How to Set OBS Output Resolution for a 24/7 YouTube Stream on JioFiber

A stable 720p30 start is safer than assuming JioFiber’s advertised speed guarantees a continuous stream. Set OBS bitrate and frame rate to match the mode, then test and monitor YouTube stream health.

Start with 1280×720 at 30 fps in OBS, using YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate of 4 Mbps. Move to 1920×1080 at 30 fps—10 Mbps recommended—only after a representative test shows stable upload, capable encoding, and healthy YouTube stream status. Those are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees about any particular JioFiber connection.

Choose a resolution your connection and computer can sustain

For a 24/7 stream, prioritize continuous stability over the highest available resolution. Compare the mode’s bitrate requirement with sustained upload from the streaming computer, encoder capacity, and YouTube’s stream-health feedback. Leave upload headroom for variation and other household traffic; do not set OBS to the full result of a speed test.

Output mode YouTube H.264 recommended video bitrate When to consider it
1280×720, 30 fps 4 Mbps A cautious first test and lower-load option.
1280×720, 60 fps 6 Mbps When smoother motion is useful and upload and encoding remain stable.
1920×1080, 30 fps 10 Mbps When a sustained test supports the higher bitrate and the computer encodes reliably.
1920×1080, 60 fps 12 Mbps When both the connection and encoder can sustain the higher load.

These are YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations, current guidance accessed in 2026—not measured JioFiber performance. YouTube lists different bitrate ranges for AV1 and H.265/HEVC, so do not apply the H.264 figures to those codecs. YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingest, with frame rates up to 60 fps. See YouTube’s live encoder recommendations.

Set up the YouTube stream and OBS output

  1. Prepare the live stream in YouTube Studio. Use the Live Control Room workflow to set up the stream and obtain its stream key. YouTube ordinarily detects the encoder’s resolution and frame rate; manual resolution behavior is available through custom stream key settings. Keep the stream key private.
  2. Open OBS’s video and output controls. Set the output resolution to 1280×720 for the initial test. OBS’s YouTube workflow directs streamers to Output settings for stream output configuration. Exact labels may differ by OBS version and output mode; consult the OBS YouTube streaming guide for its workflow.
  3. Match the frame rate and encoder settings to the selected mode. For the recommended conservative start, select 30 fps and use a 4 Mbps video bitrate if encoding H.264. If testing 1080p30, the H.264 recommendation is 10 Mbps. Configure the streaming encoder’s output resolution, frame rate, rate control, and bitrate consistently.
  4. Use YouTube’s ingest settings. Set rate control to CBR and keyframe interval to two seconds. Use RTMP or RTMPS as supported by the configured YouTube ingest; prefer RTMPS where available.
  5. Run a representative test. Include motion and audio similar to what the channel will actually play. Watch OBS for connection trouble and YouTube’s stream-health feedback. If the connection or stream health is unstable, lower bitrate first; if needed, lower frame rate or resolution as well.

What JioFiber’s advertised speed does—and does not—tell you

Jio describes JioFiber as symmetric, meaning advertised upload speed equals download speed, and advertises speeds up to 1 Gbps. That headline does not establish the sustained upload available to your specific plan, location, router, Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection, or household at the time of a continuous broadcast. Test from the actual streaming computer under representative conditions and retain headroom. JioFiber service information.

Jio’s plan FAQ describes plans as unlimited for home use, while also saying RJIL may discontinue data services for misuse, fraudulent, unauthorized, or commercial use. The FAQ does not establish whether a particular continuous YouTube broadcast counts as commercial use. If your stream is commercial, check the terms of your specific plan and ask Jio how they apply. Test and adjust before leaving the stream on

  • Test for long enough to reveal variation rather than relying on a single speed-test result.
  • Use the same computer, network path, resolution, frame rate, and encoder settings intended for the ongoing stream.
  • Check YouTube’s stream-health status and OBS connection indicators during the test.
  • If health degrades, reduce the bitrate and test again; if instability continues, step down the frame rate or resolution.
  • Compare the actual picture as well as stability. YouTube transcodes incoming live streams for viewers at different formats, so the encoder’s input resolution is not the only viewing option involved.

Troubleshooting common instability

Symptom Likely area to check What to try
OBS reports connection trouble or YouTube flags stream instability Bitrate may exceed stable upload, or the connection may vary. Lower the video bitrate and retest. Keep headroom rather than targeting the full speed-test upload; lower frame rate or resolution if necessary.
Connection looks adequate, but the stream still struggles The computer may not sustain the selected encoding workload. Test the same content and settings while monitoring the encoder. Choose a lower-load resolution or frame rate if encoding is not stable.
The stream starts at an unexpected resolution or frame rate YouTube normally detects the encoder output; manual resolution behavior is associated with custom stream key settings. Confirm OBS output settings and the selected YouTube stream-key configuration.
A bitrate recommendation does not match the chosen codec YouTube’s recommendations are codec-specific. Use the YouTube table for the actual ingest codec; do not reuse H.264 values for AV1 or H.265/HEVC.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is a continuous YouTube stream of uploaded videos rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo is an alternative to keeping OBS and a home computer running. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It plays uploaded videos and streams to YouTube only.
