How to Convert 4K 30fps Video to 60fps for a YouTube Live Loop

How to interpolate 4K/30 footage to 60 fps, loop it in OBS, and set YouTube Live output for 4K/60—plus what to check before going live.

To turn 4K footage recorded at 30 frames per second into a 60-fps YouTube Live loop, use frame interpolation to generate intermediate frames, inspect the result for artifacts, then loop the exported file in a streaming encoder configured for 4K at 60 fps. Simply changing the frame-rate label does not create new motion detail. Interpolation estimates what might have happened between captured frames, and can distort difficult movement.

What converting 30 fps to 60 fps actually does

A 30-fps video contains 30 captured frames per second. A 60-fps version needs 60 frames per second at normal playback speed, so a frame-interpolation method estimates and creates the frames between those that were recorded. It does not recover motion detail the camera never captured. Topaz describes interpolation as motion estimation and notes that drastic changes between frames limit the motion it can create (Topaz frame interpolation documentation).

There are two separate choices: how to create the 60-fps file, and whether your live encoder should send that file to YouTube at 4K/60. You can preserve the original 4K dimensions and choose 60 fps for the output; the encoder’s output settings still need to be configured deliberately.

Convert the 4K source to 60 fps

Choose an interpolation method

Use a video editor or frame-interpolation application that can keep the source at 3840 × 2160 while exporting at 60 fps. For example, Topaz Video documents a “Convert to 60 FPS” preset with frame interpolation enabled and Chronos Fast selected by default. It also documents a separate preset combining 4K output and 60 fps. Interface names and defaults may change, so consult the current Topaz Video documentation.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

DaVinci Resolve offers Nearest, Frame Blend and Optical Flow retiming methods. Optical Flow estimates motion to generate frames and can look smooth when motion is unobstructed. Blackmagic’s Resolve 18 guide warns it can stretch or tear around crossing elements or erratic camera movement; the process is processor-intensive and may need caching (DaVinci Resolve 18 Editors Guide). Resolve 18 documentation does not necessarily describe the current interface for later versions.

Render and review before processing the full video

  1. Open the original 4K/30-fps file in your chosen application.
  2. Keep its 3840 × 2160 dimensions and intended playback duration. Set the export frame rate to 60 fps and enable frame interpolation, or a retiming mode that generates frames.
  3. If render time or compute cost matters, export a short representative section first.
  4. Review the test both at normal speed and frame by frame. Pay special attention to fast movement, crossing objects or limbs, occlusions and camera motion. Look for warping, tearing, ghosting or unnatural edges.
  5. If the generated frames look wrong, try another interpolation method or model, reduce the processing, or keep the original at 30 fps. Judge the actual footage rather than relying on a preset name.
  6. Check audio after export. Topaz’s documented interpolation enhancement is video-only and removes audio; if using it, replace or remux the source audio as a separate step when needed (Topaz frame interpolation documentation).

Make the video repeat in OBS

  1. In OBS, add a Media Source and select the exported video file. OBS lists MP4, MOV, MKV and other supported formats.
  2. In the Media Source properties, enable Loop. OBS documents that this setting restarts the file after playback finishes; it is off by default (OBS Media Sources documentation).
  3. Preview the end-to-start transition. Looping restarts playback, but it does not make mismatched last and first frames visually seamless. If the picture or audio jumps, edit the boundary or choose an in/out point that transitions naturally.

Set the YouTube Live output for 4K/60

The file’s frame rate does not automatically determine the live stream’s frame rate. Set your streaming software’s output resolution to 3840 × 2160 and its frame rate to 60 fps if you want to send 4K/60. Confirm the labels and available settings in your chosen software against YouTube’s latest live encoder recommendations.

YouTube output Recommended H.264 bitrate
4K / 2160p at 60 fps 35 Mbps
4K / 2160p at 30 fps 30 Mbps

These are YouTube Help’s recommended H.264 bitrates, accessed in 2026; the same table lists AV1/H.265 minimum and maximum settings of 10 and 40 Mbps for 4K/60, and 8 and 35 Mbps for 4K/30. The H.264 recommendations are a useful reference when setting the encoder, not a substitute for checking that your sustained upload capacity can support the stream. YouTube also specifies support for H.264, H.265 and AV1, frame rates up to 60 fps, CBR, a recommended two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds), and RTMP/RTMPS ingestion. YouTube recommends RTMPS.

  • Latency: YouTube states that 4K streams cannot use the “improve for low latency” option and are set to normal latency.
  • Testing: Test a representative section with the intended motion and audio, then monitor stream health before relying on the loop.
  • Choosing 30 or 60 fps: Use 4K/60 when the interpolation looks acceptable and your upload can sustain the higher recommended H.264 bitrate. YouTube’s H.264 recommendation is 35 Mbps for 4K/60 versus 30 Mbps for 4K/30.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • The 60-fps export looks no smoother than the original: Check that frame interpolation or a frame-generating retiming mode was enabled. Changing only the file’s frame-rate label does not create intermediate motion.
  • Moving objects warp, split or leave trails: These are interpolation artifacts, especially around occlusions, crossing elements or erratic camera motion. Test another method or model, reduce processing, or stay at 30 fps.
  • The exported video has no sound: Some interpolation workflows remove audio. Restore the source audio in the editor or remux it into the rendered file, then check sync before going live.
  • The video stops instead of repeating: Verify that the OBS source is a Media Source and that its Loop property is enabled.
  • Viewers see a jump at each repeat: Adjust the edit or loop boundary so the end and beginning transition more naturally; the Loop setting only restarts playback.
  • The live stream is not 4K/60: Check the streaming software’s output resolution and frame rate as well as the source file. A 4K/60 file alone does not set the encoder output.
  • The stream is unstable: Check sustained upload capacity against the selected bitrate, verify the current YouTube encoder settings, run another test, and monitor stream health.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want a 24/7 YouTube loop without leaving OBS or a computer running at home, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload the rendered 60-fps file, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera or to other platforms.
