First check which OBS counter is increasing. Encoding lag or rendering lag points to a local performance bottleneck: reduce resolution or frame rate, simplify the scene, and close GPU-heavy programs. If the dropped-frames counter rises and OBS’s connection indicator turns yellow or red, investigate the network and bitrate instead. A YouTube stream-health warning may be a separate ingest-setting issue, so use its exact message rather than treating every warning as an encoder problem.
Identify which warning you are seeing
“Encoder overloaded” is not enough to identify one cause. The affected computer, encoder, OBS settings, and YouTube health message all matter. Before changing settings, open OBS’s Stats panel while the warning is visible and note which counter is rising. Then check the corresponding interval in the OBS log and read the exact message in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Skipped frames due to encoding lag: OBS is not encoding frames on time. Reduce encoding workload and competing resource use.
- Frames missed due to rendering lag: OBS is struggling to composite the scene. Simplify sources, filters, and other GPU demands.
- Dropped frames with a yellow or red connection indicator: the connection to the streaming server may be unstable or unable to sustain the configured bitrate. OBS distinguishes this network symptom from encoding performance problems (OBS Project guidance).
- A YouTube stream-health message: check the specific ingest warning. YouTube identifies issues including bitrate, frame rate, keyframe interval, codec, and insufficient incoming video (YouTube Live Streaming API health-status reference, last updated September 14, 2026 UTC).
These symptoms can coexist. Use the counters and health message to choose the branch below; do not lower bitrate as a first response to rendering lag, or change graphics settings to fix a network problem.
Fix encoding or rendering lag in OBS
Make one change at a time and watch the same counter that was rising. This makes it easier to tell which adjustment helped.

- Lower the output resolution. If OBS cannot render or encode the current output reliably, try a lower output resolution and check whether the lag subsides.
- Reduce the frame rate. If you are streaming at 60 fps, test 30 fps. OBS specifically recommends trying 30 fps when 60 fps is not working.
- Simplify the scene. Remove unnecessary browser sources, overlays, filters, and other costly elements. A static devotional image or a restrained visual loop may not need elaborate compositing.
- Close competing GPU-heavy programs. Other applications using the GPU can leave OBS without enough resources to render or encode on time.
- On Windows, try running OBS as administrator. If the problem persists, inspect the OBS log for the affected period and use OBS’s performance troubleshooting guidance (OBS Project encoding-performance troubleshooting).
OBS notes that GPU overload or a bottleneck between the GPU and the rest of the system can cause performance problems. That possibility does not by itself establish that the computer needs replacing; first test the settings and log evidence on the machine you have.
Fix dropped frames caused by the network
- Check whether OBS’s dropped-frames counter rises alongside a yellow or red connection status. OBS says this pattern means the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the set bitrate (OBS Project guidance).
- Run an upload-speed test under conditions similar to the stream. Choose a bitrate the connection can sustain reliably, not merely a peak speed from a test.
- If the configured bitrate exceeds the stable upload capacity, lower it and observe whether dropped frames stop increasing.
- Check YouTube’s stream health again after the change. YouTube advises selecting a reliable stream quality based on the internet connection (YouTube Help: encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions).
Check YouTube’s encoder settings and health message
YouTube’s published guidance for RTMP/RTMPS recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, with keyframes no more than four seconds apart. The listed supported codecs include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1. Its bitrate recommendations vary by resolution, codec, and frame rate; the H.264 examples below are ingest recommendations, not proof that an encoder can handle the workload or that a mostly static aarti stream needs the highest listed quality.

These figures are YouTube’s currently published recommendations, accessed in 2026. Choose a setting that both the encoder and stable upload connection can sustain. For other resolutions, frame rates, or codecs, consult YouTube’s encoder guide rather than extrapolating from these examples.
If Live Control Room reports an ingest issue, match its wording to YouTube’s health-status reference. A high or low bitrate, high frame rate, long keyframe interval, unsupported codec or resolution, and video starvation are distinct conditions with different remedies. Do not assume that an OBS overload symptom and a YouTube ingest warning have the same cause.

Test the continuous stream before leaving it unattended
- Start a representative test using the actual aarti audio and movement similar to what the stream will show.
- Watch OBS Stats and YouTube stream health together. Note any counter or warning that returns.
- Let the test run long enough to check the actual continuous setup rather than relying on a brief preview.
- If a problem returns, record the OBS log interval and YouTube message, then make one targeted change and test again.
YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement and monitoring stream health and messages (YouTube Help). No single setting can be guaranteed to eliminate warnings on an unspecified computer and connection.
When should you replace equipment?
Do not buy a replacement computer, encoder, cooling accessory, or UPS just because the warning appeared. First identify whether the evidence points to local rendering or encoding, unstable upload, or a YouTube ingest configuration. A purchase is only a grounded next step if sustained symptoms and logs establish a hardware limitation or another specific need; the warning alone does not.
