1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA persistent YouTube stream key lets you reuse the same encoder credential for separate broadcasts. It does not keep one scheduled broadcast open indefinitely: schedule each event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, connect your encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and the selected key, then check the incoming preview and click Go live.
What persists—and what does not
A custom stream key is a reusable credential that tells your encoder where to send its feed and lets YouTube accept it. YouTube Help describes the key as the stream’s “password and address.” Treat it as secret: someone with the key can send content to the associated stream.
The scheduled broadcast is a separate event. You create or select it from the Live Control Room’s Manage tab; having a persistent key does not make one event recur or remain scheduled forever.
Create a reusable custom stream key
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Open the Stream tab.
- Choose Select stream key → Create new stream key, then create a custom key.
- Save the key securely. Enter it in your encoder’s stream-key field when configuring a broadcast.
YouTube Help’s Manage live stream settings says: “To reuse the same stream key, create a custom stream key.” The exact labels can vary by account or interface version.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Schedule a broadcast and connect the encoder
- In Live Control Room, open Manage and choose Schedule stream.
- Choose Reuse settings to copy an earlier stream’s metadata, settings and key, or choose Create new for a fresh configuration. YouTube says you can change reused settings after creating the new stream.
- At broadcast time, copy the YouTube stream URL into your encoder’s server or RTMP field, and put the selected stream key in its key field. The encoder needs both values.
- Start the encoder and wait for the incoming preview to appear in Live Control Room.
- Check the preview, then click Go live in Live Control Room to start the audience-facing broadcast.
- When finished, end the broadcast in YouTube and stop sending content from the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
Choose between a new stream and reused settings
| Choice | What it does | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Create new | Creates a new scheduled stream configuration. | You want to configure the event afresh rather than carry over an earlier setup. |
| Reuse settings | Copies a previous stream’s metadata, settings and key. You can edit the settings after creating the new stream. | You want the new event to use the earlier setup, including its key, and will review the copied details. |
These choices concern the scheduled event’s configuration. To keep the encoder credential reusable, create a custom key; to create the next event, use Manage → Schedule stream.
Prepare and test before broadcast time
- YouTube’s Streaming tips recommends setting up the encoder at least 2 hours before the event.
- Start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start, as YouTube recommends, so you have time to check the preview and troubleshoot. Starting the encoder early does not mean you need to start the audience-facing event early.
- Test the setup in advance and confirm that the event is accessible from the channel and watch pages. YouTube’s tips mention using public or unlisted tests; choose visibility appropriate to your test.
- Before each event, verify the stream URL and key in the encoder and confirm that the preview is receiving the intended feed before selecting Go live.
The 2-hour and 15-minute intervals are operational recommendations on YouTube Help’s undated Streaming tips page, accessed October 3, 2026; they are not guarantees that setup or troubleshooting will take a particular amount of time.

Pick an encoder that fits the production
This workflow requires an encoder, not necessarily a purchased hardware device. YouTube identifies software encoding programs as an option and says expensive equipment is not necessary to begin. It recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. Choose based on your production needs and the encoder you already use; the reusable-key workflow itself does not require buying dedicated hardware.
Troubleshoot common problems
- No incoming preview: Confirm that the encoder is sending to YouTube’s stream URL and that the selected key is in the key field. Start the encoder and allow time for the preview to appear before clicking Go live.
- The encoder connects, but the wrong event is selected: Check the scheduled stream in Manage. A reusable key does not select or create the scheduled event for you.
- You reused settings but need different event details: Open the new stream’s settings and edit them; YouTube says reused settings can be changed after the stream is created.
- The key may have been exposed or no longer works: Reset it in Live Control Room, then replace the old key in the encoder. YouTube says only a channel owner or manager can reset a key.
- The event has ended but the encoder is still sending: End the broadcast in YouTube, then stop the encoder, as YouTube’s encoder guidance instructs.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube channel rather than a scheduled event you start and end yourself, StreamNeo keeps uploaded videos running from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams uploads as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
