Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For a continuous YouTube Live property showcase, YouTube normally detects the incoming resolution and frame rate automatically. To choose them yourself, create a custom stream key in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, enable manual settings under Stream resolution, and match the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to a setting your venue’s upload connection can sustain. YouTube does not prescribe a real-estate-specific best resolution: choose the clearest stable feed your connection supports, rather than risking interruptions for extra detail.
Choose a resolution your connection can sustain
Resolution is only one part of the stream configuration. Higher resolutions and frame rates need different bitrates, and a nominal upload speed does not guarantee a stable live feed. Compare the desired image detail with the upload capacity available where you will stream. YouTube recommends checking upload speed and testing before the event; its documentation does not identify a best resolution for property interiors, exteriors, or low-light scenes. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
If a higher-resolution setting proves unreliable, use a lower setting that remains stable. This is an application of YouTube’s reliability guidance, not a special rule for real estate.
Set up resolution and encoder settings
- Prepare a live stream in YouTube Studio. Open Go Live and prepare the stream. YouTube’s encoder workflow provides a stream URL and stream key: the URL directs the encoder’s feed, and the key authorizes it.
- Choose automatic or manual resolution. Automatic detection of incoming resolution and frame rate is the default for streams using custom stream keys. If you need to set these manually, create a custom stream key and turn on manual settings under Stream resolution in Live Control Room.
- Match the encoder to YouTube’s supported settings. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1; up to 60 fps; constant bitrate (CBR); and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds.
- Set the bitrate for the incoming codec, resolution, and frame rate. Use the matching row in the table below. These are live encoder ingestion recommendations, not recommendations for uploading a prerecorded video.
- Run a realistic test and monitor the stream. Include audio and movement similar to the planned showcase, then watch stream health and messages during the event. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” YouTube Help.
YouTube’s recommended live ingestion bitrates
Values are Mbps. For each codec group, the table shows YouTube Help’s minimum and recommended bitrate for the incoming resolution and frame rate. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that an internet connection with the same nominal upload rate will be stable.

| Incoming resolution and frame rate | AV1/H.265 minimum | AV1/H.265 recommended | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2160p (4K) at 60 fps | 10 | 35 | 14 | 50 |
| 2160p (4K) at 30 fps | 8 | 30 | 11 | 42 |
| 1440p at 60 fps | 6 | 24 | 8 | 34 |
| 1440p at 30 fps | 5 | 15 | 7 | 21 |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 4 | 12 | 6 | 17 |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 4 | 10 | 5 | 14 |
| 720p at 60 fps | 2 | 6 | 3 | 8 |
| 720p at 30 fps | 2 | 6 | 3 | 8 |
| 480p at 30 fps | 0.3 | 3 | 0.4 | 4 |
| 360p at 30 fps | 0.3 | 3 | 0.4 | 4 |
For example, YouTube lists H.264 1080p at 30 fps as 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended; at 60 fps, it lists 6 Mbps minimum and 17 Mbps recommended. Select the row for what the encoder actually sends, not simply the resolution of the source recording. Full settings are in YouTube’s encoder guidance.
Plan for archives and viewers watching live
Continuous streaming has archive and DVR limits that are separate from resolution. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local recording as backup. Its archive guidance also says streams at 1440p and 2160p are automatically archived, but that does not remove the warning for streams longer than 12 hours. See YouTube Help: Archive live streams.

YouTube’s DVR feature lets viewers pause and rewind during a live stream, but may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers cannot seek back to before the stream began. YouTube Help: Use DVR on live streams.
If the replay matters, keep an independent local recording. Splitting the showcase into shorter sessions is one operational option to reduce reliance on long-stream archive and DVR behavior; it is a planning inference from YouTube’s stated limits, not a YouTube requirement.

Troubleshoot resolution and stream stability
- The stream uses a different resolution than expected: YouTube detects incoming resolution and frame rate automatically by default. If you need manual control, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream resolution; also verify the encoder’s output setting.
- The encoder reports poor stream health or the feed is unstable: Check the bitrate against the matching codec, resolution, and frame-rate row. Test the venue’s upload connection and consider a lower resolution or frame rate if the connection cannot sustain the chosen setting.
- The video looks uneven or motion is not represented well: Test with movement and audio similar to the actual showcase. Verify the encoder uses CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds, then monitor YouTube’s stream health and messages.
- The replay is missing or viewers cannot rewind far: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be archived, and DVR may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. Retain a local recording if you need a dependable copy.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your showcase is prerecorded video rather than a camera feed, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos to a YouTube channel from the cloud. Upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the upload at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly plan is $9.99 per month. Start the free StreamNeo day.
