XSplit Broadcaster is the clearest fit if you want a streaming app with both an audio mixer and a built-in equalizer. Its documentation describes controls for adjusting individual device levels and a three-band semi-parametric EQ. OBS Studio is a flexible, free alternative if you are willing to add EQ through a compatible plugin; Streamlabs Desktop documents useful audio filters, but the reviewed materials do not establish a built-in multiband equalizer. The right choice depends on whether native EQ, plugin flexibility, or a browser-based guest workflow matters most.

What an audio mixer does—and what an equalizer adds

A mixer balances the levels of separate audio sources, such as your microphone, game, voice chat, and music. An equalizer (EQ) changes the level of selected frequency ranges, which can help shape tone—for example, reducing low-frequency rumble or adjusting presence. Noise suppression, a gate, and a compressor serve different purposes: they reduce unwanted noise or manage level changes, but they are not an EQ curve.

So “has an audio mixer” does not automatically mean “has a built-in equalizer.” Check whether EQ is native to the app, supplied by a plugin, or requires processing elsewhere. The feature distinctions below reflect vendor documentation, not hands-on sound-quality testing.

Best streaming software with a mixer and equalizer

1. XSplit Broadcaster: clearest built-in mixer-and-EQ match

XSplit’s support documentation says you can monitor and adjust devices individually in Tools > Audio Mixer, including adding playback or recording devices, changing their levels, and muting them. Its Parametric Equalizer is described as a three-band semi-parametric EQ: Low, Mid, and High bands each have selectable frequency centers and gain controls, with quality-factor presets. XSplit also documents noise suppression, a noise gate, a compressor, and VST3 plugin support; the support page specifies VST3 support in XSplit Broadcaster V4.2 or newer. Check the current app version and feature availability before relying on a particular control.

  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Best for: streamers who want individual source-level controls and a documented native EQ in one desktop application. XSplit’s official product page listed a free tier limited to streaming at up to 720p without a watermark, as well as paid monthly, yearly, and lifetime options. Those are volatile offers and may vary by region and billing terms; check the current XSplit Broadcaster page for what is available to you.

2. OBS Studio: free, cross-platform, and expandable with plugins

OBS Studio is free and open source, with Windows, macOS, and Linux versions. The OBS Project describes real-time audio and video capture and mixing, scenes made from different sources, and an audio mixer with per-source noise gate, noise suppression, and gain filters. It also documents VST plugin support, hotkeys, Studio Mode, multiview, and a modular dock interface.

The reviewed OBS feature documentation does not establish a native parametric EQ. You can pursue EQ with a compatible VST plugin, but check that the plugin supports your operating system and OBS workflow, and confirm the audio is routed through the plugin as intended. Plugin installation and configuration add complexity compared with choosing software that documents built-in EQ.

Best for: creators who value free, open-source software, cross-platform availability, or a customizable production setup and are comfortable managing plugins. See the OBS Studio features and audio mixer guide.

3. Streamlabs Desktop: useful filters, but native EQ is not established here

Streamlabs describes Desktop as a Windows and Mac application that is free to download and use. Its audio guidance covers filters including gain, noise suppression, noise gate, compressor, polarity inversion, limiter, and expander. These can help address level, noise, and dynamics issues, but the reviewed documentation does not name a native multiband equalizer.

To apply a filter, Streamlabs’ guide directs users to the microphone source in the Audio Mixer panel. It recommends making a short recording or private test, monitoring through headphones, and reviewing the result. Some Streamlabs features vary by plan, so check current plan details if a feature beyond the listed audio controls matters to your setup.

Best for: streamers who want a filter-based workflow for common microphone cleanup and dynamics tasks and do not require a documented built-in EQ. See Streamlabs Desktop guidance.

4. StreamYard: browser studio for guest-led shows

StreamYard’s vendor-authored comparison, last updated January 10, 2026, characterizes its browser studio as focused on echo cancellation, background-noise reduction, stereo audio, and automatic microphone-level controls rather than built-in multiband EQ. It suggests handling detailed EQ upstream with hardware or virtual mixer software, or using desktop software with plugins for a more technical workflow. Treat this as the vendor’s description, not an independent sound-quality assessment.

Best for: interviews, panels, webinars, or other guest-based shows where browser access and straightforward controls matter more than detailed EQ inside the studio. If you choose a browser workflow, test the entire audio path—including any upstream processing—before a live show.

