If a video in CameraFi Live stops when your Android screen turns off, first find out whether the video pauses, CameraFi goes into the background, or the live broadcast itself ends. Test screen timeout and manual locking separately, then repeat while the phone is charging. These checks can point to Android power management, but there is no documented setting that guarantees CameraFi playback will continue after the screen locks.
First identify what is stopping
CameraFi Live supports video files as a broadcast source, but its beginner guide does not promise that a video source keeps playing after Android locks the display. The symptom can describe several different outcomes, and they need not have the same cause.
- The video pauses: CameraFi may still be open, but playback stops when the display turns off.
- CameraFi closes or is backgrounded: The app may be restricted while it is not visible.
- The outgoing stream ends or drops: The video may continue locally, while broadcasting or the network connection fails.
Watch for the exact point of failure during each test below. Do not assume a stopped broadcast means the source video itself paused.
Test timeout, lock, charging, and network
- Start with CameraFi visible. Use the same video source and confirm that playback and broadcasting work while the app is on screen.
- Test display timeout. Temporarily set a longer screen timeout in Android display settings. Wait for the screen to turn off on its own and note whether the video, app, or broadcast stops.
- Test manual locking separately. Repeat the setup, then press the power button to lock the phone. Record whether the result differs from timeout. These are diagnostic comparisons, not a CameraFi-approved test protocol.
- Repeat while charging and on a stable network. Keep the source and other conditions the same. If it works while charging but not unplugged, power management is worth investigating; that result alone does not prove the cause.
Check Android battery and background settings
If the interruption happens only after the phone locks, look in Android settings for CameraFi’s battery, background-use, or app-activity controls. The path and labels vary by manufacturer and Android version. If your phone offers a control to allow unrestricted battery use or background activity for CameraFi, try it as a diagnostic and repeat the same test.

This is not a guaranteed fix. Android’s Doze documentation says a device may enter Doze when it is unplugged, stationary, and screen-off; Doze restricts network access and defers CPU and network work. Connecting a charger or waking the screen exits Doze according to Android. That makes the charging comparison useful, but does not establish Doze as the cause of any particular CameraFi interruption.
Battery settings also cannot necessarily override Android’s service and permission rules. Android places limits on starting foreground services from the background, and camera or microphone use has additional while-in-use restrictions. See Android’s foreground-service restrictions. CameraFi’s public materials do not describe how its current build handles this specific locked-screen scenario, so do not assume that changing one battery option can force it to continue.

Send CameraFi support details they can use
If the controlled tests do not isolate a setting, contact CameraFi support with a concise record of what happened. Include:
- CameraFi Live version and Android version.
- Phone make and model.
- Whether the source was a video file, camera, USB camera, or another source.
- Whether the video paused, the app closed, the network stream dropped, or the broadcast ended.
- Whether it failed on timeout, manual lock, or both—and whether charging changed the result.
- Network type and whether the connection was stable during the test.
CameraFi’s December 2024 beginner guide describes available source types and broadcast workflow, but not a guaranteed screen-off playback fix. Its FAQ and screen-streaming tutorial cover other controls and workflows, not a current universal solution to this symptom. The Google Play CameraFi Live listing says video files can be added during live streaming; it likewise does not guarantee background playback.
