YouTube has no official ideal number of livestreams per week or month. Choose a schedule you can sustain, make it predictable for viewers, and adjust it using your channel’s goals, audience timing, stream results, and workload. Streaming more often is not, by itself, a guarantee of growth.
Choose a cadence you can keep
YouTube’s live-stream scheduling guidance asks creators to consider frequency, consistency, content volume, production time and cost, long-term sustainability, and the goal of each stream. Its guidance describes a “consistent, sustainable release schedule” as important for audience expectations and creator wellbeing.
There is no evidence-based universal target such as once a week or every day. Instead, count the work around each stream—not only the time you are live. Include preparation, setup, promotion, any archive handling, and recovery time. A schedule that crowds out those tasks or your wellbeing is unlikely to be sustainable.
Make the schedule easy to understand
Pick a repeatable day and time, and tell viewers what the stream is for. A clear format—such as a weekly game night, community Q&A, or tournament session—helps people know what to expect. If your plans change, let viewers know in advance where possible.

Use your audience data to choose when, not how often
In YouTube Analytics, the “When your viewers are on YouTube” report shows audience activity over the preceding 28 days. Use it as a recent clue for choosing a start time. It does not prescribe a weekly frequency or promise that a particular time will perform well.
If you schedule a livestream in advance, YouTube can show it as upcoming, and viewers may be able to select “Notify me.” That gives regular viewers a way to plan around your schedule; it is not a substitute for choosing a cadence you can maintain.

Match the schedule to the stream’s goal
Not every livestream is trying to do the same job. YouTube’s planning guidance distinguishes goals such as reach, subscriber growth, and revenue. Decide what a particular stream is meant to accomplish before judging whether its schedule is working.
- For reach: Look at whether people discover and click into the stream, including impressions and click-through rate.
- For engagement: Consider views, concurrent viewers, retention, average view duration, and watch time alongside the live chat or other interaction your format invites.
- For returning viewers or community: Look for audience patterns across comparable streams, rather than expecting every session to attract the same number of people.
These are diagnostic signals, not proof that frequency caused a change. Compare streams with similar formats and goals: a short gameplay session and a long community event may draw different viewing patterns even on the same channel.

Review the schedule after a run of comparable streams
- Set a trial cadence and format. Choose a repeatable schedule that fits your available preparation and live time.
- Check timing clues. Use the “When your viewers are on YouTube” report to help select a start time, remembering that its window covers the prior 28 days.
- Keep the comparison fair. Review several streams with a similar format and goal rather than treating unlike events as interchangeable.
- Review performance and workload together. Consider appeal, engagement, satisfaction, click-through rate, views, average view duration, retention, concurrent viewers, and watch time, as well as the time and effort each stream required.
- Adjust deliberately. Keep the cadence if it is manageable and serves the channel’s goal. If the workload, quality, or audience response is not working for you, try fewer streams or a different format, and tell viewers about the change.
Do you need special equipment to stream more often?
No. YouTube says creators can start with the equipment they already have; expensive gear is not a prerequisite. An encoder setup may use a camera and microphone when they suit the format, but buying equipment does not establish how often you should go live. Choose the cadence first, then add equipment only where it solves a real production need.
Where a 24/7 stream fits—and where it does not
A continuously running channel is different from a schedule of interactive, creator-led livestreams. If your goal is to keep prerecorded video playing as a YouTube live stream around the clock, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud; it is not a way to go live from a camera. That option may suit a continuous music, ambience, or other prerecorded-video stream, but it does not replace choosing a sustainable schedule for ordinary live sessions.
