The title alone cannot identify the cause: your encoder might be running in an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) virtual machine, on a local computer, or somewhere else. The first step is to locate the encoder and establish whether the break is between that encoder and YouTube Live, within the stream itself, or only in viewers’ playback.
If OBS reports network-dropped frames or reconnects, investigate the outbound connection, its available upload capacity, and the YouTube ingest settings. Change OCI networking only if the stream actually passes through OCI. OBS describes dropped frames as evidence of an unstable or insufficient connection to the remote server (OBS troubleshooting guide).
First identify where the disconnect happens
“Disconnecting” can describe different failures. Note what you see rather than assuming that OCI is responsible:
- Encoder disconnect: OBS or another encoder reports dropped frames, loses its connection, or reconnects. This points toward the encoder-to-ingest delivery path, but does not identify whether the host, local network, ISP, route, or YouTube endpoint is at fault.
- YouTube loses the incoming feed: Live Control Room reports that the stream has stopped or its stream health has deteriorated. Compare its messages with the encoder’s status and logs.
- Only viewers have trouble: If the encoder remains connected and YouTube shows a healthy incoming feed, investigate playback separately. Viewer reports can vary by viewer network and by how many people are affected, so they do not alone establish an encoder disconnect.
Establish whether OBS or the other encoder runs on an OCI VM, a local computer, or another host. OCI VCN rules are relevant only if the stream traffic traverses that OCI network.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Capture evidence during the next interruption
Record the time of the failure and compare the encoder’s telemetry with YouTube’s status. A timeline is more useful than a guess based on the word “Oracle.”
- In OBS, open View > Stats and note network-dropped frames, output bitrate, and whether the connection reconnects. Menu labels can vary by OBS version.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, check stream health and the messages shown for the same time.
- Save the encoder log and note CPU load, especially if the picture or sound itself degrades before the connection fails.
- Record any VPN, firewall, route, or endpoint changes made before the event.
Rising network-dropped frames alongside a falling or erratic bitrate supports investigating the outbound path. A healthy encoder and incoming feed with viewer-only complaints points to a different branch. Neither pattern, by itself, proves a single root cause.

Check whether the sending connection has enough upload capacity
Measure sustained upload from the same host and network that sends the stream—not from a different device or location. Download speed does not establish whether the encoder can keep uploading. Compare the result with the stream’s total bitrate, and account for other streams, backups, cloud uploads, VPN overhead, and other people sharing the connection.
YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate; it also cautions that a shared connection can constrain an individual stream (YouTube streaming tips). This is a recommendation, not a guarantee against interruptions. If the connection cannot sustain the target with margin, lower the output bitrate or resolution and run another representative test.

Verify the YouTube stream URL, key, and protocol
- Open the intended event in YouTube Studio > Create > Go live and inspect its stream settings in Live Control Room.
- Confirm that the encoder uses the current server URL and stream key for that event. Do not assume a key or endpoint from an older event is still the intended one.
- Check that the encoder’s selected protocol matches YouTube’s displayed ingest settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS. If the encoder reports an SSL error, YouTube advises verifying that the protocol and server are set to
rtmps; port 443 is a setting to try where needed. For a connection timeout, check that the URL is correct and that the encoder supports RTMPS (YouTube encoder settings and troubleshooting).
Do not substitute an Oracle Streaming endpoint or port for the YouTube ingest URL shown in Live Control Room.
Inspect the network route that actually carries the stream
If the encoder runs in an OCI VM
Check that the VM has a working outbound internet route. Review host firewall rules, the OCI VCN security list or network security group applied to the VM, and any VPN or intermediary network on the path. Verify that the relevant outbound traffic is allowed under your configuration; do not open unrelated ports as a generic fix.

Oracle documents hanging-connection cases involving Path MTU Discovery and fragment handling in certain VCN-to-on-premises paths. Consider that possibility only if your traffic follows a matching architecture, not merely because the encoder is hosted in OCI (Oracle Streaming troubleshooting). Oracle Streaming is a separate service; its documented connectivity ports, including 443 and 9092 for its own API/SDK and Kafka use cases, are not universal YouTube ingest ports.
If the encoder runs on a local computer
OCI VCN security rules may not be on the stream’s route. Check the computer’s network, router and ISP path, VPN, and security software instead. OBS notes that VPN or security software can interfere with streaming. In OBS, keep IP binding at Default while troubleshooting. IPv4-only can be a diagnostic test; if it makes no difference, restore both IPv4 and IPv6 as OBS advises (OBS connection troubleshooting).

Check encoder settings and host load
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings as a compatibility check, not as proof that network bandwidth is adequate. Its published settings cover RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 and AV1, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Bitrate recommendations depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate; consult the live table and choose a setting the actual upload path can sustain (YouTube encoder settings).
- If the stream looks or sounds wrong inside the encoder, check source routing and encoder CPU load.
- If the local output is healthy but network-drop telemetry worsens, prioritize the upload, route, and ingest checks.
- Change one setting at a time and record the result so a test can distinguish causes rather than add new uncertainty.
Run a representative test and decide whom to contact
Before relying on the next broadcast, test with movement and audio similar to the planned stream, then monitor encoder statistics and YouTube stream health together. YouTube recommends a pre-stream test and reviewing its stream-health messages (YouTube streaming tips).
- If sustained upload from the encoder’s location is inadequate or unstable, contact the ISP or network administrator with test times and results.
- If an OCI-hosted encoder has a working route and the relevant firewall checks look correct but the failure persists, provide the appropriate support team with timestamps, logs, route details, and YouTube health messages.
- If YouTube identifies an endpoint or protocol error, share the exact message and the configured ingest settings with the encoder or platform support team.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps looping uploaded videos 24/7, rather than diagnosing an encoder you need to operate yourself, StreamNeo runs that stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded videos and YouTube streams, not a live camera encoder. Start the free day.
