Set OBS’s YouTube Live keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. A low-end PC does not change that stream-format requirement: if the computer struggles, lower the resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to settings it can sustain rather than lengthening the interval.
Set the keyframe interval in OBS
- Open Settings → Output in OBS.
- If the streaming encoder controls are not visible, change Output Mode to Advanced, then open the Streaming section.
- Find Keyframe Interval or the equivalent control for your selected encoder. Set it to 2 seconds if the field uses seconds.
- Save the setting and confirm that the YouTube stream is healthy during a test. OBS labels and available controls can vary by version and encoder; see the OBS interface strings.
YouTube’s current encoder guidance says: “Keyframe frequency: Recommended 2 seconds Do not exceed 4 seconds.” If your encoder expresses the interval in frames, use the stream’s frame rate multiplied by two: 60 frames at 30 fps, or 120 frames at 60 fps. Why a low-end PC should not use a longer interval
The keyframe interval is part of the stream format YouTube expects; it is not a performance dial. Raising it above YouTube’s maximum is not the right way to reduce load. Instead, select an encoder, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that your hardware and actual upload connection can maintain reliably.
There is no single best resolution or bitrate for every low-end Indian PC. The processor, graphics hardware, available encoder, internet connection, and game or other content all matter. YouTube recommends testing the connection and checking stream health, and advises testing with representative motion and audio rather than assuming a static scene proves the settings are stable. Its recommendations are platform guidance, not a guarantee that a particular PC or connection can deliver them.

Choose a sustainable stream quality
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video, frame rates up to 60 fps, and CBR bitrate encoding. For SDR, it specifies Rec. 709 and 8-bit. Use only a codec and frame rate supported by your encoder and YouTube’s current setup.

These are YouTube’s published figures, not a promise of stable performance on your PC or network. Choose a bitrate with headroom below the upload speed you can sustain, especially if other devices share the connection. If the stream drops frames or loses health, step down in quality and test again.

Test and troubleshoot before a real stream
- YouTube reports keyframe or ingestion errors: check that the interval is 2 seconds (or the matching frame count), not greater than 4 seconds. For 30 fps, 60 frames is the two-second equivalent. YouTube’s error guidance also mentions a closed GOP; use the encoder settings available for your selected encoder and consult its documentation if YouTube reports a GOP issue.
- Encoding or rendering overload: lower output resolution or frame rate, or choose an encoder the PC can run reliably. Do not compensate by exceeding YouTube’s keyframe limit.
- Connection instability or dropped frames: run a speed test, reduce the bitrate, and check YouTube’s stream-health indicators. Test during representative gameplay or other motion, not only a quiet menu.
- Recording and streaming at once causes trouble: a separate recording encoder uses additional resources. On constrained hardware, avoid assuming simultaneous recording is free; OBS’s recording output guide explains the separate encoder context.
- The setting is missing: inspect Output Mode and the selected streaming encoder. Advanced mode exposes more output controls, but exact availability and labels depend on the OBS version and encoder.
