If you aren’t receiving gifted memberships, first check that you’re opted in on the right account and channel. YouTube says recipients must use a YouTube channel that isn’t a Brand Account, be subscribed to the channel, have interacted with it recently, and not already be a member there. Opting in makes you eligible; it does not guarantee you’ll be selected. See YouTube’s gifted membership eligibility guidance.
Check your account and eligibility
Gift eligibility is tied to your account’s relationship with the channel. YouTube’s guidance says you need to be signed in to a YouTube channel that is not a Brand Account, subscribed to the channel, and recently active with it. Existing members of that channel are not currently eligible to receive its gifted memberships.
- Confirm the signed-in account. Make sure you’re watching and opting in with the intended YouTube channel, and that it isn’t a Brand Account.
- Check your channel relationship. Subscribe to the channel and interact with it recently. YouTube does not define a guaranteed amount or kind of interaction on the guidance page.
- Check whether you already belong. If you’re already a member of that channel, you can’t receive another gift membership for it under the current guidance.
Turn on Allow Gifts—and check its scope
Opt-in is required. You can enable it from eligible live chat, or through the channel’s membership controls. YouTube describes the following routes in its membership-promotion guidance:
- In an eligible live chat, select Allow Gifts or the pinned membership-gifting control, then turn on the switch.
- Alternatively, select Join on the channel or a watch page, open More, choose Gift Settings, and enable Allow gifts.
Check whether you opted in only for a particular channel. YouTube says a channel-specific opt-in may not qualify you for gifts from other channels; enable global opt-in if you want to be eligible elsewhere too. If you want gifts from one channel, confirm that channel’s setting is on rather than assuming an earlier opt-in applies everywhere.

Watch on YouTube, not an embedded player
Open the stream’s YouTube watch page. YouTube says Live Chat is available on watch pages, not in embedded players; an embedded stream may show the video without the chat controls needed to opt in or see a chat notice. See YouTube’s live-stream guidance.
Know which announcement you’re looking for
The buyer’s purchase ticker and a recipient’s notification are different things. The purchase ticker appears in chat only for a limited time. Its disappearance—or the stream or chat ending before it appears—does not prove gifts were not distributed.

If YouTube selects you for a one-month gift, it says you’ll receive a separate notification in live chat and an email to the account associated with YouTube. Check both. The purchase ticker is not confirmation that you personally received a gift, and not seeing it is not confirmation that no one received one.
Confirm whether a gift was added
A selected gift membership is non-recurring and lasts for up to one month. To check the benefits attached to a membership, YouTube directs viewers to the channel’s Memberships tab or See perks on a video page. Its membership-benefits guidance explains where to view them.

If you’re a creator replying to viewers
Share the channel-specific Allow Gifts link from YouTube’s membership-promotion guidance and ask viewers to check that the setting is enabled. YouTube says viewers opted in for that channel are eligible for current and future gifts there. They still need to meet the other eligibility conditions, and eligibility does not mean they will be chosen.
If the purchase ticker vanished, explain that it is temporary and that gifts may still be distributed even if the stream or chat ends before the announcement appears. Avoid promising that a particular viewer will receive a gift: YouTube’s public guidance does not let a creator verify an individual viewer’s eligibility or selection from the ticker alone.

What creators should know about keeping a stream live
