To use XSplit Broadcaster as a webcam, add your camera to a scene, then select XSplit Broadcaster in your video-call app’s camera settings. XSplit sends Broadcaster’s canvas to the app as a virtual camera; you can also route a particular scene through Playout → Virtual Camera.

Set up XSplit as your webcam

  1. Add your camera: In XSplit Broadcaster, choose Add Source → Camera / Capture Card, then select your connected webcam or other camera.
  2. Build the scene: Arrange the camera in the scene. Add other sources or visuals, such as a background, if you want them to appear in the call.
  3. Select XSplit in the call app: Open the app’s video or camera settings and choose XSplit Broadcaster as the camera. XSplit gives Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams as examples; its product page also names Discord. Menu labels vary by app and can change with updates.

If you want to send a scene other than the current Live Scene, choose Playout → Virtual Camera in Broadcaster and select the scene to send. XSplit’s virtual webcam guide documents this workflow.

Use a built-in camera or add optional visuals

You do not need to buy a separate webcam if your computer already has a usable built-in camera, or if you have a camera connected to it. Add that device as a Camera / Capture Card source. An external USB webcam is an option if you do not have a camera or want different image quality; extra camera hardware is not required for the basic setup.

For a replacement background, XSplit’s support guide describes automatic removal in Camera Source Settings → Background Removal. It also describes quality and hardware-acceleration options, and adding a Background source for replacement imagery. Availability and results can depend on the device and settings.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Set the call’s video resolution

The virtual camera uses Broadcaster’s current canvas resolution, up to 1080p. The meeting app may impose a lower limit or downscale the feed, so selecting a 1080p canvas does not guarantee that other participants receive 1080p video. Check the canvas setting in Broadcaster and the video-quality options in the call app if the image looks softer than expected.

Route audio separately

The virtual camera handles video; the meeting app’s microphone selection controls what audio the call receives. If you want the call to hear audio from your Broadcaster scene, choose XSplit Audio (Broadcaster) as the microphone in the meeting app.

Check the microphone capture mode

  • Presentation Sources mode: Add your microphone or headset as an Audio Device source, or set it as a Global Recording Device in Broadcaster’s Audio Mixer.
  • System Devices mode: Set the default microphone in Broadcaster’s Audio Settings. Adding the same microphone again as a separate source can cause echo.

If the meeting app should use your microphone directly rather than scene audio, select that microphone in the app instead of XSplit Audio (Broadcaster). Avoid routing the same microphone through two paths at once.

Adjust camera controls and check the preview

Depending on the camera, Broadcaster may expose controls for video size, frame rate, brightness, gain, contrast, zoom, tilt, focus and saturation. XSplit recommends disabling auto-white balance or auto-exposure if sudden lighting changes cause flicker. The available controls vary by device; see XSplit’s camera settings and troubleshooting guide.

Google Meet mirrors the local preview by default, according to XSplit; participants see the video in the correct orientation. That behavior should not be assumed for every conferencing app. If a logo or text looks reversed in your preview, check what the app sends to other participants before changing the scene.

Check Windows and license requirements

XSplit’s current support documentation lists Broadcaster for Windows 10/11 64-bit and gives these vendor system requirements: a minimum 2nd Generation Core i5 or equivalent processor, 8 GB RAM, a GeForce- or Radeon-class graphics card supporting DirectX 10.1 or better, 250 MB available storage, and broadband internet. These are XSplit’s stated requirements, not independent performance testing. The same documentation says Windows 8.1 and earlier are no longer supported by the current Broadcaster version. See XSplit’s system requirements.

Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect camera feed

  • XSplit Broadcaster is not listed in the call app: Confirm Broadcaster is open and its virtual camera is available, then reopen the app’s camera settings and check again. App menus differ, so look under video, camera or device settings.
  • The wrong scene appears: Choose Playout → Virtual Camera and select the intended scene, especially if it is not the current Live Scene.
  • The image is lower resolution than expected: Check Broadcaster’s canvas resolution and the call app’s video settings. The virtual-camera output is based on the canvas up to 1080p, but the app can lower it.
  • There is no scene audio: Select XSplit Audio (Broadcaster) as the meeting app’s microphone and configure the microphone in Broadcaster according to its capture mode.
  • You hear echo: In System Devices mode, check whether the same microphone is set both as the default and as a separately added source. Remove the duplicate route.
  • The image flickers as lighting changes: If your camera exposes the controls, try disabling auto-white balance or auto-exposure.
  • Your local preview looks mirrored: XSplit documents this behavior for Google Meet’s local preview; participants see the video in the correct orientation. Check the behavior in your own app before treating a mirrored preview as a problem.

Or let it run in the cloud

XSplit is for composing a camera-based scene for video calls. If your separate goal is to keep prerecorded video live on a YouTube channel, StreamNeo is a different kind of tool: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.
