Yes—a Windows mini PC can run a continuous YouTube study stream with OBS Studio, provided its cooling, power, internet connection and recovery setup can handle long sessions. The practical workflow is to create a stream in YouTube Studio, connect OBS with the stream URL and key, choose settings your upload connection can sustain, then test the whole setup—including what happens after a disconnection or restart.
Plan the stream before you configure the PC
Decide what viewers will see and hear, how much motion the scene contains, whether someone will monitor chat, and whether you need a replay. These choices affect both the PC workload and the stream settings.
- Static study scene: A still image with audio is generally a simpler workload than a moving scene. This is a practical inference from OBS’s guidance that encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity affect system demands—not a benchmark of any particular mini PC.
- Looped video or animation: Confirm in your installed OBS version that the selected media source loops and behaves as expected after a restart.
- Captured desktop or camera: This gives viewers a more live, changing picture, but can add complexity and resource use. Test it at the intended resolution and frame rate.
- Music and visuals: Use material you own or have explicit permission to stream. A track being described as study music or a loop does not by itself establish that it is copyright-safe. Check current YouTube policies before going live.
If a complete replay matters, plan for it now: YouTube says streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived, so do not assume one uninterrupted 24-hour event will be saved as a complete replay. See YouTube’s encoder setup and archive guidance.
Prepare YouTube Live and protect the stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or select the stream you intend to broadcast.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the connection details. If you use a custom server option, use the stream URL supplied by YouTube.
- Keep the key private. Treat it like a password: do not show it in a screenshot, public post or recording. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- If this is the channel’s first live broadcast, allow time for activation. YouTube says first-time live enablement may take up to 24 hours.

Build and test the OBS scene
- Install OBS Studio and run its Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point. The wizard’s result is not a substitute for testing on the actual PC and network.
- Create a scene, then add the sources you need—for example, an image, text, media file, display capture or camera. Keep the scene as simple as the broadcast requires.
- Play representative audio and check the OBS audio meters. Confirm that every media source starts, loops and recovers the way you expect.
- Set the output and video options, connect the YouTube stream details, and run a private or otherwise low-risk test before announcing the broadcast.
- Let the test run for several minutes with the real scene and audio. Watch OBS for dropped frames or encoder strain and check YouTube’s stream health.
OBS advises users to test rather than jump directly into a first broadcast. Its Quick Start Guide covers the wizard, scenes, sources and initial test. Its system requirements also caution that compatibility alone does not mean a computer can stream or record successfully.
Choose settings for a stable upload connection
Use a wired connection if available, run an upload speed test, and choose output settings with headroom for normal network variation and other household traffic. A speed test is a snapshot, not proof that the connection can sustain a stream around the clock. Test during the hours and conditions when the stream will actually run.
YouTube currently recommends RTMPS for encoder connections, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), frame rates up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. Its H.264 video bitrate recommendations include:

These are YouTube’s current H.264 encoder recommendations, retrieved in 2026—not guarantees of real-world stability at those upload speeds. Lower resolution or frame rate may be the better choice if it gives your connection more consistent headroom. Check whether the mini PC can sustain the workload
OBS lists Windows 10/11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU among its basic Windows requirements, but those compatibility requirements do not certify a machine for a particular streaming setup. There is no single minimum processor, RAM amount or mini PC model established for every study stream.

- Whether its hardware encoder supports the format and output settings you plan to use.
- Whether its cooling can sustain a long session without excessive heat or throttling, and whether fan noise is acceptable where the PC is located.
- Whether it has wired Ethernet, and whether the connection remains stable under ordinary household use.
- Whether operating system support, storage capacity and available RAM suit your sources and any local recording.
- Whether power use and serviceability make sense for a device intended to run continuously.
Use OBS’s wizard as a starting point, then test a representative broadcast for an extended period. Watch encoder load, dropped frames, temperatures and YouTube stream health; results depend on the particular hardware, scene and settings.
Plan for restarts, outages and unattended operation
OBS documents a --startstreaming launch parameter that can start streaming when OBS launches. On Windows, its Launch Parameters guide explains how to add launch parameters to a shortcut. This is only one part of recovery: it does not itself ensure Windows is logged in, the network is ready, the right event is selected or a media source has restarted.

- Restart test: Reboot the PC and verify that Windows, OBS, the correct scene and the intended YouTube event are ready as expected.
- Network interruption test: Briefly interrupt the connection, then confirm OBS reconnects and YouTube receives the stream again.
- Power restoration test: If continuity through a power interruption matters, test how the PC and network equipment behave when power returns. Device and firmware behavior varies.
- Media recovery test: Check that looped visuals and audio resume correctly rather than staying stopped or advancing unexpectedly.
Do not treat automatic startup as a guarantee of full recovery, and do not disable security updates as a blanket reliability measure. A UPS for the mini PC and router may bridge a brief outage, but select its capacity for the combined load and runtime you need; no specific model or capacity is established here.

YouTube’s help says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That rule does not mean a single continuous 24-hour broadcast will be archived as one complete replay. If a replay is important, consider ending and restarting the live event before the 12-hour threshold, and verify current YouTube behavior for your channel and event format.
You can also record locally in OBS while streaming. OBS recommends MKV when an ungraceful stop could otherwise risk corrupting an entire recording; recording also requires storage, and settings other than “Same as stream” use additional computer resources.
