First enable live streaming on your channel, then connect the encoder to a stream created in YouTube Studio, preview and test the broadcast, and monitor it after launch. Keep your original files and separate local archives: YouTube may not capture a replay of a stream that runs longer than 12 hours.
What an always-on channel actually does
An always-on channel continuously broadcasts prerecorded sessions through YouTube Live. It is not the same as uploading a video for ordinary on-demand viewing: an encoder sends a live signal to YouTube, and viewers watch the live broadcast. You can use a software or hardware encoder on a computer, or a cloud playout service that sends the prerecorded material for you. YouTube’s encoder guidance includes a cloud service described as supporting 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos; check any service’s current capabilities and terms before choosing it. YouTube’s encoder guidance
Continuous playback and preserving a replay are separate jobs. Keep the original recordings regardless of your broadcast method, and plan for a local archive if you need a complete copy of the live output.
Check channel eligibility before preparing the broadcast
- Verify the channel. Follow YouTube’s channel verification process if it is not already verified.
- Check live-stream access. YouTube says the channel must have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Review the current eligibility guidance in YouTube’s live-streaming setup instructions.
- Allow time for first activation. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. Do this before the date you want the channel to begin broadcasting.
Prepare sessions and clear the rights
Before adding recordings to a continuous playlist, confirm that you have the rights needed to broadcast every element—spoken guidance, music, ambient sound, video, and still images—in the territories where viewers may watch. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects material, it may replace the broadcast image, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. A license by itself may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. See YouTube’s guidance on live-streaming restrictions and its livestream terms.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use original or properly cleared material, and retain records of permissions. YouTube’s livestream terms require broadcasters to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content on Google services, including music licensing rights. Do not assume that material is safe to stream just because it is available online or was cleared for a different use.
Build a session playlist that can run continuously
- Arrange recordings in the order you want viewers to encounter them.
- Check transitions and audio levels between files so that a loop does not introduce abrupt silence, loudness changes, or unexpected content.
- Decide what viewers should see and hear between sessions. Avoid leaving a confusing or unintended frame on screen if the encoder pauses between items.
- Keep the source files in a separate location from the encoder’s working playlist. The playlist is for broadcast; it is not a backup.
Decide whether a microphone is needed
A microphone is optional. It can be useful when recording spoken instructions, but YouTube does not require one for an encoder-based broadcast. If your sessions are already recorded, a microphone is not needed merely to stream them.
Choose a way to send the playlist to YouTube
YouTube Live requires an encoder connection, using a server URL and stream key created for the broadcast. A local encoder means a computer and its connection must remain available while the stream runs. A cloud playout service can keep the prerecorded broadcast running without relying on a home computer, but the service’s current looping behavior, file handling, monitoring, recovery, and costs should be checked individually.

Compare options on practical criteria: whether they loop prerecorded sessions continuously, whether they connect to YouTube using its encoder workflow, how much local uptime and monitoring they require, how you will preserve source and archive files, and their current price and service terms. YouTube’s documentation explains the encoder workflow and lists a cloud continuous-streaming example; it does not independently establish a provider’s uptime, price, or service quality.
Connect an encoder in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create, then Go live, to enter the Live Control Room. Create or schedule the stream and set its title, description, visibility, and other details.
- In the stream’s encoder settings, copy the YouTube stream URL (server URL) and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder or cloud playout service. The exact labels may vary by encoder.
- Treat the stream key like a password: do not share or publish it. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the new key.
- Load the recorded-session playlist in the encoder and start sending its signal. Wait for the stream to appear in the Live Control Room preview.
- Check the preview before starting the public broadcast. Confirm that picture and sound are present, the correct playlist is playing, and the stream’s visibility and metadata are right. Use the Live Control Room controls to start the stream when you are ready.
YouTube’s current connection and encoder instructions are at Set up your stream. Encoder interfaces differ, so follow the encoder’s own instructions for importing a playlist and sending its output.
Test and monitor the broadcast
- Test before launch. Check the Live Control Room preview, playback on the channel’s watch page, and audio and video quality. A short test can reveal connection or playlist problems before viewers rely on the stream.
- Leave network headroom. Test the connection and avoid using all available upload bandwidth for the stream. Other devices or activity on the same connection can affect consistency.
- Check the full playback chain. Confirm that the encoder is advancing through the playlist, that audio remains audible, and that the viewer-facing stream is still available.
- Monitor local recording if you use one. Verify that the archive file exists and continues to grow. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup; see YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Monitoring matters after launch as well as during the initial test. A stream that appears connected in the encoder may still have a viewer-facing playback, sound, or rights issue.

Protect the replay and source files
YouTube automatically archives live streams shorter than 12 hours. For a stream longer than 12 hours, YouTube warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” The archive behavior and 12-hour guidance are described in YouTube’s archive live streams help page; the page does not state a publication year.
Do not rely on one uninterrupted always-on stream as the only copy of your sessions or as a guaranteed complete YouTube replay. Keep the original recordings, and use a separate local recording or archive process if you need a full copy of what was broadcast. Check that local files are actually being saved and remain readable.

Troubleshooting common problems
The channel cannot start a live stream
Check that the channel is verified and has no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If live streaming was just enabled for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours. Review the eligibility steps in YouTube’s live-streaming setup instructions.

YouTube does not receive the encoder signal
Recheck that the stream URL and stream key in the encoder match the stream created in YouTube Studio. Confirm that the encoder is sending its output, then look for the signal in the Live Control Room. If the key was exposed or changed, update the encoder with the current key.
The preview is missing audio or shows the wrong material
Check the playlist selection and the encoder’s audio and video inputs, then inspect the preview again before starting the public broadcast. If the problem appears only after a playlist transition, check the affected recordings and their transitions.
The connection or playback is unstable
Test the network and leave upload-bandwidth headroom. Check for competing network use, then confirm whether the encoder continues sending and whether viewers can still load the watch page. For a local setup, the computer and network must remain available throughout the broadcast.

The stream is interrupted after a rights match
Review the affected material and your rights for the intended broadcast territories. YouTube may interrupt a live stream when it detects third-party content; if a rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID, holding a license may not by itself prevent an interruption. Consult YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions guidance and resolve the rights issue before restarting.
The YouTube replay is incomplete or missing
Check the broadcast duration. YouTube’s automatic archive applies to streams shorter than 12 hours; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use your source files or local archive rather than treating the YouTube replay as the only backup. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
