RadioDJ handles playlist automation; YouTube’s Live Control Room supplies the server URL and stream key the encoder needs. The RadioDJ documentation reviewed here describes AutoDJ and Windows audio support, but not a native YouTube Live output.
What you need before you start
- A Windows PC that can run RadioDJ and remain powered on and connected to the internet for the hours you want to broadcast.
- A configured RadioDJ library and rotation rules, plus an encoder that can send audio to YouTube Live.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming available and music rights for everything you plan to play.
RadioDJ’s feature page lists Windows 10 and Windows 11, a baseline 1 GHz CPU and 8 GB RAM, and .NET Framework 4.8 for RadioDJ v2+. Its home page separately says .NET Framework 4.7+ for v2, so check the requirement for the specific version you install. These are the publisher’s stated baseline requirements, not a guarantee that every PC will perform reliably under every workload. RadioDJ feature list · RadioDJ home page
Set up RadioDJ’s 24/7 playlist
- Install RadioDJ and add your music library. Organize tracks into categories, subcategories or genres that match the station you want to run.
- Configure rotation rules. RadioDJ’s AutoDJ builds its playlist from your configured rotation rules. The feature list describes rotation by category, subcategory and genre, rules to avoid repeating a track, artist or album within a selected interval, scheduled events, and manual or automatic playlist advance. - Enable AutoDJ and check the playback mode. The FAQ distinguishes automated mode, which plays files through the playlist, from assisted mode, which stops after each file. Use automated mode for continuous unattended playback, and verify that tracks advance as expected before connecting YouTube.
- Test the station locally. Confirm that AutoDJ advances through the rotation and that the intended audio is audible from the Windows playback device you will use for the encoder.
Route RadioDJ audio through an encoder to YouTube
The practical arrangement is RadioDJ playback on a Windows audio device, with a separate encoder capturing that output and transmitting it to YouTube. The precise capture device and routing steps depend on the encoder and Windows audio configuration; the official RadioDJ and YouTube instructions cited here do not prescribe one universal device setup.
- Choose and configure an encoder. Set it to capture the Windows device that plays RadioDJ. Start RadioDJ playback and confirm that the encoder’s audio meter responds and the encoder preview contains the expected sound before broadcasting.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and follow YouTube’s encoder setup flow. Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube’s guide covers the URL-and-key workflow. YouTube encoder instructions
- Protect the stream key. Treat it as a secret: anyone who obtains it may be able to send content to your channel. Do not publish it or include it in a public screenshot.
- Start the encoder and inspect YouTube’s preview and status. Check that the preview shows the expected audio and that YouTube indicates the incoming stream is healthy before making the broadcast public or starting the scheduled event.
- Schedule the broadcast if useful. YouTube’s Live Control Room supports scheduling, which can create a watch page and allow reminders ahead of the event. Follow the current Studio prompts for scheduling and visibility. YouTube encoder instructions
RadioDJ’s FAQ discusses third-party encoders for Shoutcast and Icecast and says those server types are not directly available in RadioDJ. That is not confirmation that any particular encoder is officially supported for YouTube; check the encoder’s own documentation for its YouTube configuration and Windows audio-capture options. Plan around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not count on one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast being saved as one video. If you need archives, plan separate sessions shorter than 12 hours and confirm current archive behavior in YouTube Studio. YouTube encoder instructions
YouTube’s Live API documentation distinguishes a broadcast, a distinct video, from a stream, the transmission settings and content feed. It also documents a continuous live-feed scenario; that API material provides context but is not required for this basic encoder setup. YouTube Live API guide

Clear music rights before broadcasting
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can replace the live video with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube also warns that licensed third-party content can still be interrupted if the rights holder has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Owning a copy of a song or having a general license does not, by itself, establish that YouTube will let the live broadcast continue uninterrupted. Confirm that your permissions cover this use and ask the relevant rights holder about Content ID allowlisting where appropriate. YouTube copyright guidance
YouTube says live-stream monetization is available to channels in the YouTube Partner Program. Whether a particular channel qualifies depends on that channel’s eligibility; RadioDJ itself does not establish monetization eligibility.

Choose where the station runs

RadioDJ’s published requirements provide a baseline, not a benchmark of encoder load or a guarantee of 24/7 reliability. Choose based on the machine you have, whether it can remain available, how simply you can route its audio, and how you will recover after power, software or network interruptions. Troubleshoot common problems
- The encoder meter does not move. Check that RadioDJ is playing, then confirm the encoder is capturing the same Windows audio device RadioDJ uses. Exact device labels and routing depend on your encoder and Windows setup.
- YouTube receives a stream but the preview is silent. Compare the encoder’s selected audio input with the device showing activity in Windows, and recheck the encoder preview before going live.
- The playlist stops between tracks. Check that AutoDJ is enabled, the rotation rules can select available tracks, and RadioDJ is in automated rather than assisted mode. The FAQ says assisted mode stops after each file. RadioDJ FAQ
- YouTube does not show the incoming stream. Verify the server URL and stream key copied from the current Live Control Room stream, and check that the encoder is running and connected. Keep the key private while correcting it. YouTube encoder instructions
- The broadcast is interrupted after music starts. Review YouTube’s copyright notice and resolve rights or Content ID allowlisting with the rights holder. A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. YouTube copyright guidance
- The 24-hour session is missing as a single archive. YouTube’s stated automatic archive behavior applies to streams under 12 hours; schedule shorter sessions if preserving separate archives matters. YouTube encoder instructions
