YouTube can schedule and promote a live event, but its documented scheduling controls do not switch playlist blocks inside a live stream. To start the next playlist when the current block ends, schedule the YouTube event in Live Control Room and configure the encoder or cloud streaming service that supplies the live feed to handle the transition. Verify that it supports end-of-block switching before relying on it for a 24/7 stream.
Can YouTube switch playlists automatically?
Not through the playlist-scheduling controls documented in YouTube Help. YouTube’s Live Control Room manages the live event, while an encoder sends the actual video feed. YouTube’s documented stream settings include the stream URL and key, latency, DVR, and auto-start or auto-stop options; they do not describe a feature that schedules playlist blocks or switches to the next playlist when one ends. See Manage live stream settings.
A scheduled stream is still useful: it creates an upcoming event that can be shown to subscribers, who may choose “Notify me.” That promotes the event; it does not automate changes to the content playing within it. YouTube’s live-streaming overview and encoder instructions describe the event and encoder workflows.
How do I make the next playlist start when the current one ends?
Put the transition in the system generating the stream, not in the YouTube event scheduler. That may be an encoder or a streaming-automation service, but the YouTube documentation cited here does not establish which specific product supports reliable end-of-block transitions. Before using any product for a continuous stream, confirm that its playlist sequence can advance at the end of a block and that it can keep delivering a feed through interruptions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Build the content sequence in your encoder-side system. Arrange the recordings or playlists in the desired order and configure the next block to start when the current block finishes. Confirm whether the system advances at the end of a video, a playlist, or a defined block; those are not necessarily the same trigger.
- Schedule the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, select Manage, then schedule a stream. YouTube’s encoder guide says you can reuse stream settings or create a new stream.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube into the encoder or service. Treat the key as a credential: use the intended key and do not publish it. The encoder supplies the video feed; scheduling the event alone does not send video.
- Test the transition before going live. Check the encoder’s preview and verify that the next block begins as intended. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Those are preparation recommendations, not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 operation. See YouTube live streaming tips.
- Go live from Live Control Room. Once the feed appears in preview and the event is ready, select Go live. Keep the playlist automation running; it is responsible for the content sequence.
What to verify before trusting a 24/7 setup
- End-of-block behavior: Confirm the next playlist starts automatically at the intended boundary, including what happens if a video is missing, ends early, or fails to load.
- Continuous delivery: Ask how the service behaves if its process, computer, connection, or YouTube ingest connection is interrupted. Do not assume YouTube’s auto-start or auto-stop options provide playlist automation or recovery.
- YouTube compatibility: Confirm the encoder accepts the ingest URL and stream key provided by YouTube. If it supports RTMPS, YouTube describes that as RTMP over TLS/SSL and directs creators to obtain the RTMPS URL in Live Control Room. See Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
- Preview and intervention: Know how to inspect the live preview, detect a stalled transition, and intervene if the wrong block is playing.
- Rights and channel rules: Make sure you have the rights to stream every recording, and review YouTube’s current policies for live content and monetization. Scheduling or looping a playlist does not grant permission to use copyrighted material.
Ending the stream and archive limits
YouTube’s documented end procedure is to select End Stream and stop sending content from the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that statement should not be treated as an archive guarantee for a 24/7 stream. Plan separately for any recordings you need to keep.
