You can livestream prerecorded video to YouTube without leaving a local PC running, but cloud storage alone will not do it. A cloud service or cloud-hosted encoder must read the video, package it as a live feed, and send it to YouTube. The simplest route is a managed service; a self-managed cloud encoder gives you more control but requires you to build and operate the playback and publishing workflow.
What a cloud-storage livestream relay needs
A video file in a bucket, drive, or CDN is not a livestream. Stored video on demand (VOD) and live encoding are separate jobs: something must fetch or access the file, play or loop it, encode or package the output as a live feed, and transmit it to YouTube. AWS’s documentation distinguishes stored VOD assets from live encoding and notes that an encoder is needed to package video for distribution (AWS CloudFront live streaming documentation).
There are three practical architectures:
- Managed cloud service: the provider handles media access, playback, scheduling, and sending the feed. YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded livestreams. Gyre says its files are stored in Gyre Storage and streams originate from its servers, rather than a user’s computer or home connection; that is the vendor’s description, not independent testing (YouTube encoder guide; Gyre’s description).
- Self-managed cloud encoder: you run a process in cloud compute that can retrieve the media, loop or schedule it, encode or package it, and publish to YouTube. You must build or configure the playback, credentials, monitoring, and recovery.
- Dedicated hardware encoder: AJA HELO Plus has a PlayToStream function that YouTube describes as scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. It is a physical encoder, not a cloud-storage relay; it still requires hardware and a local network (YouTube encoder guide).

Set up the YouTube side first
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the day you need to start (YouTube encoder guide).
- Create or schedule a broadcast. In Live Control Room, use the Stream or Manage tab. Scheduling creates a planned event and a shareable watch page. Choose visibility deliberately: a public stream is discoverable, while other visibility settings limit who can view it.
- Locate the stream destination and key. Use the server URL and stream key shown for that broadcast in Live Control Room. An encoder may offer YouTube account authorization instead; if it does, follow its current authorization flow. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not paste it into public notes, screenshots, or code repositories.
Choose and configure the relay method
Managed cloud service
Choose a service that explicitly supports YouTube prerecorded livestreaming. Confirm that it can access the files you intend to use and that it supports your required scheduling or looping behavior. YouTube lists Gyre for 24/7 prerecorded streams, and Gyre describes a workflow using its storage and servers. Check the provider’s current file limits, formats, storage and retention, restart controls, monitoring, account authorization, duration limits, price, and availability before committing; these details are not established by the cited YouTube listing or Gyre description.

Self-managed cloud encoder
Provision a cloud compute process that can access the media and keep the publishing connection open. Configure a player or scheduler to read the source files and loop or sequence them, then configure an encoder or streaming application to send the output to the exact YouTube destination shown in Live Control Room. Storage and a CDN alone are not enough: they deliver files, but do not by themselves create and publish a live feed.
For a secure connection, Google describes RTMPS as RTMP over SSL and specifies port 443. Use the valid endpoint and path provided for your broadcast; do not copy an endpoint or key from an unrelated example (Google RTMPS ingestion guide).

Hardware alternative
If you want a physical device instead of a cloud process, YouTube’s encoder guide identifies AJA HELO Plus PlayToStream for scheduled prerecorded streams. This avoids keeping a PC on, but it is not a remote cloud relay: the device itself, its media, and network connection must be available for the stream.
Start the stream and verify it
- Start playback and publishing in the cloud service or encoder, using the scheduled event’s destination details.
- Open the matching broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room and wait for the encoder preview to appear.
- For a scheduled encoder stream, click Go live in Live Control Room once the preview is ready, as YouTube’s workflow directs.
- Check stream health before promoting the watch page or leaving the relay unattended. Confirm that video and audio are arriving and that the broadcast is on the intended event.
- When finished, stop the encoder’s outgoing feed and end the stream in Live Control Room as applicable. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived (YouTube encoder guide).

Copyright, reused content, and channel health
A technically successful relay does not establish that you have the right to stream the video or that a channel will qualify for monetization. Use material you own or are licensed to broadcast, including music and any third-party footage. Repeatedly streaming prerecorded material does not itself establish compliance with YouTube’s copyright or monetization rules; check YouTube’s current policies for your channel and content before scheduling a long-running broadcast. Common problems and fixes
- No live option in Studio: live streaming may not be enabled yet. Start activation through YouTube Studio → Create → Go Live and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Encoder connects but YouTube shows no preview: verify that you are publishing to the server URL and stream key for the correct broadcast, and check that the cloud process is actually reading and sending the media.
- A file is stored, but nothing streams: storage is not an encoder. Add a playback and live-publishing process or use a managed service that explicitly handles both.
- The stream stops after a connection loss: inspect the cloud process or provider’s recovery controls and YouTube stream health. A self-managed setup needs its own restart and monitoring plan; do not assume storage or CDN delivery will restart a live encoder.
- The wrong event or visibility is used: check the selected broadcast in Live Control Room and verify its visibility before sharing the watch page.
- The key may have been exposed: treat it as a credential. Replace or reset it through the YouTube live-stream settings and update the encoder that uses it.
Cost and operating effort
A self-managed setup can involve cloud compute, storage, data transfer, encoding capacity, and engineering time; the total depends on the provider and workload, so there is no single cost figure to apply. Hardware shifts cost toward buying and maintaining a device. Managed services bundle more of the playback and relay operation, but compare their current terms and limits rather than assuming storage integrations or service availability.
