If OBS keeps replaying one video, check the source type and the playlist entries first. Media Source is for an individual file; VLC Video Source supports playlists. In VLC Video Source properties, confirm every video is listed as a separate entry, then enable Loop Playlist if you want the list to start over when it finishes. Looping cannot add files that are missing from the playlist.
Why OBS repeats one video
The most common configuration to check is whether the source is a Media Source instead of a VLC Video Source, or whether the VLC playlist contains only one entry. These are separate issues: the source type determines whether you have playlist playback, while the entries determine which media can play.
OBS documents Media Source as a source for individual media files and VLC Video Source as the playlist-capable option. The latter requires VLC to be installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, OBS specifies that you need 64-bit VLC. OBS Media Sources documentation
Fix the source and playlist
- Check the source type. In the relevant scene, select the source that is repeating and open its properties. If it is a Media Source, it is configured around one local file. Add or edit a VLC Video Source for playlist playback, then configure the intended media there.
- Inspect the playlist entries. In VLC Video Source properties, check that each intended video appears as its own item. A folder existing on your computer does not by itself establish that all of its contents are separate entries in the source playlist.
- Check for playlist documents. If you added files such as
.xspfplaylist files rather than the videos themselves, inspect what the VLC Video Source actually lists and plays. A specific OBS issue report described one.xspffile repeating after a directory of.xspffiles was added. That report concerned OBS 27.2.4 on Windows 10; it is a case-specific report, not proof that folders or XSPF files always fail. OBS issue #6513 - Set end behavior and order. Enable Loop Playlist to restart the list after it runs out of media files. Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want playback order randomized; it changes order, not playlist membership. OBS documentation lists loop enabled and shuffle disabled as defaults, but check the properties in your own setup rather than relying on defaults.
- Confirm VLC installation and architecture. VLC must be installed for VLC Video Source to appear. If OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC as well.
What the playlist settings do

- The exact entries shown in the VLC Video Source playlist, including whether they are video files or playlist documents such as
.xspf. - Whether Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist are enabled.
- Whether VLC is installed and, for 64-bit OBS, whether the VLC installation is also 64-bit.
The cited XSPF report was closed as not planned, but it documents only that particular setup and does not establish the cause of other playlist problems. OBS issue #6513
