HandBrake prepares the video files; it does not send the live stream to YouTube. For a broadly compatible starting point, use HandBrake’s Web > Creator preset at the source’s actual resolution and frame rate. Then configure the separate live encoder for YouTube’s current ingest settings: H.264, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and the bitrate YouTube recommends for your chosen resolution and frame rate. There is no India-specific HandBrake preset or national bandwidth target established by YouTube.
What HandBrake settings control—and what they do not
HandBrake converts prerecorded files for your playlist. A separate live encoder or cloud service reads those files and sends the continuous feed to YouTube. HandBrake’s quality or bitrate setting determines how the file is encoded; it does not set the live stream’s ingest bitrate or keyframe interval.
For a straightforward compatibility-first workflow, use MP4 with H.264 video and AAC stereo audio. YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingest, but the whole playback and encoder chain must support the codec you choose. YouTube transcodes live video for viewers, but a reliable upload path is still needed to deliver the incoming feed. YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance lists supported ingest formats and current recommendations.
HandBrake settings for the playlist files
Start with Web > Creator
In HandBrake, open a source video and select a Web > Creator preset at a resolution appropriate to that source. The official Creator presets use MP4, H.264, and AAC stereo across their listed resolutions; they are intended for video-hosting uploads, not live transmission. Choose a frame rate that matches the source rather than increasing it just to reach a larger number. Avoid upscaling lower-resolution footage: it creates a larger frame, not additional source detail. Do not treat one RF value as universally best
There is no single constant-quality RF number that suits every source. HandBrake’s encoder preset choices trade off encoding speed, quality, and file size, and changing the encoder preset may require revisiting quality or bitrate controls. Make a short test encode using representative gameplay or other playlist footage. Check fine detail, fast motion, gradients, and audio before applying the settings to a full batch. HandBrake explains these trade-offs in its video encoder presets and tunes documentation.
Keep the source properties in view
- Resolution: Choose the source’s native resolution or a lower one if file size or upload capacity requires it; do not upscale as a quality fix.
- Frame rate: Match the source where practical. Mixed playlists may contain different frame rates, so inspect files individually rather than forcing every file to a higher rate.
- Audio: AAC stereo is a practical default for the prepared assets. Confirm that the encode preserves the intended channels and that levels are intelligible.
- Test before batch processing: Include representative movement and sound; an encode that looks fine on a static screen may reveal artifacts during gameplay or animation.
Configure the live encoder separately
Use the encoder that plays the prepared files and transmits them to YouTube—not HandBrake—to set the live feed. YouTube’s current guidance for RTMP/RTMPS calls for CBR and recommends a two-second keyframe frequency, which should not exceed four seconds. Set codec, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate as a matching set using YouTube’s current table for the selected format. The table can change, so check it when configuring the stream.

These are YouTube service recommendations, not HandBrake file bitrates and not guaranteed minimum connection speeds. For other frame rates, resolutions, or codecs, consult the matching row in YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table rather than extrapolating from the two examples above.
Audio and color
YouTube’s advanced encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3 stereo, 44.1 kHz sample rate, and 128 kbps stereo audio. For SDR, it lists Rec. 709 and 8-bit. Match the live encoder to the audio and video you have prepared, and avoid selecting HDR or other color settings unless the content and complete pipeline support them.

Connect the encoder to YouTube and test the feed
- Enable live streaming on the channel. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup instructions; enable it ahead of the planned start.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Follow YouTube’s current flow for creating a live stream with an encoder, then locate the stream URL and stream key.
- Enter the stream URL and key in the live encoder. Keep the key private: it authorizes an encoder to send video to the associated stream. Use the correct key for the stream you selected.
- Run a representative test. Include the actual kind of motion and audio found in the playlist. Check YouTube’s stream health and read any encoder or Studio messages before relying on the setup.
- Test the real upload connection. YouTube advises choosing a quality reliable for the available connection and running an upload speed test. Test from the location and connection that will carry the stream; do not assume a single speed target applies to every Indian household or network.
For a physical setup, a UPS for the streaming computer and router may help maintain continuity during a power interruption. That is a practical reliability measure, not a YouTube requirement, and it cannot compensate for an unstable internet connection.
Plan session length and archive reliability
YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours and warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. If a dependable archive matters, divide a 24/7 schedule into sessions shorter than 12 hours and retain a local recording. YouTube also notes that DVR may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours; tell viewers about rewind limitations when relevant. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.

Clear rights before putting a playlist on loop
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may cause the platform to replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it if the matched content remains. A license by itself may not prevent interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. YouTube’s live-stream terms also put responsibility on the content provider for worldwide exploitation rights and applicable territorial compliance. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and its applicable livestream terms before scheduling music, gameplay footage, or other material you do not wholly control.
