You can loop a rights-cleared Kannada music video from a Linux VPS into YouTube Live with FFmpeg. The VPS sends the feed; YouTube provides the ingest URL and stream key. A loop alone does not guarantee an uninterrupted station: you also need the necessary music rights, a stable server connection, process supervision, and checks in YouTube Live Control Room.
Before you start: clear the music rights
FFmpeg does not grant permission to stream songs. Before uploading or broadcasting, confirm that you have rights for every track and visual, in the relevant territories, for livestreaming and any archive or video-on-demand copy you intend to retain. Keep written evidence of those permissions. If a rights holder uses Content ID, ask whether your channel must be allowlisted.
YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility for necessary rights on the provider, including music licensing rights: YouTube Livestream terms and conditions. YouTube also warns that a live stream can be interrupted when it detects third-party content, including content that is licensed but whose rights holder has not allowlisted the channel: YouTube guidance on live-stream copyright. A purchase, an online “free” label, or an attribution line does not by itself establish livestream or archive rights. No particular Kannada song catalogue or license is established here; check with the rights holder.
Prepare a continuous media file
For a straightforward setup, make one pre-rendered video from the authorized playlist and a still or looping visual. This keeps the audio and picture in a single input, avoiding the extra synchronization and recovery work involved in combining separate audio files and a visual at stream time.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Arrange only media you are permitted to use, in the intended track order.
- Combine the playlist with a still image or looping visual and render a compatible video file. Choose the output resolution and frame rate to match the YouTube ingest settings you plan to use.
- Play the rendered file from beginning to end and check the audio, picture, transitions, and final seconds. Resolve broken or missing media before putting the file into an indefinite loop.
- Upload the file to a location on the VPS, for example
/path/to/rights-cleared-loop.mp4, and confirm the FFmpeg user can read it.
This single-file approach is a practical simplification, not a benchmarked claim that it is best for every station. A playlist assembled from separate files can make track changes or fades easier to manage, but creates more opportunities for a missing file or timing issue. Test your chosen workflow before relying on it.
Create the YouTube Live stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream, then use the stream’s encoder settings to obtain its server URL and stream key. YouTube’s interface and available ingest options can vary by account; use the values and instructions shown for your stream. See YouTube’s guide to creating a live stream with an encoder.
- Keep the URL and key private. Do not put a real key in a tutorial, public repository, shared command, shell history, or publicly readable log. Store it in a root-readable configuration or environment file, or another secret mechanism suitable for your server. If you believe the key has been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder configuration.
- For a scheduled stream, start the encoder and wait for the preview and health indicators in Live Control Room. Use Studio’s control to go live when the scheduled setup requires it; sending data to the ingest server does not necessarily mean the public broadcast has started.
Choose settings that match your stream
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingest and publishes settings by codec, resolution, and frame rate. Its current guidance includes H.264, H.265, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval. Check the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrates for the exact output you choose.

For H.264, YouTube’s table recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p30, 6 Mbps for 720p30, and 3 Mbps for 480p30. These are platform recommendations, not measurements of your VPS connection. The appropriate rate differs with resolution, frame rate, and codec; do not treat one bitrate as universal.
- Resolution and frame rate: Pick an output your source, encoder, and VPS can sustain. For a static visual with music, a high frame rate may not be useful; choose based on the actual video and the stream configuration.
- Video bitrate: Use the matching YouTube recommendation for your chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate. Set the VPS upload capacity comfortably above the stream’s sustained output and test the route from the server.
- Keyframes: Use a two-second interval as YouTube recommends. At 30 fps, the illustrative command below uses a GOP of 60 frames.
- Audio: The example uses AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz; verify the audio format and bitrate against the current YouTube guidance and the source material.
- FFmpeg build: Available encoders and options depend on how FFmpeg was built. Check the installed version and encoders before using a command that specifies
libx264.
Start a test stream with FFmpeg
The following is an illustrative starting command for a compatible single-file source, not a certified production recipe. Its 4.5 Mbps H.264 setting is not one of the quoted YouTube recommendation examples above; select a value appropriate to the resolution and frame rate you actually configure. Replace the example ingest URL and key with the exact values shown in Live Control Room.

Consult the FFmpeg documentation for the options supported by your installed build. Start with a private or unlisted test if suitable, inspect Live Control Room’s preview and stream health, and confirm that both audio and video are arriving before making the broadcast public.
Keep the VPS process running and detect failures
A terminal session is not a reliability plan. Run FFmpeg under a process supervisor such as systemd or another service manager, configure a restart policy, and ensure logs rotate rather than filling the VPS disk. Supervision can restart a failed process, but it cannot prove YouTube’s broadcast remained healthy or that a reconnect succeeded.

- Monitor process status, CPU use, disk space, and network upload from the VPS.
- Set alerts for a stopped process, sustained resource pressure, or loss of connectivity.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room after startup and after any restart; verify the preview and health indicators rather than relying only on a running FFmpeg process.
- Test recovery deliberately before depending on the station. VPS or route outages, account restrictions, an invalid key, and YouTube ingest interruptions require different fixes.
The required CPU, RAM, VPS plan, monthly bandwidth charge, and achievable uptime depend on the source, encoding load, provider, and network route. No single VPS size or continuous-service guarantee follows from this example. Measure your actual server under the chosen settings.

A continuously looping live feed does not ensure a complete YouTube archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance. If retaining the broadcast matters, schedule shorter sessions where appropriate and keep a separate local recording or archive backup. YouTube does not prescribe a particular storage device or capacity.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg cannot connect or YouTube receives no feed | Wrong ingest URL or key, an exposed/reset key that has not been replaced, or a network connection problem. | Copy the current URL and key from the correct Live Control Room stream, verify the VPS can reach the ingest service, and keep the key secret. Check FFmpeg output and Studio’s preview. |
| FFmpeg exits with an encoder error | The installed build lacks the requested encoder, such as libx264. |
Inspect the installed FFmpeg version and available encoders; install or select a build with a compatible encoder, or adjust the command to an encoder available on that system. |
| Stream health shows unstable or dropped frames | The VPS route cannot sustain the selected output, or server resources are constrained. | Measure upload capacity from the VPS, check CPU and network use, and lower the output settings to an appropriate YouTube-listed configuration if needed. |
| The preview has no audio, or audio/video is out of sync | The rendered source has a problem, or its streams are not compatible with the output settings. | Test the source file locally, inspect FFmpeg’s input and output messages, and render a corrected single-file source before restarting the broadcast. |
| The process is running but the public stream is offline | The scheduled stream may still need Studio’s go-live action, or YouTube ingest/account status may be preventing broadcast. | Check the Live Control Room preview, health, and stream status; complete the Studio action shown for the scheduled stream and review any account notices. |
| The broadcast is interrupted after music begins | A rights claim, Content ID detection, or missing allowlisting may have interrupted the stream. | Review YouTube’s notices and resolve the rights issue with the relevant rights holder. Do not repeatedly restart content you are not authorized to stream. |
| The FFmpeg process restarts but there is still an outage | A restart policy only supervises the process; reconnecting and YouTube capture are separate conditions. | Confirm that FFmpeg reconnected, then verify the YouTube preview and health in Studio. Alert on both server-side process failure and stream-side status. |
