There is no single price for a 4K prerecorded YouTube stream: the total depends on how many hours you run it, your cloud region, whether you need to encode the video, and which service you use. For a self-managed cloud VM, estimate compute time plus applicable internet egress, storage, and software. For a managed encoder, add its running input, output, and add-on charges. YouTube’s recommended 4K ingest bitrates make it possible to estimate transfer volume even before you choose a provider.
What goes into the cost?
Separate the bill into the service that prepares and sends your live feed, the data sent from your cloud account to YouTube, and any optional services such as storage or software. Viewer delivery is a separate cost only when your architecture also distributes a viewer-facing stream through your own CDN or another delivery service. YouTube receives the live feed and handles playback formats for its platform; an encoder-only estimate should not include a separate CDN audience-delivery bill.
- Encoding or compute: VM time or managed-encoder input, output, and add-on runtime.
- Internet egress: the encoded feed sent from the cloud provider to YouTube, if billed by that provider.
- Other services: storage, paid software, packaging, or distribution if your chosen design requires them.
AWS’s published live-streaming examples price a multi-service architecture with particular viewer counts, profiles, and distribution assumptions. They are not quotes for encoding one prerecorded feed and sending it to YouTube. See AWS’s live-streaming example for its scope and assumptions.
How much data does a 4K stream send?
YouTube’s current live encoder recommendations list the following bitrates for 2160p. The hourly data figures below are arithmetic derived from those bitrates, expressed in decimal gigabytes before protocol overhead; they are not cloud-provider prices. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Output | Codec | Recommended bitrate | Approximate transfer per hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2160p30 | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 30 Mbps | 13.5 GB |
| 2160p60 | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 35 Mbps | 15.75 GB |
| 2160p30 | H.264 | 42 Mbps | 18.9 GB |
| 2160p60 | H.264 | 50 Mbps | 22.5 GB |
To estimate a longer run, multiply the relevant hourly volume by the number of streaming hours. For example, a continuous 30 Mbps feed sends about 324 GB in a 24-hour day before protocol overhead (13.5 GB × 24). Use your provider’s egress rate and allowances for the region and account that will run the encoder, and leave headroom for overhead. Actual transfer can vary with stream settings and interruptions.

VM hourly rate × powered-on hours + applicable internet egress + storage and paid software.
- Choose the output target. Set the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1, up to 60 fps, and recommends constant bitrate encoding. For 4K, YouTube uses normal latency rather than its low-latency option. See YouTube’s encoder settings and YouTube’s stream settings.
- Work out runtime. Count every hour the VM must remain powered on, including setup, gaps between scheduled broadcasts, and recovery time.
- Check whether the source needs encoding. If its codec, dimensions, frame rate, or overlays differ from your intended output, transcoding can change the compute capacity required. Confirm that the selected instance can handle the workload in real time; there is no general VM price or performance figure that applies to every source and configuration.
- Estimate feed egress. Multiply the approximate hourly transfer in the table by runtime, then apply the provider’s current regional internet-egress pricing and any applicable allowance. Add headroom for protocol overhead.
- Add other charges. Include storage and paid software, and check whether your design requires separate packaging or delivery services.
Cloud providers’ egress rates and allowances vary by region and account terms, so a total in dollars cannot be calculated without the chosen provider, location, and schedule.

AWS Elemental MediaLive
AWS MediaLive on-demand pricing adds the hourly charges for running inputs, outputs, and applicable add-ons. AWS bills at a 10-minute minimum, then rounds duration up to the nearest minute. A channel continues to incur charges while running even if it has no input or is producing no output. For a scheduled or intermittent stream, stop the channel when it is not needed and include all running time in the estimate. Check the current MediaLive pricing page or AWS pricing calculator for the selected region, codec, frame rate, channel class, and output configuration.
A MediaLive calculation may not cover separate packaging, storage, or delivery services in a design that uses them. AWS’s live-streaming example includes services such as MediaLive, MediaPackage, and CloudFront; its viewer-distribution totals should not be treated as the price to send a single feed to YouTube. AWS also notes that internet data-transfer charges may apply to MediaPackage delivery over the internet or through a CDN other than CloudFront. See MediaPackage pricing.

Specialized prerecorded-streaming service
YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud-based service for continuous prerecorded YouTube streams in Full HD and 4K at 30 or 60 fps. That listing establishes a possible service path, not its current price. Check Gyre’s current plan limits and price directly, including runtime, simultaneous channels, source storage or transfer, looping, and scheduling. The YouTube directory does not publish a price. See YouTube’s encoder directory.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Keep the comparison like-for-like
A useful comparison uses the same planned runtime, codec, frame rate, bitrate, redundancy, and number of simultaneous feeds. It also checks whether looping, scheduling, storage, and support are included or billed separately. Compare a VM’s powered-on compute plus egress against a managed encoder’s running input/output charges or a SaaS plan; do not compare an encoder-only price with an architecture that also includes viewer delivery.

Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping uploaded prerecorded videos live 24/7. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; the cloud keeps the stream running without a computer, OBS, or home internet connection staying on. Each slot streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than separate quality tiers. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
There is one free day per account with no card required. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo also offers daily, weekly, six-month, and yearly billing; UPI and cards are available in India, while card checkout is available worldwide. Every slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and StreamNeo team support. The same product is included on every plan; only the billing length changes.
