First check which OBS counter is climbing. Network Dropped Frames usually points to an unstable connection to YouTube ingest or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain; Rendering Lag or encoder overload points instead to GPU or encoding performance. AMD AMF is not automatically the cause. Match your fix to the counter, then test one change at a time.
Identify what OBS is reporting
During a stream, open OBS’s status area and note whether network dropped frames, rendering lag, or encoding overload is increasing. Save the OBS log for a session that reproduces the problem; it records useful details about the stream and encoder configuration. The OBS Studio Overview Guide explains the interface and logs.
- Network dropped frames: OBS says this means “your connection to remote server isn’t stable or you can’t keep up with your set bitrate.” Check upload stability, bitrate, route to YouTube ingest, and network interference. See OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting.
- Rendering lag or encoder overload: Investigate GPU headroom, competing workloads, output resolution, and frame rate. These are performance problems, not the same as network drops. See OBS Encoding Performance Troubleshooting.
If you are unsure which counter is rising, capture the status area and keep the log before changing settings. Avoid changing multiple variables at once: it makes it harder to identify the cause.
Check YouTube’s live settings first
In OBS, open Settings > Output and select the streaming output controls available in your installed OBS version. Set rate control to CBR and keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS; use it if it is available in your streaming service/server selection. YouTube says not to exceed a four-second keyframe interval. Its current guidance is at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For H.264 at 1080p60, YouTube lists 6 Mbps as the minimum and 17 Mbps as the recommended bitrate. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that your internet connection can sustain that rate. Start below your stable upload capacity if necessary; a lower, steady bitrate is preferable to a target that repeatedly overwhelms the connection.
Choose a codec actually supported by your AMD GPU, driver, operating system, and installed AMF implementation. OBS supports AMD AMF on Windows and Linux, but compatibility varies by GPU and available encoder options. Consult the OBS Hardware Encoding guide and the compatibility and troubleshooting references it links to. Do not assume that every AMF control or codec appears on every system.

If the network dropped-frames counter is rising
Lower the bitrate to a sustainable target
OBS suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting point when reducing bitrate. Treat that as a troubleshooting starting point, not a measurement of guaranteed sustained capacity: speed-test results can fluctuate, and other devices or applications may use bandwidth. If drops continue, lower the bitrate again and retest.
Improve the connection to ingest
- Use wired Ethernet for a test if you are currently on Wi-Fi. OBS notes that Wi-Fi may be unstable; a wired test can help isolate the connection, but is not a guaranteed fix.
- Try a different YouTube ingest server if OBS offers one.
- Temporarily check whether a VPN, security software, network optimizer, or other network software is interfering. Change only what you understand, and restore protections after the test.
- Restart or investigate the router/modem and network drivers if the connection is unstable beyond OBS.
- Testing another streaming service can help determine whether the behavior is specific to the service or route, but does not by itself prove which component is at fault.
For persistent problems, compare OBS logs from a failing session and a stable test, and note the bitrate and network conditions for each.

Use dynamic bitrate only as a fallback
OBS offers Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion (Beta) in its streaming output options. It can lower bitrate when the connection cannot keep up, reducing dropped frames at the cost of video quality. OBS cautions that this does not fix the underlying connection problem. Use it as a fallback rather than a substitute for finding a stable bitrate or resolving network instability.
If rendering lag or encoder overload is rising
- On Windows, run OBS as administrator. OBS recommends this in its encoding-performance guidance; then reproduce the same scene and stream conditions.
- Reduce competing GPU work. Close or pause applications and tasks that are using substantial GPU resources, then check the OBS counters again.
- Reduce output resolution or frame rate. If 60 fps is not sustainable, test 30 fps. Lowering the output resolution can also reduce rendering and encoding load.
- Simplify the scene for diagnosis. Temporarily disable resource-heavy sources or effects one at a time. If the problem clears, re-enable them individually to find the source of the load.
- Retest under representative conditions. Use the same scenes, motion, and audio activity as the real stream; a static or very short test may not expose the issue.
Change only one setting at a time and observe the relevant counter. The OBS guide covers further steps for encoding and rendering performance troubleshooting.

Why there is no universal AMD AMF preset
The exact AMF options depend on your GPU, operating system, OBS build, driver, and workload. Without those details and a log from the affected session, no single preset can responsibly be called the fix for every AMD system.
OBS’s published AMD values of CQP 16–23, a two-second keyframe interval, Quality preset, High profile, and zero maximum B-frames appear in its Advanced Recording Settings Guide. They are recording baselines, not a universal YouTube live-stream recipe. For YouTube streaming, begin with the live platform requirements—CBR and a two-second keyframe interval—then use the live encoder controls available in your OBS/AMF setup. The recording guide was published on 2023-11-30; the YouTube live settings page is the relevant reference for current ingest recommendations.

Test the fix before relying on it
- Record the current OBS counters, output settings, GPU model, operating system, OBS version, and driver version.
- Run a test stream with movement and audio similar to the real broadcast, and monitor YouTube’s stream health as well as OBS’s counters.
- Change one setting that targets the rising counter: bitrate or connection path for network drops; GPU load, resolution, or frame rate for rendering/encoding overload.
- Repeat the same representative test. Keep the change only if the relevant counter improves without causing another problem, such as unacceptable image quality.
If you need a model-specific diagnosis, include the GPU model, OS, OBS build, driver version, output resolution and frame rate, AMF options shown in OBS, and a log from a session that reproduces the issue.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream live around the clock rather than troubleshoot a live OBS production, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded video on YouTube, not camera streaming.
