What Streamlabs Stream Boss does
Stream Boss adds a health-based battle to a stream: supported events affect the boss’s health, and viewers compete to claim the throne. It is an engagement mechanic, not a regular goal bar, and it does not guarantee more income or audience growth. Which events are available and how they affect health depends on the widget’s settings and account configuration.
Streamlabs describes it this way: “The Stream Boss widget turns follows, tips, bits, and subscriptions into a competitive battle.” Streamlabs’ official setup guide was last updated December 19, 2025.
Choose how the boss battle should work
In the Streamlabs Dashboard’s Manage Battle controls, set starting health and choose a mode. The mode determines what happens after the boss is defeated:

- Fixed: Each new boss starts with the same health.
- Incremental: Each defeat adds health to the next boss by an amount you set.
- Overkill: Excess damage from the killing blow is multiplied and becomes the next boss’s health.
Streamlabs uses 2,000 starting health as an example for creators who want more frequent boss changes. It is an example setting, not a universal recommendation or measured benchmark. Choose a starting value and event effects that fit your community; Streamlabs does not prescribe a universally optimal balance.
Configure the widget in the Streamlabs Dashboard
- Sign in to the Streamlabs Dashboard.
- Open All Widgets in the left navigation and select Stream Boss.
- Choose a theme. Use Launch to preview the widget, including after saving changes.
- Under Manage Battle, set starting health and select Fixed, Incremental or Overkill.
- Open Settings and choose how supported events—such as follows, bits, subscriptions and tips—affect health.
- Adjust appearance options as needed, including kill animation, fade time, font, background color and health-bar colors. Streamlabs suggests zero fade time if you want the bar to stay visible.
- Save your settings. Return to Manage Battle and select Save Stream Boss Health to activate the widget.
Add Stream Boss to your streaming software
Streamlabs Desktop
- In Sources, select the add-source control.
- Choose Widgets > Stream Boss and add the source.
- Configure it with the available tabs: Goal for starting health and battle mode, Manage Battle for interaction effects, and Visual Settings for appearance.
- Select Done, then position and resize the widget on the canvas. The Sources controls include advanced options such as audio and custom CSS.
OBS Studio, XSplit or other compatible software
- Copy the Stream Boss Widget URL from its Streamlabs settings.
- In your broadcasting software, add a Browser Source.
- Paste the widget URL, set the source width and height to suit your scene, and confirm.
Menu labels and controls vary across software versions. Streamlabs documents the Browser Source method for OBS Studio, XSplit and other compatible software, but does not list every version or guarantee availability for every platform and account configuration.

Match the settings to your stream
- Battle pacing: Fixed keeps each round’s starting health consistent; Incremental makes successive bosses tougher; Overkill carries multiplied excess damage into the next boss’s health.
- Visibility: Fade time controls how long the widget remains visible after activity. Set it to zero if you want the health bar to stay on screen.
- Event balance: Adjust the health impact of supported events to suit your community. There is no single setting established as best for every stream.
- Scene fit: Use the native Stream Boss source in Streamlabs Desktop or a Browser Source with dimensions suited to your layout in compatible software.
Stream Boss versus a goal widget
Use Stream Boss when you want audience events to drive a battle. If the aim is simply to show progress toward a target, Streamlabs offers separate goal widgets. Its widget information page describes goal widgets as distinct types that can be added in Streamlabs Desktop or as Browser Sources in OBS.
Common setup problems and fixes
- The widget is missing from the scene: Confirm that you added the Stream Boss source (or Browser Source) to the active scene, then check its position, dimensions and visibility in the source list.
- The browser source is blank or the wrong size: Verify that you pasted the Stream Boss Widget URL and set the Browser Source width and height. The source guide does not specify universal dimensions, so fit them to your layout.
- The bar fades when you want it to remain visible: Reopen the appearance settings and set fade time to zero.
- The next boss does not have the health you expected: Check the selected battle mode and its settings. Fixed repeats the same health, Incremental adds the configured amount after defeats, and Overkill uses multiplied excess damage from the killing blow.
- A support event does not change health: Review the event’s effect in widget Settings and verify that the event is supported and available for your account configuration. The documentation does not establish that every event works for every platform or account.
