How to Loop Recorded Fortnite Matches on YouTube Live with VLC

Use OBS and VLC to loop one or more recorded Fortnite matches on YouTube Live, with setup steps, stream settings, eligibility checks, and fixes.

To loop a recorded Fortnite match on YouTube Live, use OBS Studio to send the video to YouTube and VLC to provide playlist playback: add OBS’s VLC Video source, create a playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. For a single video, OBS’s built-in Media Source can loop the file without VLC. In either setup, OBS is the encoder; YouTube receives its stream using the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.

What you need before setting up the loop

  • A locally playable recording of your Fortnite match. The steps below stream a video file; they do not stream live gameplay from a camera or capture device.
  • OBS Studio, which encodes and sends the video to YouTube Live.
  • VLC installed if you want to use OBS’s VLC Video source. Match the VLC and OBS architectures: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
  • A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming, with access to its Live Control Room.

Fortnite’s Replay feature can help with reviewing matches and making captures. Epic’s documentation specifically describes enabling Record Creative Replays for Creative islands; it does not establish that replay capture or export works identically in every mode or on every platform. Make sure you have a playable video file before following the OBS steps. Epic’s Fortnite Replay documentation covers the feature.

Choose VLC or OBS Media Source

Option Best for Loop control Requirement
OBS Media Source Repeating one video file Enable Loop in the source properties No VLC requirement; OBS supports common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM
OBS VLC Video Repeating a playlist of clips Add the files to a playlist and enable Loop Playlist VLC must be installed; use 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS

Choose VLC when you want several matches to play in sequence. Choose Media Source for the simplest single-file repeat. OBS documents both source options and their looping controls in its Media Sources guide.

How to loop a Fortnite match with VLC in OBS

  1. Install VLC and OBS Studio. Make sure their architectures match. Open OBS and create or select the scene that will contain the match footage.
  2. Add a VLC Video source. In the scene’s Sources box, select +, choose VLC Video, and create the source. If VLC Video is unavailable, check that VLC is installed and that its 32-bit or 64-bit version matches OBS.
  3. Build the playlist. In the source properties, add the Fortnite recording or recordings to the playlist. Arrange multiple files in the order you want them played.
  4. Enable the repeat. Turn on Loop Playlist in the VLC Video source properties. Check that the first clip appears in the OBS preview and that the playlist order is correct.
  5. Fit the video to the scene. Select the source in the preview and resize or use OBS’s transform controls so the recording fits the canvas. Check for black bars, cropping, or empty space before streaming.
  6. Check audio. Play a representative section and watch OBS’s audio meters. Confirm the game audio is audible at a sensible level and that unwanted desktop or microphone audio is not being sent.

For just one file, use Sources > + > Media Source, select the local video, and enable Loop in its properties instead. OBS describes that option as restarting the file when playback completes; the VLC source is useful when the repeating unit is a playlist rather than a single file.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Check channel eligibility first. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave setup until the broadcast is due. YouTube also says streamers must be at least 16 years old. Check the current YouTube live streaming tips and encoder setup guidance for your account.
  2. Create or select an encoder stream. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or select the stream you intend to use. YouTube explains that an encoder converts video into a digital format for streaming.
  3. Copy the ingest details. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream and enter the YouTube server/URL and key in the corresponding fields. Keep the key private; if it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room. See YouTube’s live stream settings guide.
  4. Set the output for your connection. YouTube recommends RTMPS and common encoder settings including H.264 video, CBR bitrate control, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds for the keyframe interval. Select a resolution and bitrate your actual upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance contains its current recommendations.
  5. Test before the broadcast. Start OBS streaming, confirm the picture reaches the Live Control Room preview, and check representative motion and audio. Watch stream health indicators; recommendations are not a guarantee that a particular computer or internet connection can sustain the selected settings.
  6. Start the event and monitor it. Once the preview is ready, start the event in Live Control Room if the stream setup requires that action. Keep an eye on stream health and confirm the playlist continues through a clip transition.
  7. End deliberately. Stop streaming in OBS and end the event in Live Control Room. YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. If the broadcast must run longer, check YouTube’s current archiving guidance and plan accordingly.

Copyright and Fortnite footage

A video being your own match recording does not automatically establish that every element in it is cleared for a public broadcast. Review the game audio, any music, overlays, and other material you added; use content you have the rights or permission to stream. Avoid assuming that a recording is safe merely because it came from Fortnite’s Replay feature. YouTube’s live-streaming rules and any copyright notices in Studio apply to the broadcast.

Common problems and fixes

  • VLC Video is missing in OBS: install VLC, then reopen OBS. Confirm the VLC and OBS architectures match, especially when OBS is 64-bit.
  • The match plays once and stops: open the source properties and check that Loop Playlist is enabled for VLC Video or Loop is enabled for Media Source.
  • The YouTube preview stays offline: verify the stream URL and key in OBS Settings > Stream, then check that the correct stream is open in Live Control Room. Reset an exposed key rather than continuing to use it.
  • YouTube reports poor stream health or buffering: reduce the output bitrate or resolution to match available upload capacity. Recheck the preview and health indicators instead of relying on a nominal speed estimate.
  • Video appears but audio does not: check the source’s audio routing and OBS meters while the clip plays; verify the recording itself contains audio and that its level is not muted.
  • The broadcast is not archived as expected: YouTube’s cited encoder guidance documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. For longer broadcasts, consult current YouTube guidance and do not assume the archive will be available.
  • Live streaming is not available yet: check verification, restriction history, age requirements, and whether first-time enablement is still processing; YouTube says initial enablement may take up to 24 hours.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is a YouTube channel that repeats uploaded Fortnite videos without leaving OBS or a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube, not camera footage. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.
