Short answer: the official Cesbo Astra documentation reviewed does not establish that Astra can schedule prerecorded files as a playlist and send them directly to YouTube Live. Astra’s HTTP Play feature publishes Astra channels for client playback; it is not documented as a timed video rundown or YouTube encoder output. You can schedule a YouTube Live event and feed it from a compatible encoder, but treat an Astra-to-encoder connection as conditional until you confirm support for your Astra version and the encoder’s accepted input.
First, clarify what “premiere-style” means
A scheduled YouTube Live broadcast with prerecorded material is still a live event: an encoder sends the video feed, and you start the broadcast from YouTube Live Control Room. That differs from a YouTube Premiere, which is a scheduled viewing of a video rather than an encoder-fed live broadcast. The official workflow described here is for a scheduled live broadcast, not for automating a YouTube Premiere.
YouTube distinguishes the event viewers watch from the delivery configuration used to send audio and video. Its API guide says, “A broadcast represents an event that can be watched on YouTube as it happens.” A stream contains the settings used to deliver the feed, and can be reused for broadcasts at different times. What Astra HTTP Play does—and does not establish
Astra documents HTTP Play as a way to make enabled Astra channels available to clients over HTTP MPEG-TS or HLS. Its playlist can be generated as M3U8 or XSPF, with options such as playlist naming, channel groups, logos, and EPG metadata. That is a channel list for compatible players or clients; it is not evidence of a scheduled sequence of uploaded files or a direct push to YouTube Live.

The official Astra pages reviewed do not verify a built-in prerecorded playlist scheduler or an Astra-to-YouTube output workflow. If your goal is to feed Astra output into another encoder, first verify that the encoder accepts the specific Astra output protocol and can play the desired sequence continuously. Do not assume that an M3U8 playlist URL can be entered as a YouTube stream source.
Astra’s documentation also says HTTP Play is disabled by default. It warns that enabling HLS turns off on-demand stream starts and uses about 4 MB of RAM per 1 Mbit. Schedule and start the YouTube Live event
- Enable live streaming in advance. YouTube says first-time live streaming activation may take up to 24 hours. Confirm that the channel can go live before you announce an event.
- Create the event. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live, select Manage, then choose Schedule Stream. Create a new event or reuse prior settings. Scheduling provides a watch URL and lets viewers set reminders.
- Configure a compatible encoder or playout system. Enter the server URL and stream key supplied for the YouTube event. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your event.
- Start sending the prerecorded program. Start the encoder or playout system and wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room preview. Check picture and sound, then select Go live in YouTube Studio.
- End the event deliberately. End the broadcast in Live Control Room and stop sending encoder content. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived.

The same guide names the AJA HELO Plus and describes its PlayToStream feature for scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. It does not document a connection from that device to Astra, so consider it only as a separate hardware playout option.
If you want Astra in the signal chain
- Confirm your intended source. Establish whether you are streaming an Astra channel, a file playlist, or a channel assembled elsewhere. HTTP Play documents access to enabled channels, not a file-based rundown.
- Check the handoff protocol. Match the actual Astra output (such as HTTP MPEG-TS or HLS) to an input explicitly supported by the downstream encoder. Ask the relevant vendors or consult documentation matching your installed versions if the compatibility is unclear.
- Validate continuous playout before scheduling. Run the complete program through the proposed chain and check that it advances between items, maintains audio/video, and does not stop when a source changes. The official Astra documentation reviewed does not establish these behaviors for a YouTube playlist workflow.
- Protect access. Astra says HTTP Play authentication is disabled by default. Enable access authorization or restrict access with firewall rules before exposing an endpoint. Never show stream keys or private playlist credentials in screenshots or public instructions.