Compare the EQ and mixer workflow

Software Mixer and audio controls documented EQ status in reviewed documentation Best-supported fit
XSplit Broadcaster Individual device monitoring and level adjustment; noise suppression, gate, compressor, and VST3 support Native three-band semi-parametric EQ Integrated mixer and built-in EQ
OBS Studio Per-source noise gate, noise suppression, and gain filters; VST plugin support Plugin-based EQ workflow; native parametric EQ is not established by the reviewed feature page Free, cross-platform, customizable production
Streamlabs Desktop Gain, noise suppression, gate, compressor, polarity inversion, limiter, and expander A native multiband EQ is not established by the reviewed materials Common cleanup and dynamics filters
StreamYard Vendor describes echo cancellation, noise reduction, stereo, and automatic mic controls Vendor says it has no built-in multiband EQ; suggests external processing for detailed EQ Browser-based interviews and guest-led shows

Choose based on the way you produce

  • Want EQ built into the streaming app: Start with XSplit Broadcaster, the clearest documented match for both individual device controls and native EQ.
  • Want a free, flexible desktop setup: Consider OBS Studio if you are comfortable choosing and configuring a compatible EQ plugin.
  • Mostly need noise and dynamics filters: Streamlabs Desktop documents a broad set of such filters, though the reviewed guidance does not establish native multiband EQ.
  • Run interviews or panels in a browser: StreamYard may fit a guest-first workflow; plan on upstream processing if detailed EQ is important.

Do not choose by presumed sound quality: the feature documentation does not establish which application sounds better. Your microphone, room, gain staging, routing, and settings all affect the result.

Set up and check your stream audio

  1. List the sources you need to balance. Identify the microphone, game or desktop audio, voice chat, and any music or other program audio. Confirm each source appears separately in the app where you need individual control.
  2. Set levels before adjusting the app fader. The OBS audio mixer guide recommends starting with device, operating-system, and application volume controls before changing the OBS fader. Use the same principle to find the source of a level problem in other apps rather than compensating blindly in several places.
  3. Balance sources and watch for clipping. Bring sources up to useful, consistent levels without letting them peak into clipping. XSplit’s mixer documentation describes its dBFS meter as a way to identify levels approaching clipping.
  4. Use the tool that matches the problem. Use EQ to shape frequencies, noise suppression to reduce unwanted background noise, a gate to reduce quiet input between sounds, and compression to manage changing levels. These controls are not interchangeable; aggressive settings can make speech sound unnatural or cut off quiet words.
  5. Monitor with headphones and record a test. Speak at your usual distance and volume, then play the game or other audio as you normally would. Record a short segment and listen back for balance, intelligibility, clipping, unwanted noise, and abrupt cutoffs. Do not rely on the live meters alone.
  6. Check the destination’s current audio requirements. Platform requirements can change. Streamlabs’ audio guide reports maximum audio bitrates of 160 kbps for Twitch, 128 kbps for YouTube stereo (up to 384 kbps for surround sound), and 128 kbps for Facebook Live stereo. These figures are attributed to Streamlabs, and its page did not expose a reliable publication year; confirm current requirements with the platform before setting an encoder.

When external hardware or processing makes sense

Try software controls and a recorded test before buying equipment. A hardware mixer or audio interface can make sense when you need physical controls for individual sources or a dedicated routing path; it is not a prerequisite for software mixing. OBS’s guide notes that physical mixers can provide individual source gain controls and a master level before audio reaches the computer.

For detailed EQ in a workflow without documented native multiband EQ, an external hardware or virtual audio path may be an option. Check compatibility and routing carefully: the processed signal must reach the streaming application, and monitoring should not create an unintended duplicate or echo. XSplit documents VST3 support in Broadcaster V4.2 or newer; for OBS, verify the plugin’s compatibility and setup rather than assuming every VST works in every configuration.

Troubleshoot common audio problems

Microphone sounds distorted or peaks too high

Lower the microphone or application output at its source, then recheck the app meter and make a new test recording. If several controls are boosting the same signal, reduce gain at the earliest point where it is excessive instead of relying on a later fader to hide clipping that has already occurred.

Game or chat audio overwhelms speech

Reduce the louder source at its device or application control, then balance it against the microphone while monitoring with headphones. Record a representative gameplay segment; a quiet desktop can make a mix seem balanced when it is not.

Background noise remains audible

First check microphone placement, room noise, and source gain. Then try noise suppression or a gate conservatively. If a gate cuts off the starts or ends of words, ease its threshold or disable it and test again.

Voice sounds harsh, boomy, or unnatural

Use an EQ only when the problem is tonal, and make small changes while listening to a recording. A gate, compressor, or noise filter will not substitute for EQ; excessive processing can make a voice less natural rather than clearer.

A plugin EQ is not affecting the stream

Verify the plugin is compatible with the operating system and application version, is attached to the intended source, and sits on the audio route that reaches the stream. Monitor and record a test to confirm that the processed signal—not an unprocessed duplicate—is what viewers will hear.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a separate use case—keeping a pre-recorded YouTube video live around the clock—StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud rather than your gaming PC. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not stream from a camera. Nothing has to stay on at home, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The uploaded video streams as made, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a streaming mixer automatically include an equalizer?
