, and describes permission as express, verifiable consent. Form features and data handling can change, so check the current terms of whichever service you use. Mailchimp documents both single opt-in, where a person joins after submitting the form, and double opt-in, where the person confirms through a follow-up email. Which workflow is appropriate depends on your needs and the rules that apply; neither option should be treated as a universal legal answer.
Schedule and promote the YouTube Live event
Schedule the event early enough to share its watch page. YouTube recommends sharing the streaming link at least 48 hours before going live. Promote the event where your intended audience already follows you: for example, through connected social accounts or an embedded link on your website. YouTube also recommends featuring upcoming events in a channel’s Live section.

For a gaming stream, describe the specific session—not just that you will be live. Tell viewers what game or topic you will cover and what they can expect. Keep the signup offer relevant to that promise, so the email invitation feels like a useful next step rather than an unrelated interruption.
Put the signup link where viewers can use it
YouTube’s link behavior varies by live format and viewer surface. Its current link guidance says URLs in Live chat and channel descriptions are clickable for horizontal live streams. In the YouTube mobile app’s vertical live feed, URLs in Live chat and channel descriptions are non-clickable. Clickable external links require access to YouTube’s advanced features.

| Placement and format | Link behavior in YouTube’s guidance | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Horizontal Live: Live chat | URLs are clickable. | Post the signup page link in chat, subject to advanced-features access for clickable external links. |
| Horizontal Live: channel description | URLs are clickable. | Include the link and label the offer clearly. |
| Vertical live feed in the YouTube mobile app: Live chat or channel description | URLs are non-clickable. | Say the URL aloud and display it clearly, or direct viewers to a channel location where they can find it. |
Check the link on the actual format and device you plan to use before the broadcast. Platform surfaces and link rules can change. YouTube also prohibits external links that lead to content violating its Community Guidelines, including links shared in live streams. Use a legitimate signup destination and describe it accurately.
Invite viewers during the stream
- Explain the offer briefly. Say what the viewer will receive and how it relates to the stream.
- Give a precise direction. Tell viewers whether to use the link in chat, the channel description, or a URL shown or spoken during the broadcast.
- Make the invitation visible as well as audible. Display the signup URL or a short instruction on screen, and place the same instruction in an eligible chat or description location.
- Repeat the invitation at a natural moment. For example, mention it after covering the topic the resource supports. YouTube’s link guidance makes placement important, but available evidence does not establish an ideal repetition rate or a signup lift from repeating an invitation.
Do not interrupt every segment with a pitch. A clear, relevant invitation is more useful than implying that viewers need to subscribe to keep watching or receive something you did not promise.

Follow up with subscribers responsibly
Send what the signup page promised, such as the notes or checklist, and identify who is sending the email. Include a straightforward unsubscribe route for marketing messages. Keep the form’s wording, the email content, and the actual sending frequency consistent.
Permission rules depend on the people and circumstances involved; there is no single rule here that applies worldwide. UK Information Commissioner’s Office guidance generally requires specific consent for electronic mail marketing unless a defined soft opt-in applies, and requires a simple way to opt out. The US Federal Trade Commission’s CAN-SPAM guidance does not generally require prior consent, but does require an opt-out and prompt honoring of opt-outs. These are distinct regimes, and your obligations may depend on both your location and your recipients’ locations. Check the applicable rules for your situation rather than assuming one country’s guidance covers everyone.

YouTube recommends making public archives useful for future reach and organizing archives and highlights into playlists. A replay description can keep the signup invitation available to later viewers, subject to the same link behavior and YouTube policies. Confirm that the offer is still valid before leaving an old signup link in place.
Measure your own funnel instead of relying on a supposed industry conversion rate. Track visits to the signup page and completed submissions for each event, using a method that lets you distinguish one stream from another. YouTube has reported large platform-wide live audiences—for example, more than 600 million logged-in viewers on average watched live content, including archives, each day in August 2026—but that company-reported figure says nothing about how many viewers an individual creator will convert into email subscribers. The available sources do not establish a typical signup rate or guaranteed list growth from YouTube Live.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want an uploaded replay or other pre-recorded video to keep a YouTube channel live while you are away, StreamNeo is a separate option; it does not collect email addresses or replace the signup funnel above. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
