Test the destination channel’s setup on that channel before you depend on it for a 24/7 YouTube playlist. Create a scheduled encoder stream, connect it with that channel’s stream URL and key, then check the Live Control Room preview, playback, playlist continuity, and stream-health messages. YouTube documents how to test a live stream and schedule an encoder stream, but its published guidance does not describe a special 24/7 playlist migration or promise that a schedule transfers between channels.
What to test before switching channels
A channel switch changes the destination for your broadcast. Treat the new channel as a separate setup: verify its scheduled event, encoder connection, audience access, and playlist behavior rather than assuming settings or playback state will carry over.
- Destination: Confirm you are working in the intended YouTube channel and event.
- Connection: Use the stream URL and stream key associated with the destination stream.
- Playback: Check the incoming preview, sound, image, and playlist order and continuity.
- Audience access: Verify the watch page and mobile playback for the viewers you intend to reach.
- Health and fallback: Watch for stream-health notices and keep the existing setup available until the new one has passed rehearsal.
YouTube recommends trying a test live stream and checking the Live Control Room preview before starting the public event. Its encoder guidance also recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the real stream and monitoring stream health. Run a rehearsal on the destination channel
- Open YouTube Studio > Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room on the destination channel. Create or schedule an encoder stream for the test. YouTube’s scheduled-stream workflow lets you create a new stream or reuse settings; verify that the event belongs to the channel you intend to switch to. Schedule a live stream
- Set the encoder to the destination stream URL and key. Copy the credentials shown for that scheduled stream into the encoder you use for the playlist. A stream key is a credential: do not include it in a public post, screenshot, or shared checklist. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the replacement. - Choose visibility for the rehearsal. YouTube offers public, private, and unlisted visibility. Use private or unlisted if you do not want the test publicly discoverable; choose based on who should be able to find or view it. - Allow time for the encoder check. YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours before an event and starting them at least 15 minutes before its scheduled start. These are planning recommendations, not guarantees of connection or readiness. Start early enough to inspect the incoming preview before you rely on the new setup. - Wait for the Live Control Room preview, then inspect the stream. Check that the expected picture and audio arrive, the playlist begins with the intended item, and transitions or repeats behave as intended. Use content with sound and movement similar to the actual stream. Monitor the stream-health messages while it runs. - Check viewing from the audience side. Open the watch page with an account or device appropriate to the chosen privacy setting, confirm it loads for the intended viewers, and test playback on a phone. YouTube specifically recommends checking that the event is reachable from channel and watch pages and on mobile, as well as monitoring audio and video quality. YouTube live streaming tips – Computer
- Make the switch only after the destination setup works. Keep the old setup available until the new channel’s connection and playback have been checked. This rollback precaution is operational advice, not a YouTube requirement.
What does—and does not—move between channels
YouTube’s published help pages explain scheduled encoder streams, stream keys, testing, privacy, and Live Redirect. They do not provide a dedicated procedure for transferring a 24/7 playlist schedule between channels or confirm that a schedule, stream key, playlist state, or audience transfers automatically. Set up and test the destination independently instead of relying on an assumed transfer.

Live Redirect is an audience handoff feature: subject to eligibility and destination permissions, it can send viewers to a Premiere or another channel’s live stream after the current stream ends. YouTube does not describe it as a way to migrate a playlist schedule or copy channel settings. Use Live Redirect
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement describes archive behavior; it does not establish a maximum stream duration or show that a 24/7 schedule cannot run. Connect your encoder and go live
